Chapter 13 - Escaping out of the prison

"Natural awakener..."

Xavier repeated those strange words that he heard. Natural awakener... what was that supposed to mean?

Moreover, something else surprised him even more. It had been just a few hours since the world changed; the speed at which the people accepted the new reality terrified him.

Maybe Zerin read his thoughts or he was just too easy to read—a cold voice reverberated in his head.

"Quit acting like a dumb idiot. Natural awakeners are those people who get their class naturally without the help of a module..."

"Huh...!" Xavier's mouth opened wide. This was also possible? There were people who awakened their class naturally, without needing to go through the life-and-death struggle!

He found it too difficult to accept. Suddenly all the hardships that he had to go through to slay the execution zombies flashed through his mind like a horror movie.

Still, he tried to not show these reactions on his face, but simply nodded his head with no other thought in his head.

K's face instantly lit up as he was already expecting this answer, and the way he looked at Xavier changed.

"Good, I knew my sense wouldn't lie to me. As you already know, Mr..." While saying these words, K dragged his words and looked at Xavier meaningfully.

Xavier understood what he wanted to ask and simply told him his name. "Xavier."

With a nod of his head, K continued, "Very good. As you know, the world outside is shit. I am forming a team to head to the nearest military base. I am sure there must be some way for us to connect with our families..."

K knew time was precious and anything could happen at any moment, so he did not waste any time and directly expressed his intentions.

Xavier would have liked the conversation to continue, but just at this time the ground suddenly shook. For a moment he almost lost his balance and fell headfirst. What is happening?

Surprised, he suddenly jerked his head backward. What he saw caused his pupils to narrow into slits.

A horde!

More than twenty snow-white wolves, each as big as an adult tiger, were running in his direction at their full speed.

This was bad! Although he was strong, even then he was going to struggle against twenty wolves.

Howl!

A thunderous sound of wolves roaring hit the surrounding space like a shockwave, fracturing the eardrums of warriors who weren't prepared.

"My ears... I can't hear anything."

At a simple glance, Xavier could see blood flowing freely out of the eardrums of multiple people.

Some of these people recognized the severity of their situation and were already running toward the walls. There was no way to open the gate; climbing the wall looked like the only viable option out of this place.

In a split second, tens of people were running. Xavier even spotted the young man who had been slapped by Millie a few moments ago. He was the fastest; in just a few moments, he climbed half the wall.

It was at this time, a commanding voice reverberated some distance away.

"Let's go guys, we can't stay here. This palace is already wolf territory. The longer we stay here, the more difficult it would be to get out of this place."

It was K who had spoken. At some point he was surrounded by three other people—one woman and two men—each in slightly better condition compared to the others.

Just from their stance alone, it was clear they were not regular people. As if feeling Xavier's gaze, K turned in his direction and smiled.

Xavier, however, wasn't in the mood to join their group. He had some other concerns.

Soon his gaze darted back to the woman standing in the corner, the sole sequence one awakener. Compared to everyone else, she had not moved even an inch, as if she didn't notice the tide of oncoming wolves at all.

Witnessing this sight, Xavier felt slightly perplexed.

Thinking of something, he shouted, "Miss, run! It's too dangerous here!"

His warning fell on deaf ears, as the woman didn't react at all. Xavier also let out a sigh. This was the best that he could do; if the woman didn't want to save herself, there was nothing that he could do.

Just at this time, the sound of footsteps came from behind. With urgent expressions, Jackie's group came running.

"What are you doing? We don't have time for this! Any moment the wolves will reach here, then we would not be able to run even if we wanted to..."

After Xavier's role in their escape, Jackie and others had unconsciously started relying on him. At this time, they themselves seemed not to have realized this.

While everyone waited for Xavier to speak, Samuel could not hold back any longer. "Hey, we don't have time to get emotional. After saying this he pointed at Xavier clothes and continued in a frosty tone, "Judging by your clothes, you should be the first person to run out of this place... If it weren't for this apocalypse, you would be rotting in jail for the rest of your miserable life."

"Samuel..." Aron suddenly yelled in a grim tone.

All of them had seen just how strong Xavier was. If this stupid guy were to anger him, the consequences would be disastrous.

"Hmm." Samuel also coldly snorted and said no more.

Xavier paid no attention to them but shifted his focus to the people climbing the walls, his eyes on the jewel wasps flying in the sky.

The whole situation sent chills running down his spine. Every single thing in this world wanted him to die.

"Let's go..."

Without wasting another second arguing with this brainless moron, Xavier started running. If he was even a second late, he would have been surrounded by wolves.

With almost fifty points in agility, Xavier was almost four times faster than the fastest sprinter before the apocalypse. In just a blink of an eye, his hands were grabbing on the stone protruding out of the wall. Like a monkey, his limbs worked together in tandem, quickly climbing the wall.

"Let's keep up with him..."

Jackie and others followed soon after. Millie's speed was fast, just below Xavier, stirring faint dust in her wake. In another breath, she caught up with Xavier.
