The prison set felt like the real thing—cold metal, dim lights, and rows of iron bars. Today they were shooting Star-Lord's first day behind bars. Two brutal setups: getting zapped with a stun baton for demanding his Walkman back, and the mandatory disinfectant shower that would blast him with red-tinted water.
Cassius showed up early. He watched the shower rig get tested—high-pressure nozzles and a big fan behind the bars.
"Water pressure's controlled but it still hits hard," the effects coordinator warned. "It's cold. You'll do a few takes. Just sell the shock and the ridiculousness."
"No problem."
He moved on to the stun-baton rehearsal. The prop looked nasty—loud crack, bright blue arc—but the actual current was low. The big stunt guy playing the guard, Karl, ran through the timing with him.
First take: electroshock.
Cassius slipped straight into Peter Quill mode. He yelled at the guard's back, voice full of that cocky, pissed-off energy. "Hey! You got any rules around here? That's my Walkman! My mom left it for me! It goes in the property locker, not in some blue-skinned asshole's pocket!"
Karl spun around, stun baton already sparking. Cassius stepped back half a pace but kept talking shit—then the baton slammed into his side.
His whole body locked up. Eyes wide, mouth open in a silent scream, then he dropped hard onto the mat, twitching and gasping like he'd been hit by lightning. The convulsions looked ugly and real.
"Cut!"
Gunn clapped. "Perfect! That timing and the facial shift—spot on. Karl, great work. We're keeping it."
Cassius sat up, rubbing the spot. Karl gave him a thumbs-up. "Reaction was killer, brother. Easy to work with."

Next: the disinfectant wash.
Cassius stripped down to just shorts. Makeup dusted him with grime so he looked properly broken. A couple of female crew members did a double-take at the lean, cut physique months of training had carved.
"Quiet on set! Water ready! Actor ready!"
"Action!"
He stood in the cage, head low, still feeling the phantom pain from the shock. Then the nozzles fired.
The blast hit like a freight train. Cassius slammed backward into the bars with a loud clang, water hammering his back and legs, turning his shorts see-through in seconds. Red disinfectant streamed down his tight muscles in glowing rivulets. He grabbed the bars, body shaking uncontrollably, face twisted in pure misery.
"Cut!!!"
Gunn came running over, beaming. "That was it! The slam into the wall, the fingers on the bars—perfect! You looked like the prison just taught Peter a hard lesson."
A crew guy rushed up with towels, looking guilty. "Sorry, Cass—the pressure was a little high. You okay?"
Cassius wiped his face, teeth chattering but grinning. "I'm good. At least I don't have to fake the shaking now."

More golden orbs dropped. Cassius absorbed them under the towel, shivering but satisfied.
After a hot shower he felt human again. Dave was scrolling his phone, laughing.
"Check this out." He turned the screen. A behind-the-scenes shot of Cassius getting blasted against the bars, caption: "Star-Lord's prison life looks rough… @Cassius need me to break you out? #GuardiansOfTheGalaxy #SetLife"
Cassius laughed and reposted it. "Thanks, big guy. Pretty sure they're just jealous of the Walkman. #KylnPrison"
The playful back-and-forth lit up the fandom. The Guardians PR team quietly nodded in approval.
Zoe walked over, most of the green makeup gone, looking tired but amused. "Still breathing?"
"Barely."
Guardians' London shoot wrapped for now. Short break. Cassius flew back to LA.
Not for vacation. The 85th Academy Awards Nominees Luncheon was happening at the Beverly Hilton.
He was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for playing Peeta in The Hunger Games. The news had been huge months ago, but the Warner drama and Marvel deal had pushed it to the background. Still—Oscar nomination. That meant something.
Rob had told him to relax. "It's just lunch and photos. You're a Marvel lead and an Oscar nominee now. Nobody's gonna bring up the Warner shit in that room."
Kristen was going with him. They hadn't seen each other in months.
The day was bright and warm. Cassius wore a navy tailored suit, no tie, top button open. He walked into the glittering ballroom and was immediately surrounded by the low hum of Hollywood power—laughter, clinking glasses, expensive perfume.
Jennifer Lawrence was holding court in a simple white dress. Anne Hathaway stood nearby in black, talking with Spielberg. The air felt electric.
"Cass!"
Vin Diesel's booming voice cut through. He and Paul Walker were heading straight for him, both grinning.
"Vin! Paul!"
They bumped fists. Vin was voicing Groot but hadn't started recording yet.
"How was London?" Vin clapped his shoulder.
"I'm practicing different ways to say 'I am Groot' every day."
Paul handed him a soda. "Congrats on the nomination, man. We were just saying—trying to book dinner with you now takes three months."
"Stop." Cassius laughed. "Your schedules are worse than mine."
"Family doesn't need to schedule," Vin said, then lowered his voice. "Heard your girl's here too?"
Before Cassius could answer, a light touch on his arm made him turn.
Kristen stood there in a silver cropped jacket and black pants, hair a little shorter, eyes soft with missing him. They'd been official for a while, but the long distance had added a fresh spark.
"Hey, boyfriend."
"Hey, girlfriend." He kissed her forehead without thinking. She leaned into it, warm and familiar.
"Rough couple months in England?"
"Alien prison life is no joke—even for Star-Lord."
Kristen smiled. "I saw the reports. New movie's doing well?"
"Director's a control freak, but the script's strong. What about you, Oscar nominee? How's it feel?"
"This soda's slightly better than the ones at other victory parties."
She laughed, and he felt the months apart melt a little.
Jennifer Lawrence appeared with Jessica Chastain, both holding champagne. "Well, look who it is—our Peeta and Bella!"
They hugged and cheek-kissed. Jennifer's tone carried that signature blunt edge. "I was just telling Jessica—you clawed your way out of the Warner mess, jumped straight into Marvel, and now you're standing here like nothing happened. This plot is crazier than Hunger Games."
"How's the galaxy treating you, Star-Lord?"
"Still not eaten by aliens."
"You?" Cassius grinned. "Heard you shut down another reporter."
"The guy asked if winning an Oscar meant I could do whatever I want. I said the next step was robbing a bank. He shut up."
Everyone laughed.
Jessica added, "Congrats on the nomination, Cass. Peeta was really memorable."
"Thanks. Your Zero Dark Thirty work was the one that hit hard."
They kept it real—no fake compliments.
Across the room Anne Hathaway caught his eye and gave a small nod. He raised his glass. The Interstellar drama had paused their possible collaboration, but the respect from training together was still there.
"Ang Lee's here too," Kristen whispered. "For Life of Pi."
Hugh Jackman and Daniel Day-Lewis stood near the dessert table, the two frontrunners for Best Actor. Hugh noticed Cassius and gave a friendly smile and a little wave with his glass. Cassius smiled back.
Then he spotted Matt Damon talking to a producer. Their eyes met for a second. Matt gave a neutral nod and raised his glass, then turned back to his conversation.
They'd trained together briefly in Iceland. Not friends, but not enemies either.
The room buzzed with power, ambition, and the quiet understanding that everyone here had survived the same brutal game.
Cassius took a sip of his soda and smiled at Kristen.
For the first time in months, he felt like he actually belonged at the table.
