The two red patches on its cheeks vanished, replaced by a ghastly, cyanotic pallor that spread across its entire face.
Jane Sterling scoffed.
"Let me tell you, this is the Samadhi Fire, capable of melting even gold. If you're not afraid, then come on! We'll see if I don't burn every last one of you to a crisp!"
As she spoke, Jane Sterling promptly flicked the lighter on and held it in front of her.
The paper people were indeed afraid of fire. Upon seeing the flame, they all flinched and retreated.
"Why won't you marry me? What's so good about her?!"
The bride spoke in a human voice, her jaw creaking loudly—CREAK CREAK—a sound that was exceptionally clear in the dead of night.
Jane Sterling raised an eyebrow. 'I can't believe this paper person can actually talk.'
She instantly looked over at Drew Thorne.
"Drew Thorne, you tell her. Why won't you marry her?"
Drew Thorne's lips curled into a smirk. He took Jane Sterling's hand and brought it to his lips, planting a kiss on it.
