Dear Diary,
It continues from Mr. Alex's class.
Today in Mathematics, Mr. Alex wrote on the board
"Calculus".
Even though we had done this topic in my previous school, I still don't understand it. I feel like I lack a strong foundation in Mathematics, and I'm really struggling to pass each term.
Before I knew it, the board was already full. He turned around and said,
"After this example, I will call someone to answer a question."
My heart dropped.
He scanned the class slowly… like he was searching for his target. And then he said it.
"Precious Kaffy!"
I stood up trembling and walked slowly to the board. The chalk felt heavy in my hand. My mind went blank immediately.
I kept telling myself, I've done this before… I've been here before… I should know this.
But I didn't.
This is not the first time something like this is happening. In my previous school, I used to end up like this… standing in front of everyone… silent… and becoming a laughing stock.
"Miss Kaffy, we are waiting," Mr. Alex said again.
But I still couldn't speak. I just stood there.
Then something unexpected happened.
He called Daniel.
"Daniel, help her out."
Daniel stood up, collected the chalk, and walked to the board. He solved the question quickly… too quickly… then gave a slight mocking bow.
The whole class burst into laughter.
My face burned with shame.
Mr. Alex sighed. "Precious Kaffy, see me tomorrow."
I nodded silently and returned to my seat.
Chioma turned to me and said softly, "Don't worry Precious, we are in this together."
But the way she said it… her eyes weren't fully on me.
They were on Daniel.
I said nothing, but I noticed it immediately.
She definitely has a crush on him!
Soon, the bell rang for break.
I stood up, holding my books tightly to my chest like they were my only protection. Like they were my life treasure.
As I walked, Daniel followed behind me.
"Let's go to the cafeteria," he said. "I need to tell you something."
I hesitated… then nodded.
We walked together.
But halfway there, he stopped.
"Precious…" he said quietly.
"I like you. Let's be together."
Everything froze.
Even the noise around us disappeared for a second.
Then,
clink.
The sound of a plate breaking shattered the silence.
I turned immediately.
It was Chioma.
She had been there the whole time.
She heard everything.
She didn't say a word… but her face said everything.
Shock. Anger. Jealousy.
She turned sharply and walked away without looking back.
I really don't know how she found out about me and him
That was when I realized… this is not just about me anymore.
There is something deeper going on.
And I don't even understand it yet.

I think it's time I finally tell you his name properly.

Later that day…
He texted me.
"Let's make it official."
I stared at the message for a long time before replying.
"Okay. I agree."
I told myself I meant it.
Because I do like him… at least I think I do.
The next day, we met at the school entrance.
He held my hand like it was the most natural thing in the world.
And I heard myself say, Those up there are trying to mess with me today."
We walked into class together.
Hand in hand.
The room went silent.
Then whispers started immediately.
"How did Precious and Ezra end up together?"
"She's new here after all…"
But as I sat down, I couldn't shake the feeling building inside me.
Chioma didn't look at us once.
And Daniel…
He was just staring.
Like he already knew this story was not going to end well.
And somehow…
I agree with him.
