Chapter 30 - BWDC:SDDK Chapter 30: Husband, Say Something!

BWDC:SDDK Chapter 30: Husband, Say Something!

"Ho... how is Mitsuaki?"

A timid, trembling voice rang out.

It was Nagamitsu Yasue, the second daughter of the Nagamitsu Corporation and the wife of Nagamitsu Mitsuaki, asking in deep sorrow.

Originally, she had intended to rush toward 'Nagamitsu Hideomi' alongside Musashi Nosuke to demand her husband's whereabouts. However, with Ren Ichimonji standing there, radiating an explosive, intimidating pressure, she hadn't dared to step closer.

Now, seeing that 'Nagamitsu Hideomi' remained silent even at this stage, her emotions finally spiraled out of control.

Yasue lunged toward 'Nagamitsu Hideomi,' grabbing his collar and shaking him violently as she wailed, "Why did you hurt my Mitsuaki? No matter the reason, you can't do something like this!"

"Hideomi, you and Mitsuaki grew up together as best friends! How could things turn out like this?"

The more she spoke, the more agitated she became, and her shaking grew increasingly frantic.

Beside them, Mouri Kogoro and Musashi Nosuke turned pale with fright. They quickly reached out to restrain Yasue——

If she kept shaking him like that, the man might faint from the pain, and then they truly wouldn't be able to find where Mitsuaki was!

However, as Yasue shook him, the bandages wrapped around 'Hideomi's' face began to slip away.

Even though the face underneath was severely swollen, Yasue and Musashi Nosuke—who knew Mitsuaki better than anyone—recognized the true identity of the battered man instantly.

"How is this possible? Mitsuaki, why are you pretending to be Hideomi?" Yasue gasped, her voice thick with disbelief.

The crowd in the hallway erupted into an uproar.

Ren Ichimonji, however, couldn't care less about the melodrama unfolding before him. After teasing the two high school detectives, he rubbed his chin and stared intently at his system screen.

It wasn't because any points had been deposited or because he was looking for items to buy.

It was because the system mission had yet to be marked as "Complete." This meant that the possibility of a violent murder occurring within this villa had not been fully eliminated.

"...She's got some moves, but not many," Ren muttered under his breath.

The moment he had leaped from the balcony and entered 'Batman mode,' his final glance had been directed at Hyuga Miyuki.

There was a strange scent clinging to Chairman Nagamitsu Dozo's private secretary. Although faint, he was certain it was the smell of machine oil. This suggested that Miyuki's role in this incident was far from simple.

The fact that the security mission remained incomplete was likely directly related to her.

"Stop shaking me! You're going to kill me! I am Nagamitsu Mitsuaki!"

Mitsuaki, his face black and blue, slurred his words painfully. If it weren't for the pride of a grown man, he would have been sobbing from the sheer agony by now.

"Let me tell you, this whole thing was..."

Ren Ichimonji shot him a look of pure disapproval.

Immediately, Mitsuaki's tone shifted. "It was entirely my fault."

"I wanted to kill my father-in-law to inherit the estate, which is why I disguised myself as Hideomi..."

Hearing this, Yasue froze.

What? I treat you as my husband, and you're trying to kill my father?

Yasue felt her entire world view collapse in that instant.

How could it be? She had always believed her husband, Mitsuaki, was the kindest, most upright person in the world. Now, hearing him confess to such a deed with his own mouth—how could she accept it?

She instinctively grabbed his arm and asked in disbelief, "That's not true, is it?"

"Husband, say something! Hurry up and tell me it's not true!"

However, the look on Mitsuaki's face confirmed the grim reality.

It was true.

The situation would not change just because of Yasue's wishful thinking.

Yasue's face turned ashen, her spirit crushed.

Yet, she was the only one in the hallway blinded by love. Everyone else either knew what kind of man Mitsuaki really was, or they had witnessed his "filial" display earlier in Dozo's bedroom when he presented his birthday gift.

In a place like Beika Town, a man merely plotting to stab his father-in-law for an inheritance was practically a model citizen compared to the usual lot.

It was certainly better than the average Beika resident who might murder a neighbor because a tree branch crossed the property line by a centimeter, only to break down and confess because they were "mentally fragile."

"So, it's attempted murder then?"

Hattori Heiji rubbed his chin, offering his assessment.

With the witness, the evidence, and the confession all present, there wasn't much else to say. He could just call the Osaka police officers from downstairs and hand Mitsuaki a pair of "rose gold" handcuffs.

Beside him, Conan shook his head.

His intuition as 'Robin' told him this case wasn't as simple as it seemed.

Mainly because 'Batman' had not yet returned to his usual, enigmatic, and slightly unhinged state of communication.

"But... actually, I didn't want to do it!"

"I was forced!" Mitsuaki shouted suddenly.

"Hyuga Miyuki forced me to do it!"

"First, she poisoned her fiancé, Hideomi. Then she forced me to help her bury his body by the pond, tying stones to him and sinking him into the water!"

"If I didn't do what she said, I would have been the second person she poisoned!"

"Today's plan was also her idea! She's standing guard in the Chairman's room right now, and she's about to kill him! Instead of watching me, you all should go check on the Chairman!"

The crowd in the hallway gasped.

What? The plan to kill Nagamitsu Dozo was orchestrated by Hyuga Miyuki? How could that be?

Mouri Kogoro took the lead, charging up the stairs toward Dozo's bedroom to see if Miyuki was truly attempting a murder, as Mitsuaki claimed.

He didn't want to believe it.

Even if his judgment of character wasn't always spot-on, he felt that the bond between Miyuki and Dozo was genuine. Dozo treated her like a daughter, and she seemed to view him as a father.

How could such a tragedy of mutual destruction happen?

As most of the group followed Mouri upstairs, Mitsuaki felt a sense of perverse relief.

Since he had been caught red-handed and couldn't escape his crimes, he might as well drag someone down with him. Besides, Miyuki wasn't innocent anyway. This time, she was definitely going to prison with him!

However, while the others had left, Ren Ichimonji remained.

He crouched down, looking at the bruised Mitsuaki with that same disapproving gaze.

"You know," Ren said quietly, "the person she wanted to kill wasn't Nagamitsu Dozo. It was you."
