060 The Red Queen's True Origins
Marcus had made a mistake!
He originally thought that awakening and saving Alicia would solve the T-virus problem.
However, Alicia couldn't solve it either.
Thinking about it more deeply, it made sense. Alicia had been present in the meetings when Dr. Isaacs was formulating his plan to destroy the world. If Alicia could truly oppose Dr. Isaacs, she would have stopped him during those meetings.
However, Marcus had an idea.
Following Marcus's instructions, Red Queen listed the key Umbrella Corporation researchers in Raccoon City.
Marcus checked the information on the tablet and scanned through the names. He then asked, "Are all these researchers properly accounted for?"
"Yes, all have been properly secured," Red Queen replied.
Marcus looked at Alicia and asked, "Alicia, do you remember what happened when you were young?"
"When I was young..." Alicia's expression shifted slightly. She thought Marcus was alluding to the fact that Dr. Isaacs had killed her father.
Marcus continued, "Among our company's key researchers in Raccoon City, there's a special case. He bears a remarkable resemblance to your father, and his daughter looks remarkably like you."
"What?" Alicia asked, puzzled.
"Red Queen, display Dr. Charles Ashford's information, and also display his daughter Angela Ashford's information," Marcus instructed.
"Yes, sir." Red Queen displayed the corresponding files.
Charles Ashford is a senior researcher at Umbrella Corporation, specializing in T-virus research. He suffers from muscular dystrophy and is currently confined to a wheelchair. His daughter, Angela Ashford, also inherited the muscular dystrophy condition.
To treat his daughter Angela's illness, Charles conducted extensive research on the T-virus, modifying it to adapt to Angela's genetic profile and alleviate her muscular dystrophy symptoms.
This was incredibly advanced work!
Alicia finished reading Charles and Angela's files, a calculating gleam in her eyes. "Are you planning to have Dr. Charles research the anti-T-virus?"
Marcus nodded. "Based on Dr. Charles's demonstrated capabilities, I believe he's fully qualified to undertake the anti-T-virus research project."
Red Queen displayed a series of data, confirming Marcus's assessment. "Dr. Charles's internal evaluation is exceptionally high. During the T-virus outbreak in Raccoon City, Dr. Charles was among our first priority assets for evacuation."
"Red Queen, could you make a copy of all the relevant research data for the anti-T-virus project?" Marcus asked.
"If it's Mr. Foster's order, my answer is no. If it's Alicia's order, my answer is yes," Red Queen replied.
Marcus was speechless.
Alicia interjected, "Then make a copy of all the anti-T-virus project data and transfer it to Mr. Foster."
"As you wish, Alicia," Red Queen replied.
Alicia looked apologetically at Marcus. "I'm sorry, Mr. Foster. Dr. Isaacs created the Red Queen, and she cannot override the protocols he established."
"Wait, what?" Marcus was stunned.
The Red Queen was actually created by Dr. Isaacs?
What was going on here!
If the Red Queen was created by Dr. Isaacs, how had Alicia survived all these years?
Dr. Isaacs had dared to kill Dr. Marcus back then—why wouldn't he kill Alicia?
Don't suggest it's because Alicia was a child and Dr. Isaacs couldn't bring himself to harm her. Dr. Isaacs was a madman who planned to exterminate humanity—what wouldn't he do?
Alicia noticed Marcus's confusion, hesitated briefly, then explained, "Mr. Foster, there's something you should know."
"If you're referring to Dr. Isaacs and your father, I've heard some of the rumors," Marcus admitted.
Alicia pressed on, "I assume you're wondering why Dr. Isaacs didn't seize complete control of Umbrella Corporation, right?"
"I only know that in the Red Queen's core programming, your safety has priority over all of humanity," Marcus said. "If the Red Queen was created by Dr. Isaacs, why would he program such a restriction?"
"Because the Red Queen's core architecture originates from the White Queen," Alicia explained.
"My father created the White Queen to keep me company, protect me, and manage the entire Umbrella Corporation," Alicia elaborated.
The artificial intelligence system created by Dr. Marcus was actually the White Queen!
But thinking about it, nothing seemed impossible.
From the original Resident Evil films, it was clear that the White Queen's visual interface appeared as a gentle, angelic figure. Her personality matrix was warm, friendly, and compassionate.
According to Alicia, the White Queen was the AI system created by Dr. Marcus—that made perfect sense!
The Red Queen was different!
The Red Queen's personality matrix was more sinister, like a malevolent child.
"But..." Marcus hesitated, not wanting to be too direct.
"As I just said, the Red Queen's core architecture originates from the White Queen. Dr. Isaacs is highly proficient in biotechnology, but relatively weak in artificial intelligence systems," Alicia explained.
"My father originally planned to deploy the White Queen throughout the entire Umbrella Corporation, but Dr. Isaacs, in order to prevent this, ultimately created the Red Queen based on the White Queen's core programming. Although Dr. Isaacs added numerous restrictions to the Red Queen, the fundamental protocols remain the White Queen's original directives, so while the Red Queen operates throughout the entire Umbrella Corporation, she still protects me." Alicia revealed a previously unknown secret.
"I see!" Marcus nodded in understanding.
No wonder in Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, even though the Red Queen had chosen to help Alice and even betrayed both Umbrella Corporation and Dr. Isaacs, Dr. Isaacs could still override the Red Queen and force her to relinquish all her authority.
"Mr. Foster, I have contacted Dr. Charles and transmitted the relevant anti-T-virus project data. Dr. Charles has accepted the assignment to research the anti-T-virus," Red Queen reported to Marcus.
Marcus nodded slightly, acknowledging the message. "By the way, Alicia, now that you've recovered, what are your plans regarding Project Alice?"
Project Alice is the Alicia cloning project...

Project Alice was a project initiated by Dr. Marcus to screen Alicia for the perfect T-virus compatibility.
However, after Dr. Isaacs took over Project Alice, it was weaponized to cultivate powerful, controllable bioweapons.
Alicia was naturally aware of Project Alice.
She remained silent.
"Red Queen, report on the status of the primary Alice," Marcus instructed.
"Yes, sir." Red Queen began reporting on the primary Alice's status. "Currently, the primary Alice has successfully bonded with the T-virus. According to research conducted by Dr. Isaacs's clone at North American headquarters, the primary Alice is very likely a perfect T-virus compatibility candidate; she possesses a series of physical capabilities far surpassing ordinary humans."
Alicia was stunned. "Project Alice succeeded?"
Marcus nodded. "Yes and no. Currently, only the primary Alice has achieved perfect T-virus fusion; the other Alice clones have shown no comparable results."
"What's your plan?" Alicia looked at Marcus.
Marcus responded, "I want to continue researching Project Alice, and through Dr. Isaacs's clone at the North American headquarters, work to replicate the perfect T-virus adaptation technology with the primary Alice's cooperation."
"You hope to become a perfect T-virus candidate yourself?" Alicia asked.
"Why not?" Marcus countered.
Alicia fell silent.
Marcus continued, "Besides that, I also want to develop a specialized version of the T-virus. By the way, the specialized version is what I used to treat you—it removes the psychic enhancement effect but greatly improves its safety profile."
Before Alicia could ask further, Marcus continued, "Although the specialized T-virus doesn't have psychic enhancement capabilities, it can be used to augment ordinary personnel, thereby improving the overall physical quality of our company's workforce."
Alicia did not object.
Red Queen was logging the directives. "Mr. Foster, if we're simultaneously working on the anti-T-virus project, the Alice project, and the specialized T-virus project, we may not have sufficient research personnel available."
"What?" Marcus was taken aback. Umbrella Corporation was a global superpower with research facilities and branches worldwide. How could they lack researchers?
"Currently, the company has too many active research projects, primarily focusing on T-virus applications. Additionally, with the T-virus outbreak, our company is facing extensive legal challenges globally. We genuinely don't have adequate research personnel," Red Queen explained.
Marcus was speechless. "Then prioritize the anti-T-virus project. That's the highest priority, followed by the Alice project, and lastly the specialized T-virus project."
Alicia confirmed, "Execute as Mr. Foster requests."
"Yes, ma'am," Red Queen acknowledged.
"Red Queen, I order you to shut down all surveillance and monitoring devices in this room. I need to discuss classified matters with Mr. Foster," Alicia commanded.
When Dr. Isaacs had convened the highest-level meeting of Umbrella Corporation, he had blocked Red Queen's surveillance and monitoring, thus preventing her from learning about the T-virus's plan to destroy the world.
Dr. Isaacs clearly understood the Red Queen's core limitations.
"As you wish, Alicia," Red Queen agreed.
As Red Queen's presence withdrew, Alicia looked at Marcus, hesitantly asking, "Mr. Foster, who exactly are you?"
"What?" Marcus was taken aback.
"I have memories of you, and I know you're an independent director of Umbrella Corporation. I even remember you casting your vote once," Alicia explained.
"And then you noticed something was wrong?" Marcus countered.
"Yes," Alicia nodded firmly. "Because I have progeria, my father implanted a bio-computer inside me. I have a system similar to the Red Queen inside me that helps me regulate my body, especially pain management." Alicia explained candidly.
Marcus immediately thought of the auxiliary system inside Dr. Isaacs in Resident Evil: The Final Chapter.
So this technology was also developed by Dr. Marcus?
"The bio-computer AI system within my body doesn't have network connectivity; it exists solely within my body, thus avoiding external control and interference," Alicia continued.
Marcus remained silent.
"In my conscious memory, Mr. Foster is real. If it were based solely on memory, I wouldn't doubt you at all," Alicia sighed. "But, Mr. Foster, do you know that our Umbrella Corporation possesses memory implantation technology, emotion programming technology, and advanced cloning technology?"
"Simply put, if our Umbrella Corporation clones a person, we can completely fabricate memories for them, program emotions, and make them exist as a fully functional human being, without them ever suspecting the truth," Alicia explained, looking directly at Marcus.
Marcus laughed. "So you suspect I'm a clone? And you also suspect I'm a sleeper agent placed by Dr. Isaacs, that he manipulated your memories?"
Alicia didn't answer directly; she simply said calmly, "My memories exist not only in my conscious mind but are also backed up in the bio-computer within my body. I always cross-reference my conscious memories with the data stored in the bio-computer."
"Your bio-computer has no record of me, does it?" Marcus asked.
"Correct. When I go into hibernation, it also enters standby mode. Essentially, it shuts down like a conventional computer, becoming completely inactive. Memory implantation technology has no effect on it," Alicia explained.
Marcus asked in his mind, "System, is this considered a flaw in the causality rewrite?"
"No," the System responded. "The host has only invested 50 Destiny points. What level of integration did you expect to achieve?"
The System added, "According to Alicia's explanation, her bio-computer system was in standby mode, equivalent to being powered down. It's not network-connected, so the system cannot interface with its architecture."
"The system is not omniscient or omnipotent," the System reminded.
"I know, I know, I've always known. You worthless system, you broadcast such grandiose claims—like transcending all dimensions, transcending time and space, transcending everything, becoming the ultimate transcendent being—but in reality, you're just garbage," Marcus retorted.
"...Fate Warning!" the System responded with impotent fury.
"Can't even solve the temporal loop prison, isn't that garbage?" Marcus scoffed.
"...Causality Warning!" The System continued with increasingly severe warnings.
Marcus was too irritated to continue the argument.
"Mr. Foster, can you tell me who you really are?" Alicia stared intently at Marcus.
