Dante began ticking the arguments with his fingers. "I am the eldest and hold the highest rank among us. Adrian has the best diplomatic skills for handling delicate family situations. Lucien is the most naturally approachable for human families who might be suspicious of vampire formality."
Adrian leaned back slightly. "So naturally, we drew straws like mature adults," he finished, and this time he didn't bother hiding his smile.
"I hate you all," Lilian laughed, unable to fight it any longer. "This is insane."
"This is simply what happens when vampire nobility meeting human bureaucracy," Dante replied evenly, lifting one of the marriage certificates from the table. "It is always a mess. We've simply learned to adapt."
He handed her the document. The paper was heavy and expensive, embossed with official-looking seals.
