Chapter 18 - Through the Veil of Shadows

PSI sank into the deep cloud. Inside the clouds there is this vividly seen inventory door deep into the clouds.

He slowly falls into his inventory. PSI's face was full of veins, his blood pressure increased… his heart beating like a drum… his hands shivered as he opened his eyes that were bleeding blood.

He forced his numb legs and hands as if he was swimming to the next inventory door that was just centimeters away.

Crawling to the door he finally reached it with his index finger. When his index finger touched the door it threw out PSI forcibly… as if it was spitting him out of its mouth.

The moment he got out he didn't realize it. But he was actually setting a trap… when the shadow goblin went down to check on PSI he used his inventory to appear right behind the light goblin.

He expected it to work but…

He had already reached his limits in traveling between the doors. That's why this time he made a voice… And even bleeding as he jumped out, fidgeting…

The light goblin turned around with a light spear. PSI stared as the light goblin sprinted forward while turning around to stab his heart with the spear.

Even if it was for a second, PSI instinctively threw the inventory door right in the face of the goblin, not knowing he could actually embody it.

Another mechanism learned.

PSI was fidgeting while noticing that this body is more than just human… while being completely defenseless. The light goblin jumped on him with a light explosion right in his hands.

The light goblin stepped back jumping and bent forward while outstretching his hand and two strands of light bulb explosions formed a ladder that started from the ground to his hand.

The light beamed as it jumped out from the ground to his hand and to the sky and it all got absorbed by the light. The goblin slid right in front of him and stabbed PSI with both his hands…

While exploding the light ladder explosion.

But it just turned out that… his hands just got cut off and disappeared.

PSI's new mechanism is that he is actually the true door to his ultimate inventory. Whatever touches his body will feel like a ghost, passing through his body only to end up in the inventory.

The white goblin's hand got stuck as PSI closed the door off his body. It cut off his hands and stored them in.

PSI smiled, leaning backward, staring at the sky… "Unbelievable… Unbelievable, I'm unbeatable…"

The light goblin screamed with rage, his hands bleeding blood… "My divine hands! Haaaa! My godly blood! How dare you, human, how dare you, how dare you… My godly haaaanddddsss!"

PSI didn't care, mesmerized about how he kept going until the last moment… He stayed fighting for a month… More than a month without a single rest.

PSI screamed like a maniac on adrenaline. "I fought and fought to the… I fought and fought and fought and fought and fought and fought and fought and fought and fought and fought and fought to finally see I can still fight… even with all the limitations… Even with all the pain… With all the dying… With all the blood, with all the tragedy, with all expressionless days… Yes, I am PSI… I walk through a pathless path…" He gazed at the ground tilting his head while smirking. The light goblin's hands jumped off PSI's chest as if they actually jumped off.

It passed through the light goblin's head. The light goblin stared at his hands flying up in the sky straight to his head.

While PSI finished his speech full of noradrenaline boost saying, "I'm PSI. Who are you? Who are you?"

He thrust his hand right into the goblin's neck. The goblin was staring at the sky while his cut-off hands were flying down from the sky.

His neck was wide open. Part of the goblin's neck… PSI's hand's size to be precise, was stored in his inventory.

The shadow goblin, flabbergasted, frowned from seeing the light goblin's hands fall off the sky.

Going all berserk mode as soon as he turned around…

His eyes fixated on a single point. In the unending world… He saw the light goblin's head fall off as the head cried and smiled.

For the first time in history a goblin went berserk with their own intention while still having their thoughts and actions linger in their brain.

All that happened is that the shadow goblin got an immense amount of power surging through him.

The shadow goblin's eyes bled darkness, tears like spilled ink on a page. "Why… why did you have to kill us? No… why him? We could have talked!"

PSI watched him. The goblin's aura was swelling, a storm of pure emotion making him stronger even as his mind fell apart. A predictable weakness.

He let out a sigh that held the weight of nonstop war.

"You think this is about killing," PSI said, his voice flat. "You think there are two kinds of people: those who live for themselves, and those who die for others."

He took a single step forward, the ground silent beneath him.

"I am neither. I don't hate you. I don't like you. It's just a fact: you stood on the path I have to walk. So I walked through you."

The shadow goblin knelt on the ground moaning and fidgeting.

"You know that almost all of us have kids… You know that we have a family waiting for us."

PSI paused with an expressionless face. "And does that change the fact that you guys weren't going to kill me…"

The shadow goblin's eyes widened, his hands violently trembling, and said with a sheer tone, "It's because we have no control over ourselves… We are just pawns."

PSI stood with an expressionless face and added, "So that's how it is. It's not like I didn't recognize it before… I'm actually helping you all by killing you…" PSI turned his face down, gazing at the ground where the goblin king sat. "I'm helping him, aren't I… Such a shame."

The shadow goblin got angry and responded, "I might as well die fighting like my dead friends…"

"They called me the king of shadows for a reason…"

PSI saw the shadow goblin kneeling in the sky right in front of him as the shadow goblin's skin all scattered off his body…

PSI stepped back and kept a keen eye on the berserk-mode goblin in front of him. With a cunning look, PSI thought, 'They are always ready to blabber and die. I mean, no matter how good his berserk mode might be, he is obviously gonna die unless… Yeah maybe he actually means it. As expected. I knew it.'

PSI stretched his back. The shadow goblin flashed.

A shadow goblin was able to draw shadows even on top of light. The whole shadows rained like a rushing rain. The ground was splashing dark liquid which appeared to be shadow.

The clouds turned dark for PSI's eyes; it was the same as dying a wall. The sky suddenly went black.

The shadow goblin flashed to PSI. PSI noticed he was moving too fast. Unlike the other goblins, he saw PSI noticed it was more of a splendid disguise for the shadow goblin to cover the lights.

In the end, PSI didn't just see the shadow goblin sprint straight forward; the ground formed shadows that looked exactly the same as the goblin.

PSI was sure the shadow goblin was now the same as the pawns he just created. PSI stared at the shadow goblin's feet. Each shadow goblin's feet had already blended with the liquid-like shadow. A moment later, a sudden punch went through the shadows and landed on PSI's jaw.

PSI got blown back by the jump as he carefully analyzed the situation. In that split moment, PSI saw a solid shadow punch which was the actual punch just punching him.

But he never knew how. If it's a solid shadow, then how come all the shadows blended with the liquid-like shadows on the ground? There is a way where the shadow goblin attacks and disappears in the shadows while letting his pawns take over.

PSI got another attack from behind with a kick on his knee. His knee bent forward as he got another punch from the front sending him to stand up with an uppercut.

PSI gripped his fists and covered his face like a pro boxer. Seeing as how he was getting beat up, he would have never been able to solve the problem…

PSI said, "Wait, why do I feel like I forgot something… Hmm… What the hell was it." PSI suddenly went blind to the situation while jumping straight into his thoughts.

The moment of the horrifying truth that he is just on a mere speculation lets him on the worst side of the battle. Where it clearly means that if you don't know the rules, you're out of the game; you're only a sacrifice for it.

But PSI thought maybe it was for this reason that he felt like he forgot something. It was him… yes… he forgot that shithead.

The true original body owner named Eugene. PSI's eyes widened with his jaw falling off and said, "Did I maybe forget about the quest as well? Damn it… Eugene, where the hell are you?"

Eugene appeared right in front of him with a restriction talisman on his mouth. PSI saw that and said, "Who put that on you? Why can't you speak… I need help, let's wrap this up."

Eugene signaled that PSI should out loud say unmute. PSI knew it but kept on annoying him for a reason. It was to make him feel smarter when PSI used his battle IQ not from experience but pure understanding. Since fighting nonstop for a month isn't plausible for fighting such high-level goblins compared to who he was fighting with.

In the end, PSI said out loud, "Unmute," which led Eugene, the nerd, into thoughts like 'Is he really the same inventory user genius for real? Can't even get a sign, not even a little hint… in the middle of a fierce battle… Haaa, no way.'

PSI smiled at him with a dumb face and said, "I might not be around once I finish these quests, so how about you switch and get used to your new body and power… You don't need to experience what I experienced to fight. We are considered the same person. Plus you already figured out the shadow goblin's techniques, so why not do it…"

Suddenly, a sharp hand stabbed PSI in the heart. Choking while smirking, he said, "You only have one life left, don't ruin it."
