Chapter 2 - "You Are staring?!"

The station was crowded, the usual mix of commuters, street vendors, and scattered travelers creating a cacophony of movement. Steam rose from the vents beneath the tracks, curling through the cold morning air, and Suo Ran navigated the platform with careful steps, avoiding puddles from the previous night's rain.

He turned a corner, and there was Cai Lang, standing a little too close to the edge of the platform, scrolling through his phone with that calm.Suo Ran stopped abruptly, his grip tightening around the strap of his bag. Why is he here again? Is he following me? For a brief moment, he considered turning around and pretending he hadn't seen him. Then Cai Lang looked up. The movement was casual, almost absentminded, as though he had simply felt someone's gaze on him. His eyes landed directly on Suo Ran. For a second, neither of them looked away. Surprise flickered across Cai Lang's face before being replaced by faint amusement. He slipped his phone into his pocket, his gaze remaining fixed on Suo Ran. "Cai Lang?" Suo Ran said, breaking the silence. "Suo Ran. You again!" Cai Lang replied smoothly.

Suo ran took a few steps closer, he folded his arms across his chest and narrowed his eyes. "Hold on. How do you know my name?" One of Cai Lang's eyebrows lifted. Instead of answering right away, he took a small step forward, the corner of his mouth curving upward. "I could ask you the same thing." For a moment, Suo Ran opened his mouth only to realize Cai Lang actually had a point. "Ohh!" he admitted reluctantly. And Cai Lang laughed that only made Suo Ran more suspicious. "Did you follow me?" he asked bluntly.

Cai Lang tilted his head slightly as though genuinely considering the possibility. "It's not impossible." The smirk that followed made Suo Ran stare at him in disbelief. "What kind of answer is that?" "The honest kind." "No, that's the annoying kind." "I've heard both descriptions before." Suo Ran rolled his eyes dramatically. "You enjoy irritating people, don't you?" "Only interesting people."

Judging by the amused look in Cai Lang's eyes, he wasn't supposed to know. "I didn't expect to see you here!" Suo Ran admitted after a moment, shifting his weight. "Likewise." Cai Lang glanced briefly at the crowded platform before looking back at him. "Seems fate enjoys playing tricks on us." "Or maybe the city just keeps throwing us together." "Hm." Cai Lang pretended to think about it. "I like my explanation better." "Of course you do."

Before either could continue, a loud announcement echoed through the station, informing passengers of another delay. A collective groan rose from the crowd. People shuffled around impatiently, checking their phones and muttering complaints. Suo Ran sighed and glanced around for somewhere quieter. Cai Lang noticed and gestured toward a quieter corner near the station café. "Shall we?" Suo Ran hesitated. What is he trying to do? Should I go? His gaze lingered on Cai Lang, searching for some hidden motive. Forget it. It's good to stay close to an enemy. Or at least close enough to keep an eye on him. "Fine!" he said at last.

As they moved through the crowd, their hands brushed for the briefest moment. The contact lasted less than a second, yet Suo Ran found himself strangely aware of it. Annoyed, he shoved the thought aside and followed Cai Lang toward the railing overlooking the tracks. For a while, neither spoke Cai Lang glanced sideways at him. "You're still as cautious as the first time I saw you." Suo Ran snorted softly. "I prefer observant." "Observant, then." Cai Lang nodded easily. "You notice more than most people." Suo Ran narrowed his eyes. "Is that supposed to be a compliment?" "Depends." "On what?" A faint smile appeared on Cai Lang's face as he met his gaze. "Whether you want it to be."

Suo Ran held his stare for a second before looking away first. "You always answer questions like that?" "Like what?" "Like you're saying something meaningful while actually saying nothing." To his surprise, Cai Lang laughed. For a few moments they simply watched the crowd. Then Suo Ran noticed Cai Lang glancing at him again. And again. By the third time, he couldn't ignore it. "You're staring." "Am I?" Cai Lang asked without a trace of embarrassment. "Yes." "Hm." The amusement returned to his eyes. "Then you must've been staring too if you noticed." Suo Ran looked away. "I wasn't." "Of course." The teasing tone made his denial sound weak even to himself. Why does he keep looking at me? And why am I paying attention to it?

A train rolled into the station, its screeching brakes slicing through the morning chatter. The crowd surged forward, and for a moment, Suo Ran and Cai Lang were swept apart. But they both instinctively moved toward each other again, slipping through the waves of commuters until they were side by side."Seems like fate again!" Cai Lang remarked, eyes scanning the platform. "Or maybe just coincidence.""Coincidence sounds safer!" Suo Ran said, but there was a slight smile on his lips.

Cai Lang's gaze lingered on him, sharp, intense, but not unkind. "Safe isn't always… interesting." he said softly.Suo Ran felt a strange flutter in his chest, something he didn't fully understand. "Interesting can be… dangerous!" he replied carefully, testing the words."Then we're even." Cai Lang said, a faint smirk tugging at his lips. "Because danger seems to follow you, whether you notice it or not."

They stood in companionable silence for a few moments, the hum of the station fading into a background noise. There was something charged in the air, something neither of them wanted to fully define yet.

Suo Ran finally spoke, voice low. "Why do I feel like you already know something about me that I don't want to show?"

Cai Lang's smile softened slightly, his dark eyes meeting Suo Ran's. "Maybe I do. Or maybe I just notice things most people don't."Suo Ran looked away, pretending to examine a puddle on the ground, though his mind was racing. There was something about Cai Lang dangerous, magnetic, and yet… strangely compelling.

The station clock ticked, the minutes dragging, yet neither of them moved to leave. The crowd pushed past, commuters rushing for their trains, oblivious to the quiet tension between the two young men. Cai Lang glanced at the approaching train. "Seems like our time here is limited." he said, voice low.

Suo Ran nodded. "Yeah… maybe next time we won't have to dodge commuters just to talk."Cai Lang's smile returned, faint and unreadable. "Next time, then."As the train doors slid open and the crowd shifted once more, Suo Ran felt a strange sense of anticipation mixed with unease. Cai Lang glanced toward him before go. Something unreadable flickered across his face. "I'm glad I ran into you again!" he said quietly.

Before he could think of a response, Cai Lang stepped onto the train.Suo Ran followed a second later, annoyed by the strange warmth spreading through his chest. Why does everything he says sound suspicious? he wondered while grabbing a handrail. Cai Lang had already moved a short distance away, yet Suo Ran found his gaze drifting toward him again.Their eyes met one last time before a small, knowing smile appeared on his face. Suo Ran looked away. Unbelievable, he thought, staring stubbornly at the floor. But despite his irritation, another thought surfaced almost immediately. ...When am I going to see him again?
