Winter has become more and more cold, as the light of the sun gets further and further. The sun has set and the twilight has started. The cold crept through the air like a living thing, slipping between the trees and into the quiet streets.Cold wind slowly blew through the tree, the sound of silence on winter night, with just light poles glimmering the road. Eren, the boy who hates winter because of his sensitivity to cold, comes down to the living room to watch his shows.
He watches a movie that he has waited for so long to see, The Wintery Terror, he opens on his tv. He is alone because his parents have to work aboard for a couple of days, and have left him with enough money for him to buy food.
"This movie is going to be pretty scary at night, but I think it's worth watching", mumbling to himself.
"I think it would be good to order the pizza before the movie starts, so I can eat it in the middle of the movie. ", Eren thought to himself.
Eren closed all the lights to get the theater feeling. Then he ordered the pizza and set down his phone on the table and started watching the movie. He watches for 30 minutes and stops for a while to go to the bathroom.
The movie is about a young boy watching a movie all by himself, during winter. Where his parents work aboard for a couple of days. It's about a horror the boy faced at that night's movie.
After finishing with the bathroom and getting out of it, he feels the atmosphere is chilling a little by little. Because he doesn't like the cold, he tries to figure out what the problem is. He goes all over the place, to the door or windows that open but finds nothing. The cold start feels like the cold sense of grave, when he first goes to the graveyard.
He once attended his grandmother's death during the winter season. The chill pressed against his skin like the air of the graveyard, heavy and lifeless.
"Why do these feelings feel so familiar?"Eren wondered." What causes all of this, I am so confused, wait, the thermometer."
He goes to the house thermometer, and its power is off. Then he goes to the living room to see the tv also dead. But when he tries to open the light, it also does not turn on. He finally realized the power outage. The silence fell suddenly, thick as a blanket, broken only by the distant howl of the winter wind.
He wondered,"Why does the bathroom light not turn off when I am in there."," It might have happened, when I went out of the bathroom and started feeling this coldness.".
The atmosphere in the house was so dark and silent with the gloominess light of the moon and background sound of the winter winds. But Eren is not afraid of the feelings as if he has felt them before.
The cold starts to get into him, so he goes to his room to get warm clothes and tries to find a flashlight to use in the dark, but he doesn't find one as he forgot where it is. Eren then goes down to the living room and tries to call his parents but the network is not working.
He stays in the living room for 30 minutes, and he starts to feel sleepy which makes him think this is just a dream. But loud noise outside has made him curious. He sneaks out of the windows and sees a snow storm has come to the neighborhood.
"That's why the power was off, the snow storm has disturbed the electricity and the network. Haih! why does it have to come at a time like this?"He complained and started playing an offline game before he went to sleep.
The storm has gone so bad that it makes him think if the pizza he had ordered might have been canceled. He once again goes to the windows to sneak outside. On the way to the windows he feels the sudden breeze blow at him. He starts to shiver under his warm clothes, with the light all starting to flicker.
"Does the power start to come back? Lets see.", he asked himself while looking out the window.
Outside the storm has become worse as the only thing he sees is the snow falling on every side and the light stops flickering. Eren starts to feel worried as the power is out, the house has become cold as ices are around his body. The natural light becomes gloomier and gloomier and all the sudden, the bell rings.
Ring, Ring, Ring…, Eren looks at the time on his phone, says 9:45 p.m.
"This is weird, who comes this late during a snow storm, maybe I should open the door.", says Eren while going toward the doors in a shivering cold.
He opens the door, a blast of cold rushed inside, biting his face like ice-cold fingers, and sees a man in black shirt holding a pizza box and handing it to him. Eren wonders how the man managed to get here in a snow storm but he doesn't want to think much. He takes the pizza and gets back inside as the coldness outside of the house can really kill him in a minute if he stays longer.
"That man has to be training for this somehow or he might have died in this snowstorm. It's really cool that I got this pizza, right now I can eat it.", said Eren in joy to get his food.
He ate all the pizza in 30 minutes with a sense of satisfaction. Even with all the satisfaction, he still shivers on the coach hearing the dry branches fall one by one, the silent winter that makes the house feel empty, the gloomy light that is the only light source for his house.
During this time he thought about all the things that happened, but then he started to think that something was off.
"How can the man ring the bell as the power is out, that's weird. How he managed to come here, how he will go back. This all does not make any sense. It makes me shiver to just think about it.", Eren said in shiver.
While he thought, the power turned back on because the snow storm began to calm down. The TV turns back on and it's at the home page, the thermometer starts to run again, and it slowly heats up the house. This makes Eren relieved as all things turn back to normal.
Ring, Ring, Ring, the phone calling, He answer the called and voice start to talk
"Hello is this Mr. Eren", the man on the phone
"Yes, who is this?", ask Eren.
"I am from Pizza Delicaos, I want to tell you that I have to cancel your order for today because of the snow storm, and we will give you a refund." said the Pizza employee.
"Wait what do you mean, mine is canceled, I just got it 45 minutes ago.", said Eren to the pizza employee in confusion.
"So that you know, we have canceled every order that was made from 8:15 p.m. today because the storm started to come," said the pizza employee.
"But I make my order on 7:55 p.m. today.", reply Eren
"Oh, that's an issue, where is your house? Let me check your order.", ask the pizza employee.
"2145 River road." answer Eren in wonder.
The employee takes 5 minutes before reply back to Eren
"Okay, Eren, you might not want to hear this but, the man that goes delivery to your house has died because he got stabbed on his back by a hard dry branch that falls because of the strong wind before the snow storm began on the way to come to your house.", replied the pizza employee in despair.
Eren was so terrified after that, and speechless for a few minutes.
"Hello sir, are you still there?" ask the pizza employee.
"Yes, thank you for letting me know.", replied Eren while shivering in terrifying feelings.
"I am so sorry and please order the pizza for us at a later time, bye." said the pizza employee and ended the call.
Eren quit for a few more minutes and he started watching the movie again. The movie seems to be similar to what he has experienced. The movie ends with the scene where the main character is actually just faced with a dream where the reality will be the same as what he has experienced in the dream. After he finished watching, he starts to slowly close his eyes, and sleeps on the coach.
Ring, Ring, Ring…
Eren awakes and he starts to realize every light is off and it is very cold. He starts to shiver, when he looks at the time it is 9:45 p.m. The cold wrapped around him like a familiar curse, and the darkness closed in, unchanged, unbroken, as if nothing had ever left.
