Rose's Point Of View
"If you're hallucinating, Rose," Mason whispered back, his voice completely breathless with shock, "then we're sharing the exact same delusion. Because I think our boss just got hit."
I stared. I literally just stared, my mouth hanging open in a way that would have embarrassed me under any other circumstances. Somewhere in the back of my mind, a small, hysterical voice reminded me that I probably looked like a fish gasping for air, but I couldn't have cared less.
My whole body had gone rigid, frozen in place as though moving even an inch might shatter whatever fragile reality was holding this moment together.
My brain refused to compute the data coming through my eyes. The math was not mathing. The physics of reality were falling completely apart right in front of my face, and no amount of blinking seemed capable of fixing it.
