Carol arrived at the attack site at full speed.
When she saw the clearing, she stopped dead. She was stunned.
The reason for her silence wasn't the horrific scene or the number of dead monsters, but the manner in which they died.
There was no need to check closely. Just one glance was enough to tell that they were all killed instantly.
'Sword skills?' she wondered.
She looked at the severed limbs and the clean cuts.
'No. This isn't swordsmanship.'
In terms of pure cutting power, this was simply outrageous. Even the contemporary Sword Saint, Thearesia, couldn't slice through a dozen armored beasts and a patch of forest with a single swing.
'Since it's not swordsmanship... it can only be magic. A top-tier expert with Wind Magic.'
Having made a rough judgment, Carol turned her gaze to the dozen girls huddled near the magnificent dragon carriage a hundred meters away.
Regulus wasn't visible.
'Could he be inside the carriage?'
Carol frowned. She couldn't believe that the person who instantly killed all these monsters was the same Regulus she had easily suppressed earlier.
If it wasn't him... then a dangerous, unknown magic user was near the Capital. She had to verify their identity.
She moved towards the girls.
But as she got closer, her expression froze. Her pace slowed, and eventually, she stopped altogether.
Her gaze was drawn involuntarily to the dragon carriage.
She hadn't noticed it from afar, but now that she was closer, she could clearly see the heavy vehicle shaking. It was vibrating at a rhythmic, intense frequency.
Thump. Thump. Thump.
And the sounds...
It was a girl's sobbing, mixed with the heavy breathing of a man.
"..."
Carol blushed furiously.
Just as she hesitated, the group of girls spotted her and walked over.
"Hello," one of them said. "Did you hear about what happened and come to help?"
"That's right," Carol replied, trying to ignore the noise. "However, it seems I'm too late. The matter has already been resolved."
"That's not true. Whether you're late or not, the fact that you were willing to come is enough... Thank you."
The gratitude was sincere. But looking at their flushed faces—and enduring the strange noises pouring into her ears—Carol felt her own face burning.
"Let's not talk about that," she coughed. "Ladies, where is the person who killed these monsters?"
"This..."
The girls exchanged glances. They hesitated.
Carol frowned. 'I don't think I'll get any information from them. They're protecting their benefactor.'
"There's no other way," she muttered to herself. "I'll have to investigate everyone who entered the city recently."
Just then, one of the girls spoke up.
"Our husband was the one who killed these monsters. He is now inside the dragon carriage, 'interrogating' the culprit who launched this attack."
"Wait!" Carol's eyes widened. "You mean... all these monsters were killed by Regulus?"
"Yes. They were all killed by our Husband."
"Thanks to him, we survived."
Carol felt a surge of doubt. Judging from their affirmative attitude, they weren't lying. But was Regulus really that strong?
'If so... he was holding back earlier. Or playing with me.'
She decided to verify it later. For now, there was another issue.
"You said the murderer has been caught?"
"Yes. She was arrested and is currently being interrogated to find out where our missing sister is."
"Interrogation...?"
Carol glanced at the rocking carriage.
"Ah. I see."
The interrogation method left her speechless. Besides, the murderer must be an extremely beautiful woman. If she wasn't, Regulus would have just tortured her normally.
'Men... they still do this kind of thing even at a time like this.'
However, the culprit was remarkable. Controlling such a large number of monsters was a dangerous ability. She needed to be taken into custody.
The sun began to set.
As darkness fell, Carol's expression became increasingly indescribable.
Two hours had passed. A full two hours!
At first, she could hear the girl inside sobbing. Then came curses—vile, angry curses. But after each curse, there would be a muffled sound, as if her mouth was being forcibly gagged, followed by more sobbing.
That lasted for about an hour.
Now? The woman in the carriage seemed unable to even utter a curse. All that could be heard was broken weeping and pleas for mercy.
"Please... no more... I'm sorry..."
It was heartbreaking to hear.
'That should be enough, right?' Carol thought.
Seeing that the dragon carriage still hadn't stopped, Carol turned to the waiting girls.
"How long will this take?" she asked, exasperated.
"I don't know exactly," one girl shrugged. "However, from what I know... four or five hours isn't his limit. It usually ends when he gets hungry."
"Four... or five hours!?"
Carol's expression froze.
"And that's not even the limit? He only stops to eat?!"
'Is this guy even human?'
Let alone human... does such an outrageous existence really exist?
But that explained why he had so many wives. If there was only one wife, she definitely wouldn't last three days. She would die of exhaustion.
Inside the carriage, the "interrogation" continued.
I looked down at the sobbing Capella.
"Had enough yet?"
"Waaah! You monster! Let me go!"
"Not until you tell me where she is. And... apologize."
"I'll kill you! I'll—Mmph!"
"Wrong answer."
I continued my work. After all, I had a lot of stamina to burn.
