"I can't wait to see who I'll become!"
That was something the thirteen-year-old boy was always thinking to himself.
He wanted to become a hero.
He shared this dream with a lot of his fellow classmates.
But as years went by, his classmates forgot their dreams, choosing more realistic ones or even just stopping believing in a dream.
They had no dream whatsoever.
That was something he was truly disgusted by. That's why, all those years, he kept believing and working toward his ideal.
Even if it was impossible.
He wanted to be a hero.
Someone who makes sure no one will ever have to cry again.
That was his most dearly held wish.
On weekends, the boy, now a middle schooler, would arpenter the streets with his red cloak floating behind his back.
He would help the elderly cross the streets and take care of the grocery bags of tired young mothers.
He would help children playing at the park find their ball stuck at the top of a tree.
He would slip and fall multiple times trying to grab it, but he would never back down. And eventually, he would finally return the ball to the group of kids waiting.
"Thanks!"
That was the simplest of words. But he would always be happy whenever someone thanked him.
Each time someone thanked him, he felt closer to his dream. Little by little, he would become the hero he was hoping for.
As he grew older, boys or girls his age would start making fun of him.
Laughing behind his back, making fun of his red cloak, now too small for him.
He would get insulted in the school corridors, and each morning someone would have stolen his desk chair and hidden it.
He would help someone with their homework, but the next day, that same person would laugh about him with the others.
At that time, he had a rabbit who he felt especially close to for a strange reason he couldn't pinpoint.
He would tell his rabbit everything. His joy, his sadness, his disappointments, and his memories.
In a way, he felt it was similar to him. He felt close to his rabbit. More than anyone.
It was the only confidant with whom he shared his dream of becoming a hero.
That's why he said this sentence to him at the time.
"I can't wait to see who I'll become!"
Words that came from an innocent child's mouth, who didn't know how he would tragically end before meeting what he was hoping for.
