Chapter 12 - Long live the pioneers

Rebels and mutineers, that's how Ihow I remember the Murlocks, maybe even terrorists. Callisto at some point even kidnapped Angel and forced a marraige, not out of love, but to possess "the most beautiful man in the world" because "every princess must have a prince". Here I dont know how, but she struck me as more introspective and wanting the best for her people. I hope the first impression proved to be true.

Those were my thoughts as I headed to James's place, as Mrs. McEwen asked me to stop by. The reason turned out that she was reminded of telepathic intrusions because of training this morning. She crafted 4 talismans for us to prevent it, she presented it to me as a plain silver necklace. If I looked carefully there were runes erched on the tiny chain links that maid the necklace. She said we could add our own charms to it in the future and it should serve well. The talisman itself wasn't very strong, mostly serving to alert us on subtle mental intrusions as the McEwens, and by way of skill aquistion now me, are well versed in repelling mental intruders as as long as they know they are there. It did also serve as a defense on light probes. Handy considering I don't actually know who and what powers they have access to in this meeting.

I headed to the spot I was told to meet Blink, a well known crack den. Well it was, apparantly the Murlocks had cleared it out ages ago and just kept up appearances with their more human looking members. I'm glad they don't actually sell the drugs, nor do they tolerate it, because if they did I wouldn't have anything to do with these guys. As I got close I made sure to turn back to gold,

When I got there I was surprised to see Rico, Lorena, Darius, Ivanna, Sheetal, and Bassem (the whole group from the last night). Blink was there eating ice cream with Rico sitting very close to each other. Rico is a pretty handsome dude, kinda reminds me of Luis Fonsi, but because he comes off as a playboy he has always been single for as long as I've known him. His overt flirting methods don't help his cause much either. So when I say I was shocked it is quite the understatement. I mean it's shocking enough they're all here invited and talking to everyone the Murlocks like they've been friends all this time, another to see Rico's "charm" actually working.

"Well, well aren't you the renegades hanging out in a crack house." I say amused that they didn't even notice me.

They turn and blinking as they saw me for the first time.

"You're late," said Blink. "The meeting is just about to start."

"A wizard is never late. Nor is he early. He arrives precisely when he means to. I didn't want to wait," I lied not wanting to give away information about picking up the talisman.

"Nerd!" Joked Lorena.

"Hey you recognized it that makes you one too," joked D.

"As much as I'm curious what you're all talking about we don't have time for this," Blink said as she opens a portal.

I step through the portal and see even more people than last time, and instinctively went into offensive mode my skin changing into a chromatic black. That raised a few eyesbrows as they had no idea what it meant just odd to see a golden boy change skin colors all of a sudden.

I calm myself and ask as my friends join me, "What's with all the people?"

"There are many that are intrigued by what you had to say previously. Some are here to learn about how exactly you would go about with what you proposed others want to hear the direction of the group going forward," said Callisto.

I feel a strange gaze at me, the kind that my instincts place as off no idea where I got those skills from. Still, I follow it to a little girl staring wide eyed, strange why would she look at me like that? I'm by far not the strangest looking one in the room, she does look a tad familiar. My mind starts processing faster than before and make a connection I would have never done so before. Sage, that was the only possible reason or at least someone with her powers. How could I forget her DNA perception? I love her character the same reason I love Prodigy she's wicked smart. I should have her DNA, and she is considered a pretty low level mutant. Her main power is her infinite memory storage and total recall. Her brain is basically a super computer. I'll need to integrate that power ASAP it compliments well with two of the powers I already have.

Those thoughts run through my head very quickly, it looks like Prodigy's powers are adapting my physiology to help keep up with it. The excess life force is probably helping speed up the process. Still, these connections aren't something I would normally deduce so quickly. I must have siphoned off someone else's expertise an ex detective or something?

Back to the matter at hand I respond saying, "I proposed nothing. I just questioned what future I would have with the Murlocks. I asked how you plan to have a future when you have no infastructure other than hunting stray animals, rodents, and raiding stores for supplies."

"What about what you said about mushrooms and cheese?"

I could feel a headache coming on, a whole nation of mutants is not something I thought I would have to deal with. I mentioned those things because I love cozy games and thought I could help with farming and such, but I can't really just admit that I wanted to have a small piece of the life I gave up could I?
