The academy bells rang before sunrise, three deep, resonant chimes that rolled across the campus like thunder, dragging every student from their beds whether they wanted to wake or not.
I groaned into my pillow, the sound muffled against the fabric. It felt like I had only just closed my eyes. Sleep had been a reluctant visitor last night, slipping away the moment it arrived. Every time I drifted off, Morvalis invaded my dreams, twisted images of blood-soaked earth, endless dark forests where shadows moved with lethal intent, monstrous roars echoing through the trees, and screams that never quite faded.
The bells wrenched me back to cold reality. I opened my eyes slowly, rubbing the grit from my eyes before letting out a long, weary sigh.
"So we're really doing this again..." I muttered to the empty room, my voice rough with exhaustion.
Today marked our first official mission. No more training grounds or controlled simulations. Real danger waited on the other side.
