Silas did not announce his departure.
There was no need for witnesses, no reason to draw attention to where he was going or why. The unrest in the pack had already begun to spread faster than he would have liked, and the last thing he needed was for anyone to see uncertainty in him.
So he left quietly.
The deeper parts of the forest did not welcome him.
They never had.
The air shifted the further he moved, growing heavier, colder in a way that had nothing to do with the unnatural frost that had taken over his lands. This cold was older, thicker, pressing against his skin like something aware of his presence, something that did not care for it.
