Chapter 28 - Being Human -> Heights

Love had been spying on the snake for a long time, in fact she used the whole of the day before to do that and so far so good she had not found a path to escape, a hidden place to place a trap or a weakness in the scales of the snake she could exploit, she was doomed if she couldn't fight the snake.

She wondered how Willow had fought such a fearsome enemy or whether the snake had migrated into that place after Willow had left, Love also thought about passing another path, but she had had too many encounters with dangerous things and enemies that she would take her chance with an enemy she knew than an enemy she didn't know.

Moreover, it wasn't like her new companion was such a terrible host, there were some perks to having such a fearsome enemy as a bodyguard, well first of all, there was no enemy that shared that particular area with the long fanged snake, second, the snake seemed to like nature very much or maybe it liked sleeping alot or whatever monsters did instead of sleeping because most of the time she watched the snake its bubbly eyes were always closed and the area was left with plants thriving.

She had contemplated sneaking out if the area during one of this periods but before she could step into the area the snake slept, she heard its serpentine scales rattle around on the floor and a loud hissing sound, so she quickly glanced at a hole in the bushes to see what was going on. It seemed a large green monster frog had the same idea she had, but the frog had been unfortunate to be around the snake when it woke up, the snake formed a large circle around the frog slowly tightening up the circle, little by little until the sharp bone structure contained at the middle of the snake pierced the frog ever so effortlessly killing it, the snake then raised up its head to swallow up the frog like it was a light snack.

Love had given up hope since witnessing what had happened to the frog, after remembering this unfortunate incident it seemed Love lost all her energy and desire to fight as she slumped on the ground, after eating the last patch of berries she saw at these side of the woods, she had long exhausted the food she was carrying in her leather bag, she couldn't help but hope that something would happen to the snake that would enable her to escape this place safely as she lay on the floor, unable to use any energy to sustain her eyes she slept off.

The next day came and Love returned to assume her position in watching the snake despite looking frail, skinny and pale, afternoon came and she was compelled to start looking for food due to her grumbling stomach and aching muscles, she searched for fruits, tubers, grains and so on but the land was only surrounded with trees, thick leaves and wildflowers.

Unknowingly, Love glanced at the trees watching their thick barks, long branches, and their vast coverage of the soil before looking down to find some meal, enlightened Love looked back at the trees and said:

"That might work..."

Overjoyed, Love started formulating a plan on her head while determining her odds of success, she had not encountered the snake battling the creatures of the trees and the snake seemed to like napping on the soft cool land so it could be her shot out of here, desperate for the plan to work, Love threw a rope made with tree vines at a branch and started climbing, she then moved from tree to tree sometimes swinging with the rope or close branches, leaping from trunk to trunk while gripping the other firmly, or climbing vast trunks to branches that were far away from the snake.

She also took care to watch out for any creeping creature that had made its home in the trees and taking the scenic route far away from the trees that were near the snake, after overcoming hardships in climbing, Love jumped down to the soft embrace of earth. She smiled softly and proceeded to resume her journey while looking for food but before she could take a step, she felt a strong shiver in her spine, her hunter's instinct was stuck at overdrive, she slowly turned her head to her back while shivering and what she saw made her speechless.

It seemed the snake had used it's tail to push forward at her with pin point precision and was slithering faster than ever to attack her, Love took a step forward and started running for her life, she took extra care to avoid suspicious places, rocks, mud while moving at full speed but the snake was still catching up fast, loudly hissing and slithering despite the sharp bones in the middle of its body were scratching the land and were facing obstacles the snake still moved in a comfortable manner as if it was swimming on land.

Love continued to run but had to stop abruptly because there was a waterfall up ahead, Love quickly thought of a plan she could use to escape the fearsome snake, given the speed the snake was using to charge at her it wouldn't be able to stop in time to escape to the tip of the rocky bank, leaving the remaining to gravity, the plunge would send shockwaves to the ground far far away from where Love had stationed herself.

An wicked grin soon appeared on the mouth of Love as she assumed formation at the riverbank luring the enraged snake, the snake soon approached Love in all its terrifying glory, Love took a side step while springing out of the path as fast as she could to survive the fierce tail that was coming behind her, the snake was successfully tricked and it trickled down into the water below but somehow its tail was clutching a pale woman body, Love smiled grimly when she saw the irony of her life, she had successfully tricked the snake into a trap, while the snake had trapped her with its fearsome tail.

Love believed she would die as the decent was so far below so she held her breath and closed her eyes preparing for her doom.
