"An errand?" I asked Marisol, my brow furrowing in confusion.
"Yes. I was talking to Vector last night, and he mentioned that the local Fairy Court… the one in the Whispering Thicket has a specialized botanical tonic. It's for prenatal vitality. Very rare. Very important."
What? Did Marisol say she was going to send me on an errand all the way to the fairy court or had I just misheard?
I stared at her. "The Whispering Thicket? Marisol, that's miles away. Why can't we just send one of the guards? Or a courier?"
Marisol's expression darkened. "I asked for you to go, Ellie. The Fairy Elder, Master Thorne, is very particular. He doesn't deal with servants. He only deals with 'blood of the land.' That means you. And he insisted that the courier must show physical dedication to the task for the tonic to work. That means no cars or cabs."
"You've got to be kidding me." Nyla scoffed before I could even react.
