WHAT POWER CANNOT DO
Selene's POV
We were twenty minutes from Silver Creek territory when the border call came.
The Adra Venn visit had been planned for early morning — quiet roads, small team, the same controlled approach that had worked at Red Moon. Cade was driving. Maren had asked to come, and I had said yes without fully examining why, some instinct about having her present when the last piece of my mother's network finally closed its circle.
The call came through at 0740.
Ronan's voice, stripped to its tactical register — the one with no texture in it, just information moving as fast as it could.
"Eastern border. They've crossed. Not scouts — the full formation. Both positions moving simultaneously, coordinated entry, estimated sixty wolves." A pause that was not hesitation but the compression of someone deciding what order to deliver the next information in. "They hit the eastern safe house first. Three of ours were inside."
"Status?" Damon said.
