The second step was to plant explosives in the four other districts, leaving the Fourth Pillar untouched, and detonate them after playing the fake recording, selling on the idea of the gang's betrayal.

Sons of Khar'shan, and wasn't that a well-thought-out name, was his first target, knowing their weapon smuggling business, and the target was their armory; a single explosive would trigger a chain reaction and cause maximum damage.

"Stop." A Batarian guard at the entrance to the district stopped him and only lived due to the fact Shepard needed to get in without a problem.

"What is your business here?" The guard asked in that growling tone the Batarians did.

"Your gang sells weapons; I am here to buy weapons."

"How much?"

"Enough for a raid."

"Get in, head to the red building at the end; that's where the sales happen."

Shepard moved in with a nod, observing the district as he went in.

The roads twisted like a snake, greatly increasing the distance someone had to walk to get there, all as a security measure. The buildings had defensive positions at the top with troops stationed, some snipers, others with heavy weapons. It would be hell for anyone assaulting the place.

Shepard finally made it to the end and approached the building, which was guarded by two heavy machine gun encampments behind a thick metal barrier.

It was used as a gang HQ and weapons warehouse.

Getting inside was easy when you wanted to buy enough weapons and relevant military hardware to arm two battalions. The Batarian he met was suspicious when Shepard refused to remove his helmet, but a flash of his SIU ID convinced the four-eyed pirate to not ask too many questions.

He took Shepard to demonstrate the weapons first and then on a small tour of the armory, where he discreetly planted one of the explosives behind a crate containing more explosives.

With the empty promise of buying more than half their stock and a small down payment, which Shepard was going to retrieve later, he made his way to the next district.

The Brotherhood of Kalen, named after their famed founder, was in the drug business; if it had a value and there was a market, then they sold it. From red sand to everything else imaginable, they made good credit out of it, especially as their production facilities were located on Torfan.

Surrounded by guards and a crap ton of security measures, getting there wasn't going to be easy, but then again, he just needed to get the explosives inside.

Observing the place, he noticed that the hovercarts they used to carry product weren't scanned, which meant if he could plant the explosive charge under one of them, Shepard could smuggle it inside without lifting a finger.

Paying a group of Batarians to start a fight with another to halt the latest convoy, Shepard used the distraction to plant the explosive under the cart and left as quickly as he had come.

The third district belonged to several smaller groups that came together with a variety of illegal occupations. They were a loose group, and the security was lacking, though they didn't also have a concrete target to hit like the other two, so Shepard opted to plant the charge in one of the gang bases and left for the dump.

It was a walk in the park; nobody cared about who you were as long as you didn't draw attention, and Shepard was a master of stealth. Dropping the bomb in a shop, he left for the auction center in the market.

Walking in for the next set of auctions like a customer, Shepard was stopped at the door.

"You have to leave the weapons, and we need to see if you have the credits." A guard said, and seeing as everyone else was leaving their weapons in the lockers, Shepard did as well after flashing them his credit balance, which widened their eyes.

Being unarmed, Shepard knew he had to be more careful here.

"Where is the toilet?" He asked the guard before going in.

"Second floor, follow the signs."

Navigating through a sea of people who came for the auctions, Shepard walked up to the second floor, memorizing the location of the guards, cameras, exits, and security measures.

Entrance to the third floor was strictly guarded with an ID scanner and two guards at the door, which meant something important was up there, and seeing as the security room wasn't on the first two floors, Shepard figured there was no harm in taking a look.

A Batarian came out, and the guards at the door stood at attention, and Shepard figured out his way in. Hiding between the pirates, he moved with precision and tripped one of the Batarians right on his target, causing a commotion.

"You fool, watch where you are going." The gangster shouted, pushing the other Batarian off.

Unwilling to let it slide, the other alien pushed back, and soon enough they were at each other's throats.

Shepard, ever the diplomat, pulled the two apart, gripping his target's wrist where the omni-tool was.

"Stop acting like pyjaks and get going," he growled, watching from the corner of his eye as the two guards cut through the crowd to get to their boss. Leaving them, Shepard sneaked past the distracted guards and let the machine scan his ID. Quickly entering through the door while the cameras were focused on the commotion, he made his way up.

The third floor was practically empty compared to the first and the second floors, and finding his way was much easier.

The security room, where the PA system was controlled, required ID as well, and Shepard was on the move as soon as the door opened.

"Have you gotten our food yet?" One of the two Batarians on the console turned around on his chair before he was gurgling with an omni-blade lodged in his throat. The other came out of his shock quickly and tried to sound the alarm, but Shepard just slammed his head on the console twice before stomping his face.

Sitting on the chair after throwing the dead Batarian aside, Shepard played the recording for the whole of Torfan to hear.

By many, Torfan was seen as the bastion of piracy in the Skyllian Verge, not because it was impenetrable, but because taking it would inflict heavy casualties on any aggressors.

With a buzz of static, the PA system came to life. Thinking it was about the auctions, many did not care, as they didn't have the credits to even get in.

"Can't believe the Alliance is paying us a decade's worth of credits just to sell Torfan out."

"Yeah, even they knew it's just not possible to take Torfan that simply."

"All their talk about eradicating pirate presence, and here they are paying the Fourth Pillars enough for everyone to retire comfortably."

"Boss is going to love our surprise, especially when we blow up the weapon storage of the Sons."

There was a silence for a couple of seconds on Torfan, as everyone just stopped, not believing what they heard.

On cue, explosives rang out across all the districts, one so loud and powerful it sent shockwaves reverberating through the air. Shouts of "Traitors!" rang out through Torfan, as everyone but the Fourth Pillars thought the strongest gang in the pirate haven had sold the rest out.

Sons of Khar'shan, having suffered the greatest damage, did not hesitate before attacking the Fourth Pillars with prejudice, using what weapons they had left. The rest of the moon followed the trend, and in less than half an hour a full-on gang war was happening.

Shepard, once seeing that the violence was on full blast, made his way to the second floor, which was emptied with the guard at full alert. Once they saw him and realized he had no business being up there, they tried to take him down, but Shepard stabbed the first one's weapon with his omni-blade and elbowed the other in the throat and took his gun, shooting him by putting the rifle right under his chin before firing it till the weapon overheated on the other.

Checking them for equipment, which they had none other than the rifles, Shepard hurried to the locker where he had left his weapons.

The second floor was riddled with corpses, as well as the first floor, and he could still hear the weapons fire outside the building.

He observed the outside before taking his weapons from the locker. Gang violence was focused on the Fourth Pillar's district, but that didn't mean the way back to the ventilation shaft was safe.

Looters and other opportunists were out to make the best of the situation and targeted everyone they saw, which included Shepard. Three Batarians that were looting a body saw him and turned to open fire but went flying away as Shepard biotic charged right in the middle.

They had no shields and didn't bother to protect their faces, a fatal mistake as three shots rang out, putting a hole right in the middle of their faces.

Two groups were fighting ahead, and the way forward was right between them, which meant if he tried to pass, he would be under crossfire. Taking out his rocket launcher, he threw a volley of grenades at one group and a singularity at the other group and shot the floating Batarians with a single rocket.

Further down the road, someone had an APC and was firing at a building, which returned sporadic fires from several floors. Shepard bolted towards the vehicle and slid as the barrel turned to fire at him, feeling the mass effect rounds leave a trail on the ground behind him. Holding on to the barrel as it stopped firing, Shepard slipped a grenade inside, and the sensors in the vehicle blared while he climbed on top.

The top hatch opened, and a Batarian hurried to get out before Shepard held him by the head and pulled him out, snapping his neck and letting the corpse fall.

Pulling the grenade out, as he had not primed it, Shepard got on the vehicle and drove straight to the life support area, ignoring the fighting around him, while still having to dodge heavy fire.

Someone had set up a barricade in front of the entrance, and they opened fire when it became evident the APC wasn't going to stop. Shepard shook on his seat as the barricades went flying off while he opened fire, turning a dozen Batarians to pincushions.

Parking the vehicle to cover the door while he went in, Shepard found stiff resistance when he checked around the corner.

Taking a deep breath, he spied several deuterium canisters and readied his rocket launcher.

Using his biotics, he threw one canister right in the middle of the entrenched Batarians and shot it with a rocket, causing a loud explosion that threw several Batarians away like ragdolls.

This drew attention as more Batarians surged out of the various rooms, opening fire on Shepard's position. Firing a rocket to suspend the fire for a second, he threw another canister straight to a Batarian, knocking him down, before another rocket blew it up, killing more.

Shepard didn't want this fight to drag out, so with a biotic mastery few humans could boast, he threw all the canisters down the corridor, a single shot triggering a chain explosion that shook the room and blew something important enough to start a fire.

He ran through the fire and explosions, heading to the room he had entered through the shaft. Quickly climbing up, Shepard tied the ropes and began to pull himself back to the exit as fast as he could.

Minutes ticked away before the bumpy ride came to an end. Strapping his half-full oxygen tank back, Shepard repelled down the way he climbed up. Walking up to the pod, he sent the radio burst to let the Alliance know he was finished, while Shepard went inside to rest.

"Admiral Hackett, we received the signal from Commander Shepard's pod."

"Good, all hands prepare to commence the second part of the operation." Steven Hackett smiled.

Shepard struck once again.
