"Maybe like… Like ….Yvette's voice trailed off awkwardly when she realized it was more difficult to make up a plausible reason than she thought.
"Like?" I prodded, just so I could irritate her.
Yvette bit her lip so hard that I could see a drop of blood welling up from her lower lip. She turned to Caius and flashed her watery eyes at him. "Caius, look, she's picking on me!"
"She just asked you a question, since you were the one claiming she has something to offer Martin's family," Caius pointed out with a tired sigh. "I would also like to know what it could be."
"She saved Martin's life," Martin's grandfather declared haughtily. "Just by that act alone, she deserves our gratitude. Is that too foreign a concept to you, young Yvette? How did your father raise you?"
