The room Gerin put us in was huge. It had a bed that was easily twice as big as a King size, and two velvet sofas across from it, one of them big enough to fit Red. I had no issue with him lying down with Amara and me, but he didn't feel comfortable with that idea, so he chose the sofa.

The satin sheets seemed to melt against my skin, and the feathery pillow was probably made in fairy heaven. As soon as I lay on it, my eyes began to drift shut.

We didn't talk much—none of us had the energy to say even a few words. But most importantly, we felt safe. Maybe we shouldn't have. We were in unknown territory, in the castle of a guy who claimed he wanted to help us for a reason he wouldn't share, but my wolf's instincts were never wrong. She felt at ease, relaxed enough that she shut down and let me sleep for what felt like an entire day.

And then, her growl awoke me.

My eyes popped open, and a sense of panic pressed against my chest.
