I expected to still be in the car when I woke up, but I wasn't. The carpet under me smelled brand new. I knew because my face was pressed to it. The smell of my dried blood was there, too, to remind me of what had happened and what exactly had caused me to pass out. That asshole was going to pay, my wolf thought—and I agreed wholeheartedly. Prying my eyes open without moving was hard—I was lying on my side with my knees close to my chest and my left arm completely numb. My hands were still cuffed behind my back, but I needed to know what I was dealing with before I tried to move. My wolf was wide-awake, aware of everything—even the ticking clock on the wall somewhere, so I took courage from her and focused on my surroundings.
