Chapter 8 - 8. Time Passes

Since the migration of fire elementals, five hundred human years have passed.

During this time a lot has changed, the most notable being....Death.

The two different factions of fire elementals have themselves names, for they wished to not associate with one another.

The Rebels called themselves Caldan, which meant Freedom and Harship, conveying to the world that through great hardship, they are now free.

The Loyalists called themselves the Ruth, which meant loyalty and glory, conveying to the world that they still remain loyal to their King and that they wish to reclaim their Glory.

Incidentally, it was found out that fire elementals have lifespan of three hundred years.

In Caldan, this caused great chaos as Azu, their object of loyalty passed away suddenly, never seeing the light of freedom in his lifetime.

The fire elementals in Caldan panicked, for the fear of death was too oppressive for the nascent civilization such as themselves.

They ran around, screaming about the impending doom and how this was their punishment for betraying Zeroth. They refused to believe that a race as great as themselves could one day fall to the grip of death.

According to oral record, of the twenty thousand fire elementals of Caldan, five thousand believed that this was a punishment of Zeroth, even though Zeroth had yet to return from the migration of Bufl.

During that time, the city of Caldan (obsidian fortress but they changed the name after some time) fell into anarchy with various clans declaring independence from Caldan, hoping to use the chaos to gain power.

At that time, a Hero appeared. Or more accurately Heroes appeared.

Novick Azu, the eldest some of Azu and the leader to the Azu clan, used bloody means to restore order in the city, at the cost of three thousand fire elementals and several clans forever disappearing in the dust of history.

Helio Frandel, the clan leader of the Frandel clan, which earned their clan name the meaning:- Determined and steadfast. He led his fifty strong clan guard and launched a hunt of the clans who declared independence from Caldan.

According to records, it is said that at the cost of thirty of his clan guards, Helio used various tactics and committed genocide on the two thousand strong independent clans.

The reason for this remained unknown for a time, until it was revealed fifty years later that the Frandel clan had managed to reserch Feir so much that they created a new profession, which would come to be known in morden day as a Pyromancer, using various spells to weave destruction of many through few.

No matter the process, due to their contribution towards this, and the fact that they remained loyal despite possesing such great strength, Novick Azu granted Frandel clan the title of 'The Lion Of Caldan'.

They were also granted the permission to create a new city, which they readily accepted. Thus, The Lion Of Caldan, under the leadership of their clan leader Helios Frandel, established the city of Tork, about seventy seven kilometres away from the City of Caldan.

Hence, from them on, Caldan no longer remained a City state but turned into a true Empire, with its capital Caldan.

After much deliberation, a few more powerful clans were allowed to create their cities, partially to create good relationships with them and partially to send them away from the capital, as these clans posses enough power to overthrow the Azu clan's rulership should they unite.

One thing to note is that both Azu and Novick Azu called themselves the Emperor which meant ruler of a Kingdom or race, in their language. That is because King meant Ruler of the world, which despite their resentment, they recognised that Zeroth is worthy of that title.

Also, after the rebellion, the few that were surrendered or were arrested, were removed of their status as a clan, turning them into lower normal citizens. Due to no longer having the clan restraints, the new 'slaves' reproduced rapidly, bringing the population of the empire of Caldan to fifty thousand, with only five thousand being clan members and the rest normal citizens.

Hence, after four hundred years, the nobles of Caldan finally had normal citizens (all clans are considered nobles).

This incident was recognised as the Grey Purge, as it occurred due to ignorance and fear towards death, and baseless ambition.

However, compared to the chaos in Caldan, the situation in Ruth was much more....calm.

After three hundred years of development, the fire elementals had turned their castle into a true fortress, something meant for both war and living.

As they had already lost their sacred land, the fire elementals of Ruth did not care about further speading, creating dozens of castles governed by various meritious clans.

'Coincidentally', these castles seemed to form a perimeter around the Caldan empire, with holes to absolutely strangle it (though it clearly hasnt worked as they are still thriving).

Incidentally, a great unfortune happened during the year two hundred and fifty after migration. When the Vintage clan was granted the honour of setting up the first castle other than Ruth, they were besieged by a remanent subspecies of Insic, leading to the death of Clan Vintage, truly a great misfortune, along with some more clans who were with them, all who had good power and were dissatisfied by the two elder clans having so much power. The elders grieved a lot at this, inventing something called 'Dance' in order to show their sorrow.

Nevertheless, time moved forward, the twin elders died peacefully, and the fire elementals of Ruth discoverd that Death is a thing. However, they believed that the resentment of Caldan had cutt off their immortal lifespan, leading to unity through a common enemy (the cutting lifespan was discovered by the elder clans, they are so smart guys).

Their population was much slower as they had...twenty thousand clan member, they seemed to have gotten the elf trait of living in trees ,having long life span, hating others, and having low reproduction and a lot of pride.
