"You all must protect yourselves," Mr. Asher's voice carried clearly across the gathering as the Red Dorm assembled tightly around him. His sharp eyes moved deliberately from one face to another, assessing, measuring, before finally settling on me with quiet intensity.
"...And above all, protect Nyx."
I sighed, shifting my weight from one foot to the other. It came back to me.
Theo threw both hands into the air dramatically, his voice ringing out with exaggerated despair. "We might need protection from her, Mr. Asher!"
A few chuckles rippled through the group. Even Kaden allowed a rare smirk to tug at the corner of his mouth.
Lyra shook her head, crossing her arms. "You say that now until she saves your life again."
"Exactly my point," Theo replied without missing a beat, grinning widely. "She's dangerous to monsters, enemies... and occasionally her own teammates."
"I heard that," I said dryly, shooting him a pointed look.
