Emily looked out the window, bored. Rain pattered against it, misting it until all she could see was the blurred reflection of herself on the glass. The rhthym of raindrops hitting the windowpanes soothed her and she pressed her face against it, feeling the coolness of the rain-splattered glass seep into her skin. Emily was a pretty young girl of seventeen. Her silky waist-length hair that was a mix between caramel and coffee brown fell in soft wavy curls around her face. She had glowing olive skin and large piercing mossy green eyes that seemed too big for her face. She sighed and turned away from the window. "It's about time I start cooking. Mom will be home in an hour" she thought. But what was the point of cooking food if there was barely anything to cook. Each day, she only ate some cold bread for meals. Sometimes, like today, her mom saved enough money to buy some meat. Emily knew that the money was from her mother walking to work instead of taking the bus. Her mother's boss, Edward was head over heels for her mother but she wouldn't accept him just yet. Her thoughts then wandered to her father. Anger suddenly boiled in her veins. You see, Emily's father was a businessman. With a stretch on the was. He used to be this millionaire and Emily had the easy life with hundreds at her disposal. But then his company went bankrupt and he ran off with their savings leaving Em's mom with a huge debt. That was why her mom didn't accept Edward yet, she wasn't sure of him. Of course he seemed like a really nice and chill guy but her father was something like that too. That's the thing about experience, you can't trust someone of that type if you've had a bad clash with them. After the incident, Em's mom -Lucinda worked double jobs to keep them afloat. In the day, she was the housemaid (and "crush") of Mr. Edward. At night, her mom worked odd jobs to earn extra pay. Em knew it wasn't necessary, it was just so that her mom could pay her private school fees even though everyone there treated her like trash. She tried convincing her mom to let her learn at a public school but her mom said "You need the good education, sweetie". Then door opened and in walked her mom.
