Chapter 4 - Roar at the door

My mind can't take much more of this. After that deafening roar the two giants charged at each the bald one flinging cars everywhere. One if which cones fly straight into the subway entrance.

"Fuck!" I yelled, "our exit is blocked!"

"I ain't blind, we all see that big ass SUV crammed in there," yells the guy I've been calling Rami in my head.

"Just a matter of time before one or those heads our way!" Yells D as we stood staring at our hope out of this situation.

"As I see it we got 3 options, stand around like these fools," I say as i jerk my thumb at some onlookers. "And gawk like it is some sort of movie, try to push pass them, or find some shelter in one of these buildings."

"We're not getting too far trying ro push our way out," D says as he stares at the packed cars and crowd.

"I don't think these buildings offer much shelter primo. They just destroyed one like it was nothing," Rico says wide eyes as he points at the green giant getting up from the rubble of buildings.

"Well anyone got any better ideas? That bald one was rampaging before the green one started trying to pummel his face in so in the off chance the green one loses...." I say, looking around for a way out. As I do I keep an eye on the dueling giants that are getting closer as time passes.

"There's a broken door we can get in easy, I"m sure if we don't touch anything it would be okay" said Lorena.

"Are you crazy? That's thay fancy jewelry store, they even made it look like they have gold on the ceiling," replied D recognizing the windowless building.

"Well tben, it would be a good place to shelter. They should have invested in a good security to stay open in Harlem," said the girl I've been calling Kournikova.

"Better than nothin'," Rico says as he leads the way as we make our way through the cars and crowd.

We make our way inside, I'm a little puzzled as we funnel in with everyone just freezing up. I get in and turn and I see why. There are three people on the floor as far as I can see with the guard bleeding from a gun shot wound on hjs shoulder. 2 guys had their back turned didn't even notice us coming in as they seemed preoccupied whispering to one another.

Then came the scream, followed by a gunshot. I turn and see Rico in shock holding Lorena as they both sink onto the ground. Lorena is clutching her abdomen and blood is starting to soak up her blouse. I stare at the brother and sister in shock as the robbers scream at us guns pointed.

"Get on the floor! How the hell did you get in? Get on the fucking floor!"

We comply too shocked to do anything while Rico holds Lorena.

"Christ! You just shot a kid!"

" How the hell are we getting out now"

D seems to snap awake first while on the floor he replies a little bit shakily, "the door is busted. There are two giants fighting, it's chaos outside nobody will notice two more people."

The two masked robbers seemed to have a concersation before coming to a decision to high tailed it out of their bags in tow. I barely registered it, my attention was on Lorena. Before I knew it I was beside her resting my hand on her abdomen, staring into her eyes. Rico seemed to be mumbling something and Lorena had a hitch in her breath. Something seemed to pour out of me, and as it did memories flooded. Fine details that I could vaguely remember from my past life came more easily now. I even remember what happened in between, and why James is such a good friend and tried to get me out of Harlem tonight. Above all else I am Elixir, and I am healing my friend. I figure out that I'm pouring life into her and using my biokinisis pushing out the bullet with her mass and simultaneously repairing the damage.

My friends stare at me, and look at Lorena, then back at me.

"That was smazing, and you match the ceiling now!" Say the girl I've been calling Singh in my head.

I get up and start heading towards the wounded guard. Only to be yelled at, "get away from me you freak! I don't care if you think you're healing people I'm not havin' any of it? You hear? Don't fuckin' touch me!"

The room starts coming back alive as everyone starts picking themselves up. I feel a tug on my sleeve I turn to see Rico saying "thank you, I don't know what I would have done it we lost her. we should go, we ain't welfcome here."

I also notice the hatred in the ex hostages faces, all too familiar with it. We make our exit as we ensure Lorena is okay to keep going. We seem to implicitly agree on finding a place with less people. Maybe it's the experience of being a minority (well I was one in my past life at least), but we tried to blend in while sinultaneously trying to find even an alleyway to get away from the crowd.

Everyone was too busy watching the foght to pay attention to our group. The few that scrutinized me was too shocked to really do anything before we moved on. I saw a few injured which we stopped to help just grateful faces afterwards. We eventually get to an alleyway and get a moment to catch our breath. It wasn't long until we heard a voice.

"Caliban, are you sure it's this way? We are getting a little too close to that crowd."
