"So..." I croaked out, my voice raspy and muffled by her hands still squishing my cheeks, "...am I forgiven, sister?"
Seraphina narrowed her eyes at me, her cheeks puffing out as she gave my face one last aggressive squeeze before finally letting go. I rubbed my jaw, wincing at the lingering sting, but I didn't dare complain. Not after everything I'd put her through.
Fifteen years of secrets had earned me at least this much punishment, and probably a great deal more. I could still see the exhaustion carved into the corners of her eyes, the kind that came from sleepless nights spent wondering why her best friend had drifted so far away.
