Retherly, a small town on the outskirts of the northern dukedom. Inside an unknown small Traven.
Continuation of the interview.
The man drank the root gulping down the whole cup.
"What about his maid?"
The man took a breath and covered his eyes before glancing at the light crystal in the ceiling.
"I was there when the young master went to the slave market to buy a slave. It had been a condition the duchess had imposed on him. Slaves are a great way for children of nobles learn how to manage servants. The duchess had made him buy the slave using his allowance. "
"Aren't slaves expensive?"
"That boy was clever, he had enough money to buy the most expensive, but he had to keep his money for his alchemy, so he went to the slave market looking for the cheapest. "
"O, that's clever ."
"Yes, when he found that little girl, she was so bruised and beaten up, I didn't know which gender she was. I was observing him when I noticed his expression upon seeing the child lying inside the cage; it was one of pure excitement. I had never seen him that excited. "
"Was it that bad?"
The man chuckled bitterly.
"The first thing that crossed my mind when he chose her was that she was going to die before we even reach the estate, I would have beenblamed for that. I tried to dissuade him but he would not budge on his decision. "
"But the maid looks normal now."
"Haa! You would think that but every bone in her face had been smashed in. I even wondered who would do something like that to a child... I need more root."
The root beer was placed in front of him. He chugged it down.
"Where was I? Ooh, yes, when he brought her back to the estate, the duchess was, of course, confused and cross with him, but he managed to charm his way out of her wrath.
Then he disappeared into that laboratory of his for a week before he came out alone. I thought it had happened, the girl was dead.
He did this for a whole three months disappearing into his laboratory and coming out. Poor boy, I had thought, lost his first slave at such a young age. I was even ready to help him choose another slave. I regret feeling pity for him."
"What happened after?"
The person asked his voice getting lower.
....
Everbound Academy, one month later.
In a large private laboratory, papers were scattered everywhere, and transparent, huge, round glass containers lined the walls of the laboratory.
Inside different people, test subjects were suspended in jelly-like liquid, while some of the containers had different body parts. There were also metal beds with straps covered in still-dripping blood.
This was the laboratory my dear professor had been kind enough to offer to me for my experiments while at school. He also participated in them and gave out his opinions.
"If you destroy the temporal lobe in the cerebrum, the subject loses their sense of hearing, memory, touch, smell, taste, and language. This is the best form of brainwashing. If you reconstruct the lobe with ingrained spells, the subject will be able to operate normally , and experience the first sight bonding effect."
Professor Gilbert patted my back with a smile on his face. He leaned down and looked at the place I was pointing to on the brain.
Since it wasn't an unofficial class, Luna had been allowed to come in as my helper.
"After reconstruction, will they get their previous memories back?"
I shook my head.
"I've done a few personal experiments and it has not happened. The person will be just like a newborn. You can teach them whatever you want and they will follow it to the maximum. But they only bond to the first person they see after opening their eyes."
The professor turned and looked at Luna his eyes shining.
"Can't you just let me see inside of her. I want to see how you created such a marvelous homunculus."
I sighed and shook my head.
"Stitch her up," I said to Luna, who was standing beside me, then turned to my professor, " she's not a homunculus, professor, just a normal human being. I've said it a thousand times, Luna is off limits."
The professor pouted at my refusal. He has asked so many times that it has become some sort of routine. He kept on insisting that Luna was a homunculus, but those are artificially made humans, which Luna wasn't.
And I wasn't at that level of creating those artificials yet, but I will, in the future, after an in-depth study of the human body.
"That's so mean. Why won't you just give her to be for just a few hours? I'll get you the zelph flowers you were looking for."
I shook my head. Nothing would ever change my mind.
"I managed to find it professor so you're too late."
Donovan did find at an auction. Zelph flower was a strong sedative and could even knock out a dragon if a few more were used. It was pretty rare since it was mainly cultivated by dark elves using their dark magic but finding a dark elf was like looking for a needle in a haystack.
They did not like interacting with any other species. But the flowers were always in the market in small intervals so there had to be a dark elf somewhere or just a full community.
"I'll catch you somewhere, you just wait. We've been here long enough, I want to go to a brothel and enjoy myself while I'm still too young. "
I smiled at that. I was enjoying myself enough with my sister a brothel will be useless.
"I'll think about the professor. "
He looked at me for a while before glancing at Luna his eyes widening before a smile graced his old face.
"You little rascal, I envy you."
I just chuckled. It was better for his misunderstanding to continue. He went and picked up some of his files before heading for the exit.
"Do not forget to lock the door."
His fading shout reached my ears.
"Master, I'm done."
I nodded. And handed her a blue handkerchief.
"Cover her eyes, she should be waking up soon."
I looked at the clock and walked towards the door. Just as I reached the door, there was a small knock.
I put on a smile and opened the door. Behind the door was a boy who was on the verge of entering manhood. He had blue curly hair matching his aqua blue eyes, he only reached my chest, and was wearing glasses that covered almost half of his face.
"Are....you done, you promised me..... today."
He said in a trembling voice. I stepped back to let him in. He stepped into the laboratory, and I locked the door softly behind me.
"I would never lie to you."
I said to him and pointed at the table where the girl was lying. She had started to groan as her consciousness started to regain.
He started to walk towards the girl but Luna stepped in front of him.
"You haven't given me my pay Abelion."
He paused before turning to me and gave me a space ring.
"It's here, the exact designs," he took out a small notepad and pushed it to be," the blueprint. I made five as promised and a blueprint."
I smiled and stored both of the treasures. We had signed a magical contract so he would never lie to me unless he wanted to lose his magic and be hunted down by the Bloodmoor family.
The boy, Abeloin, was nothing but a low-level noble. The lastborn son of an unknown baron. A child hated by everyone in the family for killing the baroness during his birth.
Only fools would blame a child for the mother's death. Who got the woman pregnant in the first place?
Abelion was the one who built the professor's static tanks for keeping bodies, dead or alive, inside without them decomposing.
This will allow a longer study period. I wasn't a mechanic or engineer, so i had had to freeze the bodies to keep them fresh or just throwthemaway before they could finish their use.
"Thank you, you can take her. Make sure she sees you when she wakes up."
Abeloin nodded and walked to the girl I had been operating on. This had been a barter trade. The modified slave girl for the static tank and blueprintt.
Whatever he was going to do with the girl, I didn't care. He was the one who proposed the deal to me.
"She should be back to normal in three days to a week. Just take care of her well."
He picked up the slave who was looking up at him and princess carried her out of the laboratory .
"Master, may I ask you something?"
Luna's voice came after Abeloin left. I nodded and turned to her.
"Sure."
"Won't you get in trouble if the academy finds out what you are doing?"
I chuckled and patted her head. She leaned into my touch.
"They won't do anything. I am a bloodmoor, and it's just gifting slaves. Thats a normal practice. "
Luna still looked worried despite my reassurance.
"We're going to be okay," I rubbed her head in reassurance, "I need to sleep. "
I walked out of the laboratory with Luna following behind me after she had locked the doors.
