Chapter 3 - Metallic Rainfall

The following chapter and story bare no relation to any religion.

Metallic Rainfall

For the love of God, give me a break!

I turned to look at Krista who's dumbstruck at the sight she's seeing. I survey the area around me; the situation has finally started to kick in with people as many have already started to run and after realising why they have started running, the situation had finally kicked in for me as well.

They're here.

They're going to rampage the city that holds the people I love. What if one of those monsters kills Krista? What if I'm unable to stop them and they go after the rest of the world, what of my family?

I can't let that happen.

I must go.

Before I had even realised it I had already started moving. But a tug on my arm turned me around.

The look on her face, it's like she didn't even recognise the person she was looking at. I don't know what kind of distorted, corrupt expression I wore on my face but from her reaction, it couldn't have been a pleasant sight. But it did drag me back into reality.

"I'm sorry Krista, I have to go."

The tugging didn't stop

"Where are you going? George this makes no sense, where could you possibly be running off to on your ow-"

"LET ME GO!" She jolted back, what have I done?

"I'm sorry I- I wish I could explain... and I will... But for now, there's something I need to do."

Without a word she let go. It was a horrible feeling. But I can't let her die.

I ran, as far as I could from any crowd; into a quiet alleyway away from the chaos of the city centre.

I closed my eyes and breathed slowly.

I'm not fully sure how the power works yet, but what I do know is that I need to have a clear mind.

I felt warmth envelop my body. Like a warm breeze stroking my entire surface area I felt like I was in another world.

I opened my eyes with a clear purpose in mind.

I lifted off towards the ship. I wanted to gage its intentions. It seemed to have a reason for being here; if they wanted to invade, they wouldn't keep sending a single ship at a time in random points across the planet. They're either looking for something or possibly, trying to test our resistance?

What happened next was something I would never have predicted. It let out a low mechanical howl, rotated its large metal carcass and took off.

Is that it then?

Oh well I guess thats tha-

WHAT ARE YOU DOING!?

"Arghh..."

ARE YOU JUST GOING TO LET THEM GO?

My head felt as though it was going to split wide open. A cold tingle engulfed my entire body. It felt as though I had no control over anything. My muscles tensed solid, my bones had become rigid and my brain felt like mush. I couldn't even think.

WHAT IF THEY COME BACK?

WHAT IF THEY KILL KRISTA?

YOUR MOTHER?

YOUR FATHER?

YOUR SISTER?

AND DESTROY...

EVERYTHING.

They were right. I knew that voice, they're the one who allowed me to take back control of my life. The one who gave me the power to protect the ones I love.

They were, what we would probably call them, God.

I gathered my resolve and gave chase.

Once I left the atmosphere, I lost the ship.

But what I did find was a vast black sea, full of stars and for each star in the deep black ocean, there was an accompanying ship facing right at me. Sizes a plenty, from large cruisers to heavily armoured destroyers and plentiful small fighters – I was always fond of Sci-Fi warfare fiction – As if to signal to me that they were awaiting my arrival.

Is this real life? This looks like something out of a movie. A whole fleet, no; that undermines the sheer multitude of weaponry in front of me. This is an armada, weaponry far beyond the capabilities that earth could muster. If they wanted to invade – if they wanted to destroy us – they could do it within an instant.

In the corner of my eye approached a (more appropriate use of the term) fleet of small fighters heading straight my way.

I must take the fight to them, send a message that they should never come back. But I need to be careful if I leave too much debris orbiting the planet, that could cause catastrophic effects. I need to keep the battle as far away from orbit as possible.

I launched myself straight towards them, on the way, ramming straight through as many fighters as possible, leaving them with very little resemblance to their original form. Then hopefully, as a final message, I grabbed one of the fighters, spiralling it around in a circle, trying to build up as much momentum as possible and catapulted it straight into one of the cruisers. Smoke overwhelmed the region of the ship that took the impact, so it was impossible to tell whether it did any damage to the ship's hull.

However, a bright light cut through the smoke.

I couldn't tell what it was coming from, hopefully it was fire.

I squinted my eyes. Can fire even start in space? Before I could ponder my own question, the light shot with immense speed towards me and unable to muster a reaction in time, an impossible force sent me barrelling straight towards the moon behind me.

I was immerged in a crater of my own creation, assisted by the ships armament that assaulted me, I was unable to move and unable to think straight.

"Hey George, get over here."

I heard a voice in my head.

Is my life flashing before my eyes?

I closed my tired eyes, falling into a sea of black.
