Seeing Tobey Maguire causing another scene on the busy streets of New York, Harry's patience finally snapped. The Tobey he remembered was kind, honest, and fiercely loyal. Seeing his childhood best friend acting like a narcissistic stranger was a bitter pill to swallow. Having nearly lost his own way, Harry knew the darkness Tobey was currently wading through, and he refused to let him drown.
"When do we make our move? I can't just stand here and watch this!" Harry demanded.
Peter shook his head calmly. "It's not time yet, Harry. What's possessing him isn't a simple illness or a bad attitude. I call them Symbiotes."
Technical Insight: Symbiotes are parasitic organisms that bond with a host, feeding on their adrenaline and amplifying their darkest impulses. Because the bond is mental and biological, it is incredibly difficult for an outsider to forcibly remove the parasite without the host's active willpower.
"Here is the plan," Peter continued. "We need to lead him to Aunt May's. You and May are the only ones who can reach the kindness still buried inside him. We need to wake him up from the inside out."
Harry nodded, his resolve hardening. They just needed the right moment to lure the "Bully" away.
The Predator in the Crowd
While they planned, Tobey continued his flamboyant stroll down Fifth Avenue. Suddenly, his Spider-Sense flared—not with a sharp warning of an attack, but with a cold, creeping dread. He stopped and turned, his eyes narrowing.
In the middle of the bustling crowd, a man had appeared out of nowhere. His attire was a bizarre mix of Victorian formal wear and a brass diver's helmet. In his hand, he gripped a pronged energy fork that hummed with a sickly red light.
This was Karn, of the Morlun family. His gaze, hidden behind the glass of his helmet, fell upon Tobey like a starving man looking at a five-course meal. To an Inheritor, Tobey's Spider Totem aura was exceptionally pure—a rare vintage they hadn't tasted in centuries.
Tobey, however, was in no mood for creepy stares. The "Bully" smirked, his ego amplified to a dangerous degree.
"I'm going to throw some dirt in your eyes," Tobey muttered. "So you'll never dare look at anyone like that again."
The Hunger of a God
Before Tobey could act, two police officers on patrol noticed the strange man. Seeing the diver's helmet and the archaic suit, they assumed they were dealing with a deranged cosplayer or a mental patient. They stepped forward, each grabbing one of Karn's shoulders.
"NYPD! Hands up! Get on the ground!"
Karn's hands moved with a speed that bypassed human perception, snapping up to grip the officers' wrists. A hollow, ethereal voice drifted from the helmet.
"Ignorant insects... daring to touch a god? Offer your humble lives as sacrifices to beg for my forgiveness."
The horror that followed happened in less than a second. As Karn held them, the two burly officers visibly began to shrivel. Their skin turned to gray parchment, their muscles evaporated, and their very life force was sucked into Karn's palms. By the time Karn let go, two desiccated corpses in oversized uniforms crumbled to the pavement, turning into fine dust before they even hit the ground.
Karn hadn't just taken their lives; he had devoured their souls.
The Clash of Titans
Panic erupted. The dense crowd of Fifth Avenue scattered in every direction, screaming as they fled the "demon" in the street. In the middle of the chaos, only two remained: Karn, the Totem Hunter, and Tobey Maguire.
Beneath Tobey's black suit, countless dark tentacles writhed and extended, fully manifesting the Black Spider-Man form. He showed no fear. In his arrogance, he was actually glad the crowd had cleared—it meant more room to fight.
Karn smacked his lips, sensing the appetizer was over and the main course had arrived. "Your costume... it's hideous. It emits a foul odor that ruins my appetite. But it doesn't matter. I'll peel it off and savor the meat slowly."
Tobey didn't bother with a witty comeback. He reached out, grabbed two parked sedans with his webbing, and hurled them at Karn with the strength of a freight train.
Boom!
The cars flew through the air like steel meteors. Karn didn't even flinch. With a casual wave of his energy fork, two dark red crescents of light sliced through the air.
Crack! Crack!
The cars were severed perfectly in half. Their fuel tanks ignited, turning them into four massive fireballs that engulfed the street. But as the smoke billowed, two black tentacles shot out from the flames like vipers, coiling tightly around Karn's ankles.
