Chapter 7 - Episode 7

After sitting on the floor lost in thought for a moment, I decided to go down as far as possible.

"Sitting around here won't change anything."

With that, I turned my steps toward the lower levels of the dungeon.

"Is that a goblin?"

I spotted a goblin, one of the representative monsters of fantasy worlds.

"Six of them is a bit..."

Before I could even finish thinking it might be too much, I started to lose half my mind again.

'Damn! I need to check how many attacks it takes to lose consciousness completely!'

Contrary to my mind growing slightly hazy, I began to feel as if the blood in my entire body was boiling.

"Ha! Haha!!"

I could feel my emotions rising even before I did anything.

'Something... feels a bit different from before?'

A clear difference, feeling things I hadn't in the previous fight.

'Thud! Thud! Thud!'

As I stepped, the sound of metal clashing against the floor echoed, and the goblins' gazes immediately started to gather on me, but

"""Gyaaak!!"""

"""Gyaaak!!!"""

This time, before the opponents could even come to me, I approached them first.

"Gyaaak?!!"

Perhaps startled that their target had suddenly appeared in front of them? Most of them hesitated for a moment.

"Crack!!"

"Gyaaaaaak?!!!"

In an instant, one of the goblin's arms flew off into the distance.

"Gyaaak!!!"

Another one hurriedly attacked me, but

'Thump!'

With a low stance, a single kick made one leg disappear along with the knee, and it lost balance and fell face-first to the floor.

"Gya, gyaaak!!"

"Gyaaak?!!"

I remembered somewhere that monsters born in the dungeon were supposed to have no emotions, but the goblins before my eyes were filled with fear, and

"Ahaha! Farewell!!"

'Crunch!!'

Whether feeling elation seeing the goblins like that, I laughed loudly and chased after the remaining goblins, stomping their heads to burst like balloons or tearing out their spines.

"Haa... haa... Ugh?!"

A moment later, coming to my senses, I couldn't hold back the rising disgust and retched, but fortunately, since I hadn't eaten anything, nothing came out.

"Huff... What the hell, am I a complete madman?"

Killed a life? They're just monsters, so it doesn't matter at all. Yet, the reason I reacted like this was for one thing.

"What kind of crazy bastard enjoys killing and falls over?!"

It wasn't the joy of hunting, but I clearly felt that I was enjoying the act of killing itself.

"...I should just take out the magic stones and get out quickly."

It might only be with monsters, but what I felt just now was definitely dangerous, so I hurriedly left the dungeon.

"Damn... If this keeps happening, it'll be troublesome..."

It seems like the only means left to earn money is to use the knowledge I know.

"Sigh..."

I was about to head to the guild to sell the magic stones I obtained, but

"Should have fought a bit more cleanly..."

I had to first remove the blood and flesh bits stuck here and there on my armor.

"Next time, I should wrap bandages around my fists or something when fighting... it's a bit sore from getting scratched."

Using the towel I brought just in case, I wiped the blood off my face and hands, then headed to the guild.

"Huh? Kai! Welcome... Eek?!!"

I startled the guild employee in charge.

"Phew... From now on, use the facilities in Babel Tower to wash up before coming!"

"Yes, sorry..."

Perhaps because I saw how genuinely startled she was earlier, I automatically became submissive to her words.

"Heehee, don't look so down~ Everyone is like that at first."

"...Then, couldn't you just explain it from the beginning?"

But for some reason, when I asked that, she paused for a moment and started stammering.

"Uh, well, you see... it's like, a kind of initiation?"

"...You didn't just forget, did you?"

"..."

"Right?"

"...Sorry"

"..."

All the apologies inside me vanished.

"Eek?!!"

.

.

.

Honestly, I don't know what expression I made, but in an instant, the expressions of the people around turned pale, and the girl right in front of me was trembling all over, with tears welling in her eyes, so I guess my expression wasn't good.

"I, I'll tell you from now on! Please, drop that expression!!"

She hurriedly grabbed my arm and took me to what seemed like a private room inside the guild.

"And after Babel's second floor, there are various convenience facilities prepared for adventurers, like a simple cafeteria, exchange office, medical facilities, and from the fourth floor, there are shops for adventurers... typically, the Hephaestus Familia has branches in Babel from the fourth to eighth floors."

She began explaining the knowledge necessary for adventurers in detail, one by one.

"Um... with this, the basic education is all over..."

"There's quite a variety, huh?"

"Yeah... Orario exports magic stones and magic stone products collected from the dungeon to make money, so naturally, facilities for adventurers were added one by one, I heard."

"...But you forgot to teach such important things and didn't educate me?"

"S, sorry..."

After the education ended and we came out of the room, some employees started making surprised expressions.

'Misha doing education for that long...'

'Working at the guild for a long time, you see scenes like this.'

'Indeed, indeed.'

'...But didn't you join later than Misha?'

'Hey! In times like this, just let it go!'

Seeing the employees' conversations about her, it seems she isn't particularly diligent by nature.

'No, this is only this much!!'

'Because of the monster horde that appeared at the end...'

'Today's total profit is...'

While listening to the education, quite some time had passed, and the guild was crowded with many adventurers bustling about.

"...Misha?"

"Huh?"

"I want to exchange some magic stones. Where should I go?"

"Ah, for that, go to the exchange office over there and say 'I came to exchange magic stones'!"

"Got it. Then, I'll be off."

As I went to exchange the magic stones, Misha sat down at her usual desk and then collapsed right there.

'...Was my expression that bad?'

Arriving at the exchange office, I exchanged the 8 magic stones I obtained today for money.

"8 magic stones from goblins and kobolds, total 3200 valis."

"Thank you."

It was a small comfort that just 8 magic stones could earn 3200 valis.

"Sigh... How should I explain this to Lord Miach..."

Even on the way home, my mind couldn't easily sort out the current situation.

"If this madness-like thing is somehow resolved, I can go back to the dungeon, but if it's like this, my already limited means of earning money become even fewer... Should I really do this?"

Despite having knowledge from Earth, the reason I hadn't used it until now was because of potential unforeseen changes.

"It would be troublesome if this changes the future I know..."

I only read the manga up to the middle, but I roughly knew the general plot afterward because I heard my friends spoiling it a few times, so even if not completely, I had a general idea.

"Damn... I should have listened properly back then."

I know regretting the past is useless, but right now, regret strongly overwhelmed me.

"...Let's just go for it."

The future might change? First, I need to live. Would the entire future really change because of one guy like me?

'Clink!'

"I'm back."

"Welcome back..."

"Welcome back, Kai. How was your first dungeon?"

Returning home, seeing the two people greeting me, I steeled my resolve once again.

"Hunting monsters in the dungeon was more doable than I thought."

"That's good to hear."

"Was there any particular problem?"

I decided to first solve what needs to be resolved before unleashing the knowledge I know.

"The act of hunting monsters itself wasn't a problem... but I have an issue with myself."

"...Huh?"

"Is there somewhere that hurts or something?"

"I wish it were just a physical pain..."

"...Is it a mental problem?"

I openly confessed to the two about my madness.

"Hmm... I've never seen a case like that before."

"It's definitely me moving my body, but my mind doesn't feel like mine... it's a strange feeling."

"Then... until that's fixed, you can't go down to the dungeon?"

"As senior said, I plan to restrain myself until this is fixed."

"That's good thinking... if you ever attack a person, it would be a real disaster."

Fortunately, the two didn't seem to mind much about me not going to the dungeon, so I asked them to wait a moment and took out one of the things I had only written on paper and sealed away until now.

"Kai, what are those bundles of paper in your hand?"

"They all seem to have explanations written densely?"

"Please think of it as all the knowledge I know... something like that."

Of course, it wasn't everything, just things related to medicine that I had gathered, but I thought this much was sufficient for now.

"Kai... this is!"

"If you combine these like this... no, here it's combined this way, then..."

Lord Miach quickly skimmed through the paper I handed over, made a surprised expression, and looked at me, while Naza seemed to be examining the combination methods written on the paper.

"It's certainly impressive, each one... but where on earth did you get such knowledge?"

"...Kai, where did you come from and what did you do?"

Naturally, Lord Miach and Naza asked how I knew such things, but for me, it was still a difficult part to talk about.

"...For now, I can only say that my mother worked in this field, so I know it... something like that."

"It's the truth..."

"...You have a past that's hard to talk about, huh?"

"Yes... I'll explain properly later when time passes."

"Alright... I'll believe you."

"The fact that you showed us this means you trust us, so we should trust you too."

"...Thank you."

Whether it's because they're good people or because of their trust in me, both didn't pry deeply into me.

"Now, back to the main topic... first of all, each one is definitely a good product."

"Moreover, some of the things written here, if properly completed, would clearly be a big help in repaying our debt..."

"But the problem is that most of the things written here are very difficult to make at present."

"The materials are one thing, but we lack the money to equip the necessary facilities..."

But despite my efforts, realistic problems stood in the way.

"Damn, money again..."

As I held my head, Lord Miach picked up one of the papers scattered around.

"Among the possible ones, there's one similar to something Naza has been researching bit by bit for a while."

"...Something you were researching?"

"If it's something I've been researching... Lord Miach, by any chance?"

Lord Miach smiled slightly and handed me the paper he just picked up.

"There happens to be something similar to the imitation hot spring Naza was making."

"...Bath bomb? What's this?"

"...You want to make bath products?"

And so, the first use of my knowledge in this place became not medicine, but bath products.
