Choza Akimichi P O.V
Choza knew right then that he was going to pass this trio. It had taken only a minute of fighting to see their potential.
The teamwork was solid. Genma stayed back to look for openings and had devised a plan. Guy kept up close pressure with taijutsu. Shunsui supported with kenjutsu and created dangerous moments.
Choza decided it was time to get serious. Well, serious enough so that the genins does not manage to cut him even a little since that would mean he would lose a lot of respect among his peers.
He pulled out a scroll, unsealed it, and summoned his bo staff. The thick iron weapon felt comfortable in his large hands.
'I don't want to fight someone with real proficiency in kenjutsu using only my bare hands. That would be asking for trouble.' Choze thought
Choza blocked and parried as Shunsui pressed the attack. The boy moved like water, flowing from one strike to the next.
His tachi came down in a heavy overhead chop. Choza raised the staff to meet it. Steel met steel with a sharp crack. Shunsui twisted his body and brought the wakizashi in from the side, aiming for Choza's ribs.
Choza spun the staff in a wide circle to deflect the shorter blade. Sparks flew where metal scraped metal again. Shunsui ducked under the counter-swing and slashed upward with both swords in a scissor motion. Choza jumped back a step, but the tips of the blades grazed his vest again, leaving shallow cuts in the fabric.
Choza thought, 'He is quite skilled with his kenjutsu especially for someone his age. It seems that he is devoted most of his attention on working on it.'
Guy charged in again, this time with a rapid series of punches and kicks. Choza used the staff to block the blows, feeling the impact vibrate up his arms.
Guy was strong for his age too. Each strike carried real power. If it was anyone other than Choza who was known for his physical abilities, they would be spotting lots of bruises from Guy's hits. Choza twisted his body and swept the staff low to force Guy to jump.
While Guy was in the air, Shunsui closed in once more. The boy leaped forward, crossing his arms so the two blades formed an X. He brought them down together in a powerful descending strike aimed at Choza's shoulder.
Choza planted his feet and raised the bo staff horizontally. The two blades slammed into the metal staff with enough force to make Choza's muscles tense.
The impact rang out like a bell across the training ground. Shunsui hung in the air for a split second, pressing down with all his strength.
With a sudden burst of strength, Choza pushed forward. He shoved the staff upward and outward, using his massive size and raw power to send Shunsui flying backward.
The boy sailed through the air for at least ten meters before crashing to the ground in a roll. Dust kicked up around him as he skidded across the grass.
Guy arrived with another kick but Choza parried it with the staff and then smacked him to the side 'lightly' which made Guy release a grunt of pain.
Choza felt a light tickle on the side of his neck. He looked down to see several senbon sliding harmlessly off his skin and dropping to the ground.
The thin needles had struck from Genma's position, but they bounced off like they had hit stone. Choza turned his head and gave Genma a small smile. The boy stood frozen, eyes wide with shock.
"You did well to exploit that opening. But there is a reason we Akimichi are called thick-skinned, kid," Choza said in a calm voice. He tapped his own cheek with one finger. "Our bodies are built tough. And mine is tougher even among the Akimichi clan. Your poison needles are lethal, but they need to pierce their targets first to work."
Genma lowered his hand slowly, clearly surprised. He had expected at least some damage to the jonin from the senbons or even the poison.
Shunsui pushed himself up from the ground. He dusted off his pink kimono with slow, careful movements.
Bits of grass clung to the fabric, but he brushed them away without hurry. He looked at his teammates, then back at Choza. "Plan B," he said simply.
Choza watched as Shunsui raised his twin swords. The boy set the two blades against each other in a perfect cross, edges touching lightly.
The pose looked nothing like any of the Konoha kenjutsu styles. Choza tilted his head in confusion. 'Oh, what is the kid planning now?' he thought. 'Some kind of special technique? His file did not mention anything about a jutsu or a special kenjutsu technique.'
Shunsui's voice came next, "Flowery Winds Become Disturbed," Shunsui began. His tone carried an eerie calm. "The God of Flowers Sings. The Heavenly Winds Become Disturbed. The Devil of Heaven Sneers... Katen Kyokotsu."
Choza was confused and worried, 'Is he singing some kind of poem? Did I push him too hard? Did he hurt his head? Does he have a concussion? Should I stop the test to get him checked?'
But the confusion turned into shock as the crossed blades glowed. The blades shifted shape right before Choza's eyes.
When the glow faded, the swords were no longer the familiar daisho pair. They had transformed into a pair of huge, black, heavily curved scimitars.
Choza stared at the changed blades. His grip tightened on the bo staff. "What is that?" he murmured under his breath.
