"Auntie, I need a vacation," Darrius started with his case as soon as he returned home. "I've graduated the top of my class so... I think it's time for me to get away for a while and think about everything."
Darrius never felt the need to purchase a car in his small town, but he had some savings. It wouldn't be hard to leave for at least a few days.
Leda looked at Darrius with the same expression she had when he asked for a dog in her house. She sighed however, her grey and stern look wavering. "Come get some breakfast Darrius, while it's warm."
Leda motioned him over to the "classic" eggs and bacon combo she almost always made. "You're an adult now, but you're still so young! I don't know if it's a good idea for you to be going places alone!" He knew she was just being concerned but...
Darrius looked at Leda and wondered what to say to make her feel better. He didn't feel close enough or trust anyone enough to risk them interfering with his much needed freedom. He grinned at his own clever idea.
"I won't be going alone and it's only a few days I'll be gone!" Darrius blurted.
Leda studied his face. Darrius wasn't sure what she was looking for. Besides, he's an adult now after all.
Finally she must've come to the same conclusion, "Fine. I don't like it but keep me updated!"
"I will, I promise!?" Darrius exclaimed. He was excited for Leda's blessings. She was still looking at him sternly.
"I will!"
Darrius finished his breakfast quickly and ran upstairs to pack. He made sure to avoid the mirror, in case of the odd feeling resurfacing in his mind.
