Raj recovered quickly after secretly using recovery medicine from the System.
The next day, he walked out of the infirmary, surprising Nurse Joy.
As soon as he stepped outside and breathed fresh air free from disinfectant smell, Raj stretched his body.
At the same time, he laughed loudly.
"Hahaha, I'm going to become the strongest Trainer in the world."
"Idiot."
A cold female voice suddenly interrupted him like a splash of cold water.
"Who are you?" Raj asked irritably as he turned around.
Anyone would be annoyed if their excitement was interrupted like that.
Then he saw her clearly.
A woman with an expressionless face stood there, staring at him calmly.
She looked cold and distant.
Raj frowned slightly.
So this is Sabrina.
"You ignorant brat are truly disgusting," Sabrina said coldly.
Raj immediately realized something.
Sabrina was a powerful Psychic.
She could read thoughts.
He quickly stabilized his emotions and avoided thinking anything unnecessary.
"Psychic power is far beyond what you imagine, League Trainer," Sabrina said mockingly.
Raj forced an awkward smile.
"It was just a joke."
Psychics had always been respected in this world.
Not only because of their abilities, but also because of their mental discipline.
And Sabrina's Psychic Gym had earned its reputation entirely through strength.
"You. Come with me," Sabrina said calmly.
Before Raj could react, the surroundings suddenly changed.
In the next instant, he had already been teleported inside the Gym.
Raj's expression became serious.
He knew Sabrina was strong, but teleporting another person so easily was far beyond what he expected.
How powerful was she really?
And yet she was only a Gym Leader.
Did that even make sense?
"Do you think Gym Leaders are weak?" Sabrina said calmly.
"They deliberately limit their strength when facing new Trainers. This allows beginners to collect badges gradually. It is an unwritten rule of the Pokémon League. The closer a Gym is to a beginner town, the more the Gym Leader must restrain their strength."
Sabrina glanced at Raj.
Clearly she had already read his doubts.
"Why did you bring me here?" Raj asked.
"There is a reason," Sabrina replied calmly.
"I heard from certain people that you are one of the most talented new Trainers this year. They even suggested I train you."
"Certain people?" Raj narrowed his eyes. "Aren't you a Gym Leader under the League?"
Sabrina suddenly held a strange doll in her hand.
"Since you have someone like Professor Oak supporting you, you also have the potential to walk both paths like me."
"I don't understand what you're talking about," Raj replied impatiently.
Sabrina raised her eyebrow slightly.
"Don't pretend in front of me. You can't hide anything from my Psychic power."
Raj felt extremely uncomfortable.
Being watched like this was irritating.
"To be honest, my identity is not as simple as a Gym Leader," Sabrina continued.
"The higher-ups originally planned to give you the badge directly. But I don't believe you are as capable as they claim."
She stood up.
"The higher-ups you mentioned… are you talking about my father?" Raj asked.
"You mean Kenji? Yes. Naturally."
A faint trace of mockery flashed through Sabrina's eyes.
Raj noticed it immediately.
She was lying.
"You also want to participate in the Pokémon League, right?" Sabrina said calmly. "Then defeat me first. One-on-one battle. If you win, the badge is yours."
"Fine. Let's do it," Raj replied without hesitation.
"Kadabra, come out."
Sabrina released her Pokémon.
"Kadabra, Psychic-type Pokémon. Evolves from Abra. Kadabra emits special alpha waves that can cause headaches and strange phenomena nearby. It enhances its Psychic power by focusing on its spoon.
Combat Power: 1300.
Known moves: Teleport, Psybeam, Disable, Psychic, Recover, Confusion, Reflect."
As expected. Very strong.
But Haunter has a type advantage.
"Haunter, let her see your strength. Dark Pulse."
Haunter immediately launched Dark Pulse.
The battlefield filled with dark energy.
Kadabra remained calm.
Just before the attack landed, it disappeared using Teleport and reappeared elsewhere.
Teleport without command input.
So they are communicating mentally.
That makes this difficult.
Kadabra's eyes suddenly glowed blue.
Confusion activated.
Haunter was thrown backward instantly.
"Damn it. Instant Psychic attacks are hard to react to," Raj muttered.
"Haunter, use Double Team. Spread poison gas across the battlefield."
Multiple Haunter illusions appeared.
Purple poison mist spread across the field.
Kadabra teleported again.
This time it appeared inside the poison field and became poisoned.
"You brat are quite cunning," Sabrina said coldly.
Kadabra closed its eyes.
Yellow light surrounded its body.
Recover activated.
"So annoying," Raj muttered.
Suddenly Kadabra teleported behind Haunter again.
Confusion activated once more.
"This is what I was waiting for," Raj said immediately.
"Haunter, use Night Shade."
Dark energy struck directly.
"Finish it. Full-power Dark Pulse."
The attack landed cleanly.
Kadabra was knocked out of the battlefield.
It lost the ability to battle.
Sabrina looked slightly surprised.
"You're stronger than I expected."
She tossed a badge toward Raj.
"I originally planned to make you my subordinate if you lost. But it seems the higher-ups made the correct decision."
"Take the badge. Your friend Ash challenged the Gym this morning and was completely defeated."
Before Raj could respond, Sabrina teleported him outside the Gym.
