Synopsis
Rifts, doorways to other worlds, uncaring passageways that began stealing, and abandoning, regular, everyday people, carelessly tossing them aside in hellscapes only their ancient ancestors, their predecessors that roamed the earth alongside deadly predators, could even begin to comprehend. which, of course, as is the case needed for such a story, one such unlucky soul, if you could even call them that anymore, had found themselves the unfortunate victim of such an event, and once they'd found themselves on the other side, it was very clear that life, well, life was very surely against them in every aspect, as they were abandoned, without even a sliver of hope for, well, we don't really know how long, on a world devoid of any sentient life, a world full of only two things; the first, one, large, double bladed axe, glowing in red letters, a language no one spoke, or even recognized, and the second, monsters, creatures, biological natural disasters that starved for flesh. in other words, it was a world of kill, or be killed, eat, or be eaten, triumph, or lose. and losing, meant dying. they didn't want to die. they wanted to live, and they would do anything it took in order to accomplish it. including, making a deal with the axe, and forever altering the course of their life.

Chapter 1 - introduction

"I think this thing just roared at me." I scoffed in disbelief as I leapt airborne, twisted, and with one single slash, cleanly separated the creature's upper half, from its lower.

exhaling in annoyance as I landed, and its two parts slammed to the ground, rumbling the nearby dirt.

"I swear, no survival instincts." I let out with a shake of my head as the blood remaining on my axe instantly began being devoured, my weapon, my partner, now glowing a gorgeous crimson, my eyes matching in sync.

[I would have to agree] it vibrated, content with another snack.

"well, more food for us then." I beamed, my eyes and axe dimming back to non-glowing while walking over to it, axe head lowered from off my shoulder, hovering now just barely above the ground.

"now, remember, half for you, half for me, don't be greedy, you know you'll get more blood later." I found myself reminding my partner, AGAIN.

I exhaled as I heaved the weapon up singlehandedly, and then immediately slashed it into the upper half of the creature, its shoulder to be specific, the shoulder of a large, hulking, humanoid thing with hideous features and all black skin.

impatient and tapping my foot as, within seconds, its form began vanishing into the blade, same as the blood before it.

[disgusting] the axe chided, picky as ever.

[these low grade things need to stop challenging you, I need a REAL meal] it added, frustrated, and most likely still hungry.

I largely ignored while thinking, 'when is this thing NOT hungry?' as I once again shouldered the massive, 6' tall hunk of metal, and with my free hand, yanked the creature's foot up to my hip by its ankle, and began effortlessly dragging it back home.

not really noticing the weight as I walked.

I barely thought about while contentedly whistling to myself and enjoying the view of today.

the blood red sky, the lack of sun or moon, the empty barren wasteland that stretched as far as my new eyes could see.

I marveled through deep breaths and a cheery smile.

that, thanks to dipshit over here, didn't last very long.

I grumbled internally as shoulder rider interrupted my walk with its voice.

[partner] it stated, its voice different than usual.

[your original world] it paused, confusing me.

[does it have good food?] it asked, finally relieving me with its welcome return to its usual character.

"I don't remember, I don't actually remember many things from my original world, I only really remember meeting you, our deal, and fighting, that's my life." I responded honestly, not really thinking much about my answer.

I mean, you can't miss what you don't remember.

that's as true for me as it is this steel chatterbox.

it too doesn't remember how it got here, so all we both know, is each other.

which, when thinking about it, if not for this thing's constant annoyances, would be kind of sweet, and heartwarming, that is, if it wasn't constantly cold and covered in blood.

but, hey, we make do.

I smiled, eyeing the axe in a different light than normal, a light far more appreciative than I usually give.

a light that, at least I think so, would have lasted longer had I not had a thought relative to what it asked.

"plus, from what I know, I used to be human, and still was for a while after we met, the mind breaks down with time, almost a century to be specific." I suddenly blurted aloud.

[that does make sense, you were, in a word I've heard you use before, "batshit", there for a while] the axe, the blood drinking, body eating, world annihilating weapon that laughs during combat, commented.

I scoffed, almost laughed, in disbelief.

[what are bats?] it asked.

only for me to shrug.

"don't know, I just remember that their shit is somehow related to insanity for some reason, if we ever go back we should remember that if we want to make our enemies fall apart." I answered.

"that is.......if we go ba-" I almost got to finish, that is, if it weren't for a massive, flying motherfucker covered in scales and fire.

[dragon] my partner stated, obviously.

I thought while rolling my eyes and muttering, "no shit." under my breath as I abandoned our old meal to the dirt, took my weapon in two hands, and leapt skywards in preparation to rip this thing's wings from its stupid, shitty body.

only, when I slashed, instead of hitting my target, I hit sky, blue sky.

and in an instant, once again felt the effects of gravity dragging me down from the sky, my landing loud, and echous, kicking up concrete debris and dust for hundreds of feet.

obscuring my form, and hindering my vision.

none of which being a problem for me, I barely kept track of as the reflection of my glowing red eyes glinted off of the shiny edge of my axe somewhere in my peripheral.

I was still ready to fight, no matter what trick this lizard tried to pull.

I thought, readying my axe in both hands as I prepared to, and then swung, on a quickly approaching figure, only to instantly stop my weapon mere hair lengths away from their face the moment they became clear.

"you're human....." I couldn't actually believe.

"what, how? did you just get pulled in here too?!" I asked frantically, abandoning my axe to the dirt with a loud clang and low, far traveling rumble due to its immense weight.

my hands gingerly on both of their shoulders, shaking.

"don't wor-.....ry..." I staggered, confused and drowsy, my footing slipping out from underneath me.

[blasted sleep magic] I could barely hear my axe mention as everything went black.
