"Go to bed, Deborah," he dully said after that and my eyes snapped open in confusion.
"If forming an alliance with him is so important then let me go in her stead, after all I-"
"You just recently got out of marriage and-" I didn't let him finish just how he didn't let me finish.
"And when lords from neighboring towns hear of this, they will come for my hand in marriage, regardless of that. So wouldn't it be better for me to be with someone my father is fond of?" I laid my case and he sighed.
"Ruby already had her eyes on him, Deborah. Don't take what belongs to her or you will start a fight," he warned me.
"She will understand that I am doing this for her safety," I said and he massaged his nose bridge and closed his eyes briefly to think.
When his hand fell to his side and he opened his tired eyes to look at me, his words were, "We will discuss this tomorrow with Ruby. Now, go to bed."
I hesitated as I looked at him while breathing softly.
