Chapter 4 - To die where peony blooms unfold For the fair one, heart and soul

In her past life, Ye Wanwan had only thought that she had lost her innocence and done something unforgivable to Gu Yueze. She had not retorted a single word to all his harsh remarks. When he said he had been left with no choice, she had forgiven him completely. And when she learned he had come to take her away, she had been utterly moved, convinced that he still cared for her deep down.

How pathetically foolish she had been.

Little did she know, all this had merely been a matter of a man's wounded pride.

After all, she had once been his fiancée. Now, she had become Si Yehan's lover. If word of this got out, where would that leave his dignity?

The moment Gu Yueze told her to go with him, Ye Wanwan distinctly felt the temperature around her drop sharply.

In the shadows just a few steps away from her, a man's figure blended seamlessly into the night. The ferocious, murderous aura radiating from him raged uncontrollably, as if he would tear someone to shreds in the next second, devouring them so completely that not even a bone would remain.

Xu Yi, the assistant standing beside Si Yehan, was already soaked in cold sweat, his legs trembling violently.

What a godforsaken mess. To witness the boss's woman sneaking off with another man in the dead of night, about to cuckold the boss himself!

Ever since Ye Wanwan had appeared in the boss's life, none of them underlings had had a single day of peace. Whenever the boss flew into a rage, they all had to suffer for it.

And this woman had a knack for driving Si Yehan up the wall like no other.

The level of the boss's fury this time was enough to burn the entire imperial capital to the ground!

Xu Yi closed his eyes in despair. He didn't even need to look to know just how green the boss's head was about to turn...

Seeing Ye Wanwan make no move to follow, Gu Yueze's expression turned a touch impatient. He reached out directly to grab her and pull her along.

Ye Wanwan stepped back nimbly, dodging his touch.

"Wanwan?" Gu Yueze frowned.

Ye Wanwan's expression turned frosty. "Gu Yueze, did I ever say I wanted to go with you?"

Pity flickered in Gu Yueze's eyes. "Wanwan, a man of Si Yehan's stature is only toying with you. Why degrade yourself like this just to get back at me!"

In his memory, Ye Wanwan had been head over heels in love with him, hanging on his every word without question. So Gu Yueze simply assumed she was acting out to get his attention.

"Degrade myself?"

Ye Wanwan let out a cold laugh, as if she had just heard the funniest joke in the world. "Si Yehan is richer than you, more powerful than you, better-looking than you, and has a better figure than you. Even sleeping with him once is better than spending a lifetime with you. Where on earth do you get the audacity to say such things?"

"You..." Gu Yueze had never expected Ye Wanwan to say something like that. His face darkened instantly.

At the very same moment, the man in the shadows, whose aura had been raging wildly moments before, suddenly calmed down—like a ferocious beast that had just been petted into docility.

Xu Yi wore a look of sheer relief, shooting a stunned glance in Ye Wanwan's direction.

What on earth had gotten into Miss Ye today?

That was nothing like the kind of thing she would ever say. Hadn't she been madly in love with Gu Yueze?

Shouldn't she be eager to elope with him at the first chance?

Could this be nothing more than a trick of playing hard to get?

Gu Yueze was truly enraged this time. His voice turned icy cold as he issued a sharp warning. "Wanwan, don't act like a spoiled child with me. Si Yehan's background is unfathomable, and he's a ruthless killer at heart. Do you have any idea how many lives are stained on his hands? If you stay with a man like that, are you courting death?"

In the face of Gu Yueze's impassioned warning, Ye Wanwan merely let out a lazy yawn. The next second, she lifted the corner of her eye to shoot him a sidelong glance, her voice lingering like a whisper. "So what if he is? To die beneath the peony flowers, even as a ghost, one can die a romantic death—"
