She cleared her throat and waved her hand dismissively.
"That... I think not. This area is perfectly fine."
To prove she wasn't just being timid, she continued, "You see, the previous town here was quite nice. During the day, you could see the beautiful green mountains and clear waters in the distance. The people in town were simple and honest. When I had nothing to do, I could even go out and listen to a couple of old ladies gossip. That kind of atmosphere is perfect for a pregnant woman like me. It's relaxing, and it made me feel at ease in both body and mind. It's a shame it's all burned down now."
Javier Sinclair: "..."
'Relaxing? At ease in body and mind?'
'In this dump?'
He frowned slightly.
'So she still wants to stay here to have the baby?'
'What's wrong with The Demon Palace? It has everything one could ever want, countless people to serve her, and most importantly, it's safe. But no, she insists on living here.'
His gaze fell to her large belly.
'This woman is about to give birth.'
'Forget it. Let her have her way.'
'I've heard pregnant women have fickle minds and need to stay in a good mood to avoid agitating the fetus, which could lead to a difficult birth or something. This woman might be a pain, but she's carrying my child. If she died in childbirth, it would be my fault.'
Of course, he didn't understand any of this himself. It was all from Nerida nagging in his ear before, and he had only remembered a sentence or two.
He was the magnificent Demonic Sovereign. He could be a remorseless Archfiend who killed without batting an eye, but he absolutely could not bear the reputation of getting a helpless woman pregnant only to let her die. He couldn't afford that kind of disgrace.
'Fine!'
With that thought, he spoke. "That's not difficult."
As Javier Sinclair spoke, he looked up at the endless sea of fire before them.
"If it's burned down, we'll just build a new one. I saw a decent spot about ten li outside of Breezewind Town. There's just a mountain in the way, but that's no great feat. We can just level it and build there."
"I'll have people start construction tomorrow. It'll be built for you within three days. Until the child is born, you will behave yourself."
He sounded annoyed as he spoke, as if she were incredibly difficult to care for.
This time, Celeste Grant was truly stunned by his words.
'What is he saying?'
'Is he going to build another Breezewind Town just for me to carry the baby to term?'
'Unbelievable.'
Celeste Grant couldn't help but ask, "You're going to have someone build another Breezewind Town? Are you sure?"
'That's a massive undertaking, and he wants it done in three days?'
Javier Sinclair's brow furrowed. "Weren't you the one who wanted to have the baby here? You women are so troublesome and fussy." 'So high-maintenance, being picky about where to spend her pregnancy,' he thought. 'Whatever.'
Celeste Grant choked.
"Ahem."
'Mister, you just have to say the most outrageous things, don't you?'
Seeing her raise a hand to her lips and cough lightly, he knit his brows. "What's wrong? Are you unwell? Let's leave. Even with that fire-warding item on you, staying here for too long will take its toll."
Javier Sinclair frowned slightly.
He sighed internally.
'Good thing she's only having this one. I can't stand how fragile and troublesome women are.'
Celeste Grant didn't speak, merely staring at him in a daze.
'What on earth is this man thinking? He's actually indulging me? This is unbelievable. He's the Archfiend whose reputation terrifies both the Immortal and Demonic Paths.'
'Is he really the type to accommodate others?'
'Or... does he truly value this child that much? But he doesn't seem like someone who cares about family ties. After all, this is a man who killed his own father and brother.'
In truth, she had only come here in the first place to snatch an opportunity from the story's original female lead; she didn't actually have to live here. As long as there weren't any skulls around, she would be fine living anywhere.
'But if I told him now that I don't want to live here anymore, would he fly into a rage?'
At that thought, she gave a dry laugh and said, "Your Exaltedness... Look, if it's too much trouble, let's not build it. I don't absolutely have to live here. Other places are fine too."
Javier Sinclair sneered. "I am more than capable of fulfilling a simple request like this."
"How about..." She wanted to insist it really wasn't necessary.
But he shot her a death glare, his face cold.
'Fine, build it then.'
'If the Archfiend himself doesn't think it's a hassle, what can I say?'
"Then go ahead and build it. It's a huge project, so let the people from the town help with the construction."
"Let's get out of here first. It's boiling hot."
Although she had the Spirit Fire Pearl and wasn't afraid of the flames, with the fire burning this intensely, she still felt the heat. Her chest felt tight, and she was short of breath, struggling to breathe.
Celeste Grant walked with a hand on her lower back, her body feeling heavy and cumbersome.
Javier Sinclair walked up to her and held out his hand.
"Come here."
Celeste Grant stopped and looked at him. "What for?"
Javier Sinclair said coldly, "Moving like you are, you look like a flailing moth. By the time you walk out of here, it'll be dawn."
Celeste Grant's face twisted into an angry scowl. 'This man! How can someone so handsome have such a nasty mouth?'
'A flailing moth?'
'Me?' Celeste Grant looked down at herself. An image of a fluttering moth popped into her head: big body, small wings, unable to fly properly. Paired with the clothes she was wearing... 'Damn it, that's a perfect description. He's too good at this.'
'So annoying!' She was so mad she turned around, not wanting to deal with him.
An arm grabbed hers. Before she could speak, she felt a hand wrap around her waist. The next moment, her feet left the ground as he swept her up into his arms, carrying her bridal style.
He walked on air, and in an instant, his figure had already stopped mid-sky.
This was true flight, walking on nothing as if it were solid ground without needing Sword Control. It was a manifestation of his immense Cultivation.
She was terrified that if his hand slipped, she would plummet from this incredible height. She subconsciously grabbed the fabric of his sleeve. "I'm telling you, you better hold on tight. If I fall, it'll be two lives lost."
Javier Sinclair: "Shut up. Say one more word and I really will throw you down."
"No, no... I won't say any more," she mumbled softly, then cautiously glanced down.
From this vantage point, the entirety of Breezewind Town was laid out below, winding and twisting like a burning fire dragon.
Seen from here, the view was truly beautiful, but it was just too high. A single glance down made her heart pound with fear, and she felt dizzy.
Looking up slightly, she said, "Let's go, quickly."
Javier Sinclair flew through the air with her in his arms, moving at great speed.
This time, she felt neither wind nor any discomfort; a transparent spiritual energy passport shielded them.
"Thank you, Your Exaltedness. You're actually a pretty nice person."
'At a time like this, it's better to say a few nice things. I don't know if the Archfiend falls for flattery, but he's still a man, right?'
Hearing this, Javier Sinclair just sneered and said nothing.
Held in his arms, it wasn't long before Celeste Grant couldn't fight off her drowsiness and fell asleep, leaning against Javier Sinclair's shoulder.
He glanced down slightly.
The woman in his arms had already shifted positions several times during the journey. Now her arms were wrapped around his neck, her breath tickling the side of his throat.
'How audacious!'
Javier Sinclair found a place for her to stay in a nearby city and arranged for guards to watch over the area before he left.
Just as he was about to leave, the woman clutched his clothes in her sleep and wouldn't let go.
Javier Sinclair pried her hand away, and his figure vanished from her room...
