[IRIS POV]
Caius spluttered, and I watched his expressions cycle between disbelief and indignation as his eyes flickered between his father and me.
"I'm not a coward! But Father, this is an unfair fight. I won't do it."
Inside my head, my wolf was throwing a temper tantrum that would make any spoilt heiress proud.
'I don't want to fight our mate!' My wolf protested, doing the wolf equivalent of beating her fists onto the floor. 'He'd feel terrible hurting us! Maybe he won't even fight back, and we'll just hit him again and again. We could paralyze him for good, and he'll hate us forever!'
'You have too much faith in him and in our abilities. It's more likely that he'll hurt us. Namely me,' I retorted dryly, reminding my wolf that she ought to care more about the puny human she was attached to.
