"Is this real? That guy can actually turn into a fire demon?"
"This is way over the top, way more than I imagined. I thought he was just pulling some cheap tricks, didn't expect him to actually be a demon."
Deadshot and Captain Boomerang had already stopped attacking, staring in shock at the fire demon inside the bar.
Harley Quinn rested her bat on her shoulder and burst out laughing, "Don't you think he looks pretty cool?"
Killer Croc walked over and said, "That man's in trouble now."
Colonel Flag shouted, "Aren't you going to help?"
Deadshot spread his hands, "Boss, do you really think we can help?"
"Aren't you overestimating us a bit?"
At that moment, the fire demon swung a punch at Alex. It was about to land, but that fist, as big as Alex's head, was stopped by a single finger.
Alex extended one finger, pressing it against the fire demon's fist. The demon's punch froze in place.
"You're pretty fantastical, I'll give you that. This transformation looks flashy too."
"Too bad, that's all it is."
Alex smiled, "Playing with you isn't exciting at all. Let me give you something more interesting to play with."
As soon as he finished speaking, his figure blurred, then with a 'bang', he vanished from the bar.
"Where did he go?", Flag looked around, then turned to the Enchantress who had stepped out of the mirror, "Can you find him?"
Harley Quinn blew a bubble, "Mr. Magician pulled another trick. That's how he left the cage earlier too. I got to watch it live. Anyone got questions?"
Flag snapped, "Shut up, lady."
As Harley stuck out her tongue and made a face at him, the colonel took out his phone and dialed Amanda.
"Waller, the target's gone."
"I mean, he seems to have abilities similar to the Enchantress."
"He just disappeared from our sight."
"Ma'am, can you hear me?"
At that moment, a man's voice laughed from the phone, ["Loud and clear, Colonel."]
Flag sucked in a breath and shouted, "That man found Amanda!"
Pop!
Harley's bubble burst.
"Wow, impressive," she said.
———
[Top Floor of the Ostrander Federal Building]
Inside a secret command center, Amanda stepped back slowly, staring at the man who had suddenly appeared in front of her.
Alex smiled and waved at everyone in the room, "Hello."
"Working overtime at this hour?"
"Do you get paid for overtime?"
Amanda said in a low voice, "Sir, do you know where you are?"
"I order you to leave immediately!"
Alex smiled, "Old lady, I'm not one of those criminals you can use."
"You can save that act."
"And I really hate being ordered around."
"If you don't want to die, keep quiet."
Alex took out the phone he had taken from Waller and waved it at her.
"Come on. Disable the explosive devices inside those poor souls."
Amanda said firmly, "That's impossible."
"Is it?", Alex's eyes lit up, "Maybe you should think about your own life."
Amanda said expressionlessly, "You can kill me, but I'm the only one who knows the deactivation code."
"And once I die, the bombs inside them will explode."
"Wow, impressive," Alex shrugged, "Looks like I can't do anything to you."
"But maybe she can."
Alex looked behind her. Amanda was just about to turn when her vision was covered by a dirty hand.
The Enchantress!
Surrounded by black energy, sparks drifting around her, the Enchantress appeared silently and moved to snap Amanda's neck.
"Hold on, miss."
Alex tapped the briefcase holding the Enchantress's heart.
She stopped, blowing out a stream of black mist that formed a line of words in the air, [Let me kill this bitch.]
"Nope."
"If you kill her, how are we supposed to play?"
Alex patted the briefcase, "How about this. I know you can get information from her mind."
"Help me disable those explosive devices, and the heart is yours."
Amanda shouted, "You can't do that!"
Of course, neither Alex nor the Enchantress paid her any attention. After a moment of eye contact, several tendril-like strands drifted out from the Enchantress's black aura.
They burrowed into Amanda's head. Then the Enchantress looked at the phone in Alex's hand.
The phone automatically opened the password interface, and a string of numbers appeared.
The next second, the self-destruct devices inside Harley and the others were deactivated.
"The heart is yours. Don't kill her."
Alex said with a smile, "If you don't keep your promise, I'll kill you."
He tossed the briefcase over. The Enchantress turned into a mass of black shadow, vanished, then reappeared to catch it. She picked up the case, glanced at Amanda, and disappeared from the command center.
Alex laughed, "The game begins, Ms. Waller. If I were you, I'd run for your life."
"You wouldn't want that bunch who hates you to the bone coming after you, right?"
With that, Alex disappeared.
———
[Back in the Wild Night Bar]
Deadshot picked up a half-finished glass of vodka, took a sip, then looked at Flag, "Boss, we're no match for that guy."
"Since we're going to die anyway, you might as well give us a quick end."
Just now, after confirming that Alex was at the federal building, Colonel Flag had sent the Enchantress and Katana ahead, then ordered Deadshot and the others to follow for a rescue.
But none of them were buying it. Even the Avenging Demon, who had reverted from the fire demon, seemed completely broken by Alex.
He had changed into a new set of clothes and curled up in a corner without saying a word.
Flag said with a headache, "Right now, no one but you can save Amanda."
"If she dies, does that benefit you?"
"I'm warning you, Amanda's life signs are linked to your bombs."
"If her life signs disappear, you all die!"
Harley Quinn laughed a few times, swaying her hips as she walked past him, "Looks like your boss is still alive for now, since we're not dead yet."
"Don't you think that calls for a drink?"
Flag raised his hand, bringing up the detonation interface on his tactical board, "I'll count to three. If you don't move, I'll detonate the bombs!"
"I don't have time to argue with you!"
Killer Croc sat on the stage and said, "Then what are you waiting for?"
Deadshot raised another drink, "Hold on, let me finish one more before you blow us up."
Right then—
Bang!
A soft sound suddenly rang out. Deadshot's hand shook, spilling his drink. Harley burst out laughing beside him.
"Looks like you're having a good time."
Alex appeared next to Deadshot and looked around the bar.
Flag and the soldiers immediately raised their rifles and aimed at him. The colonel shouted, "What happened to Amanda? Did you kill her?"
"No, no."
Alex took out Waller's phone and showed it to Harley and the others, "Look what I've got."
"The old lady's phone."
Then he reached out and tapped Deadshot's head.
"Ah!", Deadshot screamed and shut his eyes, waiting for death.
Two seconds passed. Nothing happened.
He opened his eyes, confused.
Alex quickly tapped the phone screen a few times, "As you can see, your self-destruct devices have been deactivated."
"Wow!"
Harley cheered, ran over, and boldly grabbed Alex's face to kiss him.
"Love you, boss."
Alex laughed and slapped her firm backside.
Harley didn't get angry at all. Instead, she shot him a flirtatious look.
Alex tossed the phone onto the ground and looked at Deadshot and the others, "The old lady is on the top floor of the Ostrander Federal Building. If you move fast, you might still catch her before she gets on a helicopter and send a few bullets her way."
"Have fun, gentlemen and ladies."
Alex spread his hands and stepped back.
Sweat beaded on Flag's forehead. He hadn't expected things to develop like this.
He shouted nervously, "Where's the Enchantress?"
"Are you worried about the Enchantress, or your girlfriend?"
Alex smiled, "I gave her heart back."
Those words made Flag's heart sink. He roared and was about to fire.
But someone was faster.
Deadshot!
Bang!
A gunshot rang out in the bar. Flag's rifle was shot out of his hands and slid to the corner of the hall.
He looked at Deadshot. The man had put on his white mask and spoke from inside it, "Didn't you hear what the boss said?"
"Amanda's running. Move it."
Harley raised her hand, "I can steal a car."
Flag hurriedly said, "Wait, listen to me—"
A scream suddenly sounded behind him. Killer Croc had pounced, knocking down a soldier and biting his head off.
Captain Boomerang kissed his pink unicorn, then threw a boomerang that sliced open two soldiers' throats.
The villains, now out of control, finally showed their fangs.
Deadshot said to Flag, "Run, Colonel, run."
Flag tried to persuade him, "Think about it. Even if you kill me and Amanda, you won't get your freedom."
"Don't you want custody of your daughter?"
"Seems like that's true," Deadshot lowered his gun.
Harley looked at him, "You're not serious, are you?"
Deadshot continued, "But when I made a deal with you bastards, you made it very clear I had no room to negotiate."
"So I thought about it. Even if I help you, I won't get freedom, and I won't get custody."
With that, he fired a controlled burst, blowing Flag's head apart.
Then the group of criminals ran toward the exit. When they reached the door, they realized Alex was gone.
Passing by the Avenging Demon still curled in the corner, remembering his earlier transformation, Deadshot called out, "You coming?"
The Avenging Demon shook his head, "I want to find a quiet place and wait for death peacefully."
Deadshot pulled off his mask and smiled, "Buddy, you're not dying anytime soon."
"But if Amanda doesn't die, she'll find you again and lock you up, or use you like today. You'll never have peace."
The Avenging Demon trembled slightly, then stood up.
"That's more like it," Deadshot put his mask back on.
———
Top floor of the federal building—
Amanda put down the phone. She had just arranged a helicopter to leave Midway City.
After ordering the staff to delete all data and files, Amanda took out a handgun from her bag and pointed it at the nearest man.
"Ma'am, what are you doing?"
The man was horrified, but Amanda remained expressionless. Her finger pressed down, pulling the trigger.
BANG!
The shot rang out, but the man didn't die. A hand covered the muzzle, and a deformed bullet dropped from it.
Amanda staggered back, "Why is it you?"
Alex smiled, "If you're watching a show, you sit in the front row. For what's about to happen, where's a better place than here?"
"You really are ruthless."
"Just like the rumors say."
As he spoke, Alex took the gun from Amanda's hand and casually crushed it into a lump of metal.
"I'll leave her to you."
With that, Alex walked out of the hall.
Everyone in the room stood up, anger flashing in their eyes as they moved toward Amanda.
Amanda backed away, "Don't come closer!"
"I didn't want this either, but the data here is classified. I couldn't take the risk!"
"So you can sacrifice us?", the man who had nearly been shot shouted, "If someone has to be sacrificed, why not you?"
Amanda said firmly, "Because I'm more valuable than you. When I lose my value, they'll treat me the same way."
"Stop talking!"
"Kill her!"
"Kill her!"
Amanda said coldly, "You've already wasted too much of my time. Get out of my way now, unless you want to spend the rest of your lives in prison!"
That made everyone fall silent.
They had families, parents. No one wanted to spend the rest of their life in prison.
At that moment, someone said, "Let her go."
"I've already uploaded the surveillance footage online."
"She won't be enjoying her position much longer."
Hearing that, the crowd stepped aside, making a path.
Amanda walked through them expressionlessly and headed for the rooftop.
On the rooftop, Alex floated in the night sky, looking down at the city.
He saw Amanda appear, while in the distance a helicopter was approaching.
But as it passed a building, two streams of fire suddenly shot out from that building.
The flames blasted into the helicopter, and the pilot and soldiers inside screamed.
The helicopter exploded midair, then plunged rapidly, crashing onto the street below.
Amanda cried out, "No!"
She ran to the edge and looked down. The wreckage burned, a crushed car pinned beneath it, while pedestrians ran in panic.
At that moment, Deadshot's voice sounded behind her, "Good evening, ma'am."
Amanda turned to see him, wearing his white helmet, carrying a rifle.
She snorted, "What, just you?"
"Of course not."
Deadshot removed his mask and pointed to a rooftop across the street, "The Avenging Demon's over there. Otherwise, how do you think your helicopter got burned so quickly?"
"The crazy girl and Killer Croc are downstairs, keeping your 'Katana' busy. That woman's pretty tough, one against three."
"So I'm the only one free to come up and chat."
"I've always had a question. How did Batman find me?"
"I kept thinking about it in prison."
"In the end, I figured maybe someone gave him my information."
"That someone was you, wasn't it, ma'am?"
Amanda raised her chin, "Escort me out, Deadshot."
"If you do, you'll get your freedom. And custody of your daughter."
"And full education funding."
Deadshot smiled, "You're very generous, ma'am."
"Then why not write it down?"
Amanda raised her empty hands, "Do I look like I have anything to write with?"
"Don't worry. I'll keep my word."
Deadshot smiled, "I believe you."
Amanda immediately walked toward the rooftop door, "Then what are we waiting for?"
BANG!
A shot rang out, blasting dust from the ground in front of her feet.
Amanda looked at Deadshot, "What are you doing?"
"I believe you'll keep your promise. But someone who can put a bomb in my neck… how do I know that after I get my freedom, after I get custody and funding, I won't suddenly get shot in the back one day?"
Deadshot's lips curled slightly, "Ma'am, I'm not a three-year-old."
"I've seen too many people like you."
"Do you know the safest way to deal with people like that?"
BANG!
Amanda's head exploded. Deadshot stepped back, then fell off the rooftop.
He lowered his rifle, "You turn them into corpses."
He turned and walked away, disappearing from the rooftop moments later.
In the night sky, Alex clapped slowly, "Excellent. Now that's a real villain."
"The ones in movies are just idiots."
"So, what will the Enchantress do next?"
Moments later, Alex located her.
She was in a restroom in an underground mall.
She opened the briefcase, took out the heart inside, and pressed it into her chest.
Boom!
Green flames burst from her body. Moments later, a woman stepped out from the light.
The Enchantress was no longer filthy and disheveled.
Now her hair was styled, and she wore a fan-shaped headdress marked with symbols that looked like patterns or writing.
She was clean, beautiful, and full of charm.
