In Lagos art-filled streets, on a rainy night in September, the family of Mr and Mrs Akini were in chaos as the pregnant Mrs Akini was within her labour period, her water broke, few minutes ago. She couldn't go to the hospital as it was raining heavily and she can't give birth on her own because she does not have experience on giving birth solely. Fatima, her 18 year old daughter was pacing around trying to find an Uber driver online that can take them to the hospital while Mr Akini was supporting his wife and helping her walk
"Yes, I got it" Fatima yelled, "daddy, I got a driver for us, let's help mummy outside, the driver will be here anytime soon". She ran inside to take the luggage her and her mother had packed 5 days ago, she looked around to be sure she is not forgetting anything. She locked the house windows and the door and went to meet her parents outside. By the time she got there, the Uber driver had arrived and Mr Akini was helping his wife into the vehicle "be careful Iya Fatima, just endure, you can do this". Mr and Mrs Akini sat at the back of the car while Fatima sat at the front "Green Garden Hospital, Ojota" she told the driver.
It took 48 minutes before they finally got to the hospital, the nurses treated the case as an emergency and 22 minutes later, she was in the Operating room. The doctor on duty said she wasted lots of her energy already and she can't push the baby out herself and a cesarean operation has to be performed on her. Mr Akini was told to sign some documents and pay a sum of 500 thousand naira for deposit. The nurses asked Fatima and Mr Akini to please wait in the waiting room and that they'll get back to them.
