Chapter 9: Terminator T-800, Has Arrived!
May 12th, 12:01 AM.
Marcus was instructing Williams to be careful. Although Marcus had laid a tight net to prevent the Terminator T-800 from finding the real Sarah Connor, what if something unexpected happened?
The real world doesn't follow logic; anything unscientific can happen.
For example, winning the lottery is purely a matter of luck.
What logic is there in winning the lottery?
Marcus was also worried about unforeseen events. What if the Terminator T-800 found an authentic, unaltered phone book?
What if all of Marcus's arrangements failed?
If such a situation did occur, Williams would be the last line of defense.
Of course, this defense was only to protect Sarah Connor and buy time.
Although the Terminator T-800 was somewhat limited in its programming and had basic intelligence, its combat power was truly formidable!
In The Terminator, the protagonist, Kyle Reese, repeatedly hit the Terminator T-800 at close range with a shotgun. While he did knock the T-800 back and even send it flying, did it cause any actual damage?
It probably only damaged the T-800's living tissue covering.
After ending his call with Williams, Marcus contacted the LAPD's dispatch center supervisor. After waiting for the call to be answered, the other end spoke first.
"This is Dispatch, Officer Martinez speaking."
"Hello, Officer Martinez, this is FBI Special Agent Marcus Foster. Are you on duty tonight?" Marcus inquired.
Martinez replied, "Hello, Agent Foster, I am on duty today. I haven't received the specific alert you described."
Given the special circumstances of time travel, Marcus had described the time travel situation to the LAPD's dispatch center. Once they received the corresponding alert, they would immediately notify Marcus.
"Okay, thank you, Officer Martinez." Marcus and Martinez chatted for a few more minutes before hanging up.
Time ticked by, and it was past 2 a.m. Marcus was still awake. He'd already drunk a strong coffee. Today was the most crucial day. If the Terminator T-800 had traveled through time, today was the best, and arguably the only, opportunity to eliminate it.
What if the Terminator T-800 escaped and then found a chance to kill Sarah Connor?
Around 2:15 a.m., Marcus's home phone rang. He immediately picked it up. "This is Foster."
Martinez's voice came through. "Agent Foster, we received the report you described. A sanitation worker just called to say he encountered something unusual at the Griffith Observatory area."
"Just as I thought!" Marcus was certain. The Terminator T-800 had indeed traveled through time!
Marcus immediately responded, "Immediately mobilize surrounding units to cordon off a five-block radius, bring K-9 units if possible, and check the driver's licenses and social security information of every person to confirm their identity."
Marcus added, "If K-9 units start alerting, immediately go on high alert. The suspect is extremely dangerous. If the suspect ignores warnings, you are authorized to open fire. A special reminder: the suspect is a special case; ordinary firearms cannot neutralize him. Try to delay him as much as possible."
"This..." Martinez hesitated.
"I will take full responsibility for the consequences!" Marcus replied.
"Roger." Martinez responded, then issued the order via the LAPD's police radio.
Marcus picked up the FBI's walkie-talkie, "Jackson, Rodriguez, the target has appeared, high alert!"
"Number One, copy!" Jackson responded.
"Number Two, copy." Rodriguez also responded.
"Williams, go on high alert." Marcus instructed.
"Number Three, copy." Williams responded.
At the Griffith Observatory area.
Just like in the original story, the Terminator T-800, who closely resembled Arnold Schwarzenegger, encountered three punks enjoying the night view of Los Angeles. He neutralized one of them and successfully obtained clothing.
However, unlike the original story, Terminator T-800 ran into trouble!
A five-block radius around Griffith Observatory was blocked off, and the LAPD deployed a large number of officers to carry out the orders given by Marcus.
After instructing the members of the special operations team, Marcus immediately contacted the emergency contact number of the FBI's Los Angeles field office. Upon connection, he introduced himself.
"This is Special Agent Marcus Foster, authentication code: alpha, foxtrot, oscar, sierra, tango, echo, romeo, zero, nine, one, nine," Marcus stated his authentication information, waiting for verification.
"Hello, Special Agent Foster, how can I help you?" the operator asked.
"Immediately mobilize all available field personnel, order them to be fully armed and participate in the operation as soon as possible. The target location is Griffith Observatory area. Again, this is an emergency. This is not a drill; this is an emergency." Marcus reiterated that it was an emergency.
The operator responded, "Are you sure? Special Agent Foster, please confirm the emergency status."
"I'm sure. Execute the order immediately. LAPD has arrived on the scene, but I need more support," Marcus reminded.
"Roger, execute the order immediately." The operator hung up the phone.
Marcus grabbed the FBI Los Angeles field office radio and headed out, fully armed himself, towards Griffith Observatory.
Now that the Terminator T-800 had appeared, how could Marcus let it go so easily?
No way!
...
Griffith Observatory area.
The Terminator T-800 stood at the overlook, its basic processing system analyzing the current situation. It also spotted the flashing police lights below.
...
"Large number of law enforcement officers detected, their motives uncertain, analyzing possible solutions…"
"Disguised escape"
"Choose a suitable location to hide"
"Neutralize all law enforcement officers and leave"
"Steal a vehicle and escape"
…
The Terminator T-800's internal processing system was rapidly analyzing the situation and making its final decision: to attempt a disguised vehicle escape.
At the base of the observatory area, the LAPD had cordoned off a five-block radius. More and more patrol cars arrived at the scene, setting up temporary checkpoints where all vehicles and personnel were to be inspected.
Marcus had already reached an agreement with the LAPD through the FBI's Los Angeles field office; once Marcus confirmed, the LAPD would fully support his operations.
"LAPD, pull over for inspection!" An LAPD officer, right hand on his weapon, directed a car to pull over for inspection.
Because of Marcus, the LAPD was taking this operation very seriously; every officer had been notified by radio that the suspect was extremely dangerous.
"Lower your windows and put your hands where I can see them," the LAPD officer commanded.
A nearby K-9 unit suddenly started barking aggressively, and even though the handler pulled back on the leash, the dog tried to lunge forward.
The officer preparing to conduct the inspection calmly took a few steps back, then yelled, "Suspect spotted!"
