Chapter 28 - Chapter 28 - A Killer Headache

Apolgies over the week or so, New schedule for my job fucked my sleep schedule enough to not have time to write. Im adjusted now, or should be. Happy reading!

Later that same day, Jun returned home from the Battle Trial and sat down on his bed.

He briefly debated creating the clones again before checking on the new bonds, but they couldn't enter the bond space with him. After taking a deep breath, Jun closed his eyes and focused inward.

The next moment, he stood within the bond space.

The pure white space stretched out around him, multicolored orbs littered throughout it. Midoriya's orb, his mother's orb, Perfect Duplicate, Warm Hands, and Heavy Touch swirled around his head.

Jun reached up and removed Warm Hands before replacing it with Biological Blueprint. The orb rose and joined the others circling above him.

With that finished, Jun focused on the new orbs that had appeared. His attention settled on All Might's orb, and he moved toward it before placing his hand against its surface.

Just as I thought, another Quirkless orb.

As he held it, something clicked into place. The confidence of being a hero, of carrying himself like one, suddenly made more sense.

Jun let go of the orb and watched it rise to join the other Quirkless orbs circling around his head. Its energy settled across his body, leaving him with the feeling that he could squeeze out a little more whenever he truly needed it.

He turned his attention toward the other new orbs, moving through them one by one and touching each to confirm what the bonds contained.

Invisibility. Sugar Rush. Electrification. Engine.

Jun placed his hand against Momo's orb and paused.

Creation.

He let the orb rise from his hand and hover in front of him. With a thought, he sent Heavy Touch away and allowed Creation to rise into the open slot.

Jun reached up, grabbed Biological Blueprint, and pushed it into Creation. A soft chime sounded as the two orbs merged.

Well, that was easy.

He focused on the newly fused orb.

Okay, so it lets me read matter through my eyes. That'll be good for understanding how things are created without intensive study.

The fusion still felt a little lackluster.

Jun looked around the bond space until his attention settled on Himiko's much larger Transform orb. He reached over and touched it.

As he brought Transform closer to the fusion, the chiming grew louder and louder. The moment the two orbs touched, a loud gong rang inside his head and threw him from the bond space.

Jun blinked rapidly as his head spun, then reached up and touched his nose, finding that a slight nosebleed had started.

"Whoa, that felt huge."

He wiped the blood from his nose, took a deep breath, and focused inward again.

When Jun returned to the bond space, he found himself holding the gray, inactive fusion in his hand. It still felt incomplete.

He looked around and began touching the surrounding orbs, searching for the same reaction. A few produced quiet, low-level chimes, but none of them sounded right.

Jun touched Invisibility and paused when another faint chime answered.

Not that one.

He focused more carefully and continued searching until he reached Kendo's Big Fist orb.

The moment Jun touched it, a clear, coherent chime rang through the bond space.

He began bringing Big Fist toward the incomplete fusion. The chime grew louder and louder as the distance between them closed.

The two orbs touched.

The resulting gong roared through Jun's head and tore him from the bond space.

Jun rolled off the bed. Every muscle in his body spasmed while the ringing sharpened inside his skull. His vision went white, and he gritted his teeth against a silent scream.

The edges of his vision darkened. He was about to pass out.

Jun clenched one fist.

Don't pass out. Don't pass out.

After several seconds, the pain eased enough for him to move. He tried to push himself up, but his head spun, forcing him to brace one hand against the bed.

Jun blinked down at it and froze.

He could see through his hand.

Bones, muscles, veins, and nerves filled his vision. The flood of biological detail drove another spike through his headache.

"Ow, ow…"

Jun squeezed his eyes shut, but that only made it worse. He could still see the structures inside his eyelids.

Bile rose in his throat. He clutched his stomach and fought not to vomit.

Turn off. Turn off.

The Quirk deactivated, and the biological view faded.

Once his vision returned to normal, Jun noticed the taste of blood in his mouth. His headache still pounded, but the worst of the pain had eased. He dragged himself to his feet and wobbled toward the bathroom.

Jun turned on the light and winced before looking into the mirror. His nose was bleeding heavily, a thin trail of blood ran from one ear, and his eyes were bloodshot.

"Oof."

He turned on the cold water and splashed it over his face, cooling his head as he cleaned away the blood.

Okay. Let's not try that again anytime soon.

Jun returned to his room and collapsed onto his bed. The moment his head hit the pillow, he fell asleep.

When he woke again, no light came through his window. He reached toward the phone on his nightstand and turned on the screen, wincing at the brightness as he squinted at the time.

4:12 a.m.

I slept for eight hours?

Jun set the phone back on the nightstand and forced himself upright, one hand pressed against his forehead. He quietly made his way downstairs and entered the restroom, opening the cabinet to retrieve the headache medicine.

He shook two pills into his palm and swallowed them with a quick mouthful of water.

"Hopefully that helps."

Jun returned upstairs and sat on the edge of his bed. He held out one hand, and #1, #2, and #3 appeared around him.

#3 immediately grabbed his head.

"Fuck. Why did you create us, man?"

#2 looked over at #3 while covering his eyes with one hand. "Bitching about it isn't helping either, Three."

Jun lay back on the bed and closed his eyes. "So, what do you guys think about the new Quirk?"

"It fucking hurt!" #3 immediately answered.

#2 rubbed his face. "It seems pretty impressive, all things considered, but it also seems…" He snapped his fingers twice, searching for the right word.

"Training-intensive," #1 finished.

Jun chuckled, only to wince as another pulse went through his head. "Ow. Yeah, that's what I thought too."

Jun slowly sat up and looked between the three clones. "So, what's the plan? I still have to go to school, and #1 has to stick with me since he's the clone I use publicly."

"What are we calling the new Quirk, by the way?" #1 asked.

"Bio-Sculpting," #3 said, as though the answer were obvious.

#2 nodded. "Simple enough."

#1 nodded as well. "Bio-Sculpting should stay with either #2 or #3 while they're home. One of them can focus on learning the Quirk while the rest of us handle our usual responsibilities."

"Not me," #2 said. "I still have to handle the Jasper identity."

#3 shrugged. "I guess that leaves me to do all the complicated medical bullshit, huh?"

"I guess it does," Jun said.

#2 looked toward Jun. "Now, why did you create us?"

Jun pulled the pillow closer. "Because I wanted to make you guys suffer while I rested."

All three clones stared at him with deadpan expressions.

They walked over and touched Jun, remerging with him all at once.

The combined rush of memories made his headache spike. Jun fell back onto the bed and gripped his head.

"Okay. That was a bad idea."

Once the spike passed, Jun reached for his phone and set an alarm for later that morning. He placed it back on the nightstand, lay down, and closed his eyes.

[Later That Morning...]

Jun walked toward U.A. with his shoulders slightly hunched, squinting against the morning light as the headache continued pounding behind his eyes.

His friends walked beside him, unusually quiet as they whispered among themselves and shot him concerned glances. Himiko stayed at his side, her concern more visible than the others'. She held onto his sleeve and helped guide him as he strained his eyes against the light.

As the group rounded the corner toward U.A.'s gates, they found a crowd of reporters gathered outside. Reporters had been waiting there for the past few days, but the crowd was unusually thick that morning.

Even from a distance, Jun winced as he heard them repeatedly asking about All Might.

They're so annoying this morning.

As the group drew closer, a microphone was suddenly shoved toward Jun's face. He jerked his head back and forced his eyes open wider to look at the reporter.

"What's it like learning from All Might?"

Jun stopped and took a deep breath, his annoyance plainly visible. "Are you supposed to be here?"

The reporter hesitated and leaned back slightly. "What?"

Jun pointed to himself. "I'm a minor. Are you supposed to be harassing me?"

"Harassing?" The reporter waved the microphone. "No, no. I'm just asking questions."

"And I'm trying to get to school."

Jun looked across the crowd of reporters and raised his voice.

"Listen up!"

The surrounding conversations slowly died down as the reporters turned toward him.

"I know you're all looking for All Might, but hounding the gates of a school is pathetic. If you want to talk to All Might, go through his PR team. Better yet, if you want a tour of U.A., talk to U.A.'s PR team."

He gestured toward the gates behind them.

"Now, please move aside for the students of U.A."

A few reporters glanced at one another and stepped aside, but none of them left.

Jun's eye twitched.

Should I create #1?

He dismissed the thought almost immediately.

No. I shouldn't. That's crossing the line.

Aizawa stepped into the crowd. "Mori, I understand your frustration, but let's get to class."

Jun followed him through the opening while the rest of the group trailed behind.

Aizawa glanced over at him. "You don't look so good this morning. And snapping at reporters isn't a good look, Mori."

"I just have a really killer headache." Jun rubbed his face.

"Welcome to my everyday," Aizawa said. "Stop by Recovery Girl's office before coming to class."

"Yeah. I'll do that..."

When Jun stepped into the infirmary, Midoriya was already there, sitting on one of the beds while Recovery Girl continued treating his injured arm.

"Yo, Broccoli."

Midoriya looked up from the treatment. "Jun!"

Recovery Girl turned toward him, her eyes widening when she saw his condition. "Oh my. Come, come take a seat."

Jun crossed the room and sat on the bed opposite Midoriya.

"Let me finish up with this one, and then I'll take a look at you," Recovery Girl said before returning her attention to Midoriya's arm.

Jun watched the treatment for a moment before looking over at him.

"You still haven't figured out how not to break yourself, Egg?"

Midoriya scratched the back of his head. "No. Not really."

Jun clicked his tongue. "Figure that out soon, Egg. You're already impressive. Once you stop breaking yourself, you're gonna be scary."

Midoriya blinked. "You really think so?"

Jun shrugged. "It's up to you."

Recovery Girl finished treating Midoriya's arm and stepped back. "There. You're free to go, young man."

Midoriya climbed off the bed and headed toward the door before looking back at Jun.

"I'll see you in class, Jun."

Jun raised one hand and waved him off.

Once Midoriya left, Recovery Girl turned toward Jun.

"Now, let's see what the issue with you is."

After examining him, Recovery Girl stepped back. "I can't find anything immediately dangerous, but that is a nasty headache. Do you want to rest here for the morning?"

Jun shook his head. "No. I kind of need to get to class."

Recovery Girl sighed and wrote him a note. "If the headache gets worse, give this to Aizawa or whichever teacher you're with and come straight back."

Jun left the infirmary and headed toward class, chugging from the water bottle Recovery Girl had given him.

So her Quirk can't do anything for headaches, huh? That sucks.

He slipped the note into his pocket before sliding open the classroom door.

Everyone looked over at him, several of them wearing concerned expressions.

Jun silently made his way to his seat, sat down, and rested his head on the desk.

Whispers spread quietly throughout the classroom.

At least they're being nice about it.

The classroom door slid open.

"Settle down," Aizawa said as he walked toward the front of the room.

The class quieted while he stepped behind the podium and set a stack of papers down in front of him.

"Good work with yesterday's battle training. I looked over your grades and evaluations."

Aizawa's eyes moved across the room.

"Bakugo."

Bakugo stiffened and looked toward him.

"Grow up already. Stop wasting your talent."

Bakugo's jaw tightened. "…Got it."

"And it seems Midoriya ended up with another broken arm."

Midoriya jolted and sank lower behind his desk.

Aizawa tapped the stack of papers against the podium. "Learn to control your Quirk. Just trying isn't going to cut it. I hate repeating myself, but you do have potential, assuming you can overcome this. Work at it, Midoriya."

Midoriya looked up. "O-okay!"

Aizawa set the papers back down. "Now, on to homeroom business. Sorry for the sudden announcement, but today…"

The class tensed and focused on the front of the room.

"…you'll pick a class president."

"That's such a normal school-life thing!" someone near the front shouted.

The classroom immediately erupted.

"I want to be president!"

"Let me do it!"

"I'd like to do it!"

"The position was made for me!"

"I want to be a leader!"

Jun sighed and rubbed his temple.

Iida raised one hand above the noise. "Leading the class is a task of heavy responsibility. Ambition does not equate to ability. The sacred office demands the trust of its constituents. If this is to be a democracy, then I put forward the motion that our true leader be chosen by election!"

"This is a classroom, not Congress!" someone shouted.

The class began arguing over the proposal.

Jun spoke without lifting his head. "Add a rule that you can't vote for yourself."

Everyone looked toward him.

"Why'd you say that, Jun?"

Jun opened one eye. "Because we're choosing a class president. The winner should have the trust of several people, not win because they voted for themselves."

Iida nodded firmly. "That is a wise rule, Mori-san."

He turned toward Aizawa. "Will you allow this, Sensei?"

"However you do it, just make it quick," Aizawa said.

Once everyone received an individual slip of paper, Jun stared down at his and considered his options.

Either Iida or Yaoyorozu.

After a moment, he wrote down Momo Yaoyorozu, folded the slip, and carried it to the front of the classroom.

Jun placed his vote on the podium, returned to his seat, and laid his head back down while the others began handing in their votes.

Once everyone had submitted their votes, Aizawa gathered the slips and began counting them.

He paused when he reached one of the ballots.

"One of you turned in a blank vote."

Bakugo crossed his arms. "I can't vote for myself, and I'm not voting for some extra."

Aizawa continued counting until he reached the final slip.

"All right. The only students who received votes are Midoriya with one, Yaoyorozu with eight, and Mori with ten."

Jun lifted his head from the desk. "What?"

He looked around the classroom. Several students waved at him or gave him a thumbs-up.

You traitors.

Behind him, Momo straightened in her seat. "Well, Mori-san, it seems we'll be serving as class representatives together. It will be an honor to work alongside you as vice president."

Jun looked back at her before giving her a strange smile.

"You know what? Yeah, I guess it will be."

Jun and Momo stood and made their way to the front of the classroom.

Once they reached the front, Aizawa looked between them.

"Fine. Your class president is Mori, and your vice president is Yaoyorozu."

He turned away from them. "You two can return to your seats. We need to begin class."

Jun and Momo walked back to their seats. Jun sat down and leaned back, resting his head against Momo's desk as he looked up at her upside down.

Momo looked down at him. "Are you all right, Mori-san? You seem to be in a very different mood today."

"Just a really killer headache this morning, Yaoyorozu."
