Jay Jay's POV
The heavy, suffocating weight of James's hands suddenly vanished from my body.
Thud.
My knees buckled instantly, and I dropped straight onto the cold, dusty floor of the observatory. My weak fingers clawed at the concrete just to keep myself upright, my chest heaving as a ragged, agonizing sob tore through my raw throat.
They were gone. Through the blurred, rain-streaked glass, I watched the dark tactical vehicles of Section E roll completely out of the courtyard, their red taillights bleeding into the pitch-black storm before disappearing entirely past the iron gates. They had left. My family, my brothers, my Keifer—they were gone, and they had no idea I was breaking piece by piece right above them.
"Get up, you useless piece of trash," Zoren barked, letting out a loud, heavy exhale.
The terrifying tension that had gripped the three brothers completely broke. James wiped the panicked sweat from his forehead, leaning against a pillar as he let out a jagged, relieved laugh. It was like a lethal tornado had just narrowly missed them, leaving them alive by a mere fraction of a second.
"We survived," Arturo breathed, his voice still trembling slightly despite his attempt to sound cocky. "The monster didn't look up. Now, drag her back down to the basement. We need to force her to sign those papers before Watson realizes she's connected to this property and comes back."
James lunged forward, grabbing the collar of my oversized black hoodie and brutally hauling me back to my feet. My body screamed in pain as they dragged me back down the narrow, dark service stairs, my bare legs scraping against the stone steps. They threw me back into the dim hallway outside the basement, my broken frame collapsing into a miserable, shivering heap.
"You're going to sign it now, Jay Jay," James hissed, tossing the damp documents onto my lap. "Your billionaire protector isn't coming back. You are completely alone."
CRASH!
The words had barely left his mouth when the massive, reinforced iron front doors of the estate mansion didn't just open—they were completely blown off their hinges. A deafening, explosive boom echoed through the corridors, shattering the windows and sending a violent shockwave of dust and concrete flying through the air.
My heart flatlined.
Footsteps. Heavy, synchronized, and deadly tactical boots began to rain down into the foyer. They were back. They had come inside again.
Keifer's POV
My feet carried me through the shattered threshold of the mansion, my hand gripping a heavy tactical firearm with a force that nearly cracked the frame.
[Flashback]
Just minutes earlier, I had been sitting in the driver's seat of my vehicle at the outer gates. My hand was resting on the ignition switch, ready to start the car and move the convoy to the next sector. The tracking logs said this place was a dead end. Logic told me to leave.
But as my fingers touched the keys, a suffocating, visceral wave of dread slammed into my chest. My heart started screaming at me—a wild, frantic pounding against my ribs that completely ignored my rational mind. It was a terrifying, strange sensation, an invisible tether pulling violently backward. Every instinct in my body rejected the exit. My soul refused to take another step forward, begging me to just check one more time. I tore my hand away from the ignition, kicked the car door open into the downpour, and turned the entire convoy around in a blind, unholy fury.
[Present]
And now, standing at the end of the long, dim corridor, I saw exactly why my heart had refused to let me leave.
Crumpled on the freezing concrete floor was Jay Jay.
My chest completely locked up, a suffocating, lethal agony ripping through my entire being. My heart shattered into a million bloody pieces at the sight. She looked so agonizingly pale, her skin almost translucent under the sickly hallway light. Fresh, dark blood was smeared across her cheek and dripping from her swollen, cracked lip. Her entire body was shaking so violently it looked like her bones were vibrating, her small frame drenched in freezing water, her hair matted to her skull. She was bent over completely, coughing weakly as her trembling hands desperately clutched her stomach, trying to protect her fractured ribs. Her legs were covered in deep, bleeding scratches and dark purple bruises.
For the first time since I had met her, the fierce, stubborn, untouchable Section E girl was completely broken. She was reduced to a shivering, helpless target by the monsters standing over her.
In that exact millisecond, every single ounce of my humanity was thoroughly incinerated. The civilized man, the billionaire businessman, the rules of engagement—all of it died permanently. A dark, demonic void took over my soul, leaving nothing but an absolute, cataclysmic wrath.
"Step away from her," I whispered.
My voice didn't shake. It didn't lift. It was a dead, hollow rasp that vibrated from the absolute depths of a graveyard, carrying the weight of a horrific death sentence.
The three of them frozen, their faces instantly turning a sickening shade of grey. The proud, cruel stepbrothers looked like they had just opened a door straight into hell, their hands trembling violently as they looked at the tactical weapons raised by the men behind me.
Angelo and Aries pushed past me, their faces contorted in a mixture of pure horror and homicidal rage the moment they saw their sister bleeding on the floor.
"Jay Jay!" Aries screamed, his voice cracking with a terrifying guilt. He went to lunge forward, but his eyes suddenly locked onto the faces of the three men. Aries stopped dead in his tracks, his breathing turning fast and ragged. "No... no way. You... you bastards."
I didn't take my eyes off . "Aries. Who are they?"
"They're her stepbrothers, Keifer!" Aries roared, tears of absolute rage spilling over his eyes as he pointed his shaking gun at James. "They're the sons of the bastard who used to beat her! The ones who burned her! The ones who made her live in a living hell when I was not there!"
The puzzle pieces in my mind snapped together with a sickening, heavy click.
The childhood trauma. The deep-seated terror of the dark. The phantom scars on her soul that she always tried to hide behind her dramatic tantrums. It was them. The three men standing in front of me were the architects of her nightmares. They were the ones who had taught her how to feel small.
A cold, wicked, demonic smile slowly pulled at the corners of my lips, but my eyes remained completely dead, burning with a lethal promise that made Zoren instinctively wet himself in terror.
"So," I murmured, stepping forward, my heavy boots crushing the damp transfer documents beneath my heel, grinding them into the dirt. "You are the ones who made her bleed. You are the ones who taught her how to cry."
James tried to take a step back, his voice completely fracturing as his massive pride stripped away, leaving nothing but a petrified child. "W-Watson... wait. This is family business. It has nothing to do with your empire—"
"She is my empire," I growled, the alpha inside me fully taking the reins as I raised my weapon, the absolute shadow kingpin of the world preparing to paint the walls in their blood. "And you are about to find out exactly what happens when you touch what belongs to death."
AUTHOR POV
The thin sheet of restraint holding back the apocalypse broke into jagged pieces.
"Kill them! Kill them all!" Zoren shrieked, his voice losing any remaining shred of manhood as he scrambled backward into the shadows of the corridor.
From the side doors and hidden alcoves of the dim hallway, a dozen heavily armed mercenaries—the stepbrothers' last line of defense—flooded the space. But they weren't dealing with a rival gang. They were dealing with an elite, multi-billion-dollar shadow syndicate.
"Section E! Clear the floor!" Denzel roared.
The sound of tactical firearms and the brutal, heavy thuds of flesh hitting concrete echoed through the mansion as the unit moved in with terrifying precision. Keifer didn't wait. His dark eyes remained fixed entirely on Jay Jay's pale, shivering frame at the end of the hall. He took three long, deliberate steps toward her, his face a mask of absolute, frozen death.
"Stop him!" James screamed, pointing a trembling finger at the shadow kingpin.
Four massive goons threw themselves directly into Keifer's path. Keifer didn't even flinch. As the first mercenary lunged with a tactical blade, Keifer ducked beneath the strike with lethal fluidity. His large, calloused hand snapped outward, catching the man's throat and slamming his head brutally against the concrete wall with a sickening crack. Before the second goon could raise his weapon, Keifer drove a devastating, heavy side-kick straight into his chest, fracturing his ribs and sending him crashing through a wooden door frame. He fought like an ancient, possessed beast—silent, ruthless, and utterly unstoppable, tearing through the wall of bodies just to reach his heart.
At the same time, a feral, unhinged scream ripped from Angelo's throat as he bypassed the mercenaries and threw himself directly at Zoren.
"You touched my sister!" Angelo roared, his fist connecting with Zoren's jaw, sending the stepbrother crashing into a heavy iron radiator. Angelo didn't let him breathe; he dragged him up by his collar, driving punch after brutal punch into his face. "You miserable piece of trash! You thought you could hide from us?! Why her?! Why did you make her live in terror?!"
Aries was fighting James on the other side of the corridor, his eyes bloodshot with a suffocating, toxic mix of guilt and pure brotherly rage. He slammed James against the wall, his fingers digging into his throat.
"You hurt her when I wasn't there!" Aries screamed, his voice cracking violently as he drove his knee into James's stomach. "I left her alone this morning! I was supposed to protect her, and you laid your filthy hands on her! Do you remember the rain, you bastard?! Do you remember keeping her outside?! I'll make you beg for mercy in the freezing mud before this night is over!"
Amidst the explosive, chaotic violence tearing the hallway apart, Arturo saw his chance. He was trapped, cornered, and entirely crazed by the realization that they were going to die. He looked down at Jay Jay, who was coughing weakly on the floor, her small hands still frantically clutching her fractured ribs.
Pure, unadulterated malice twisted Arturo's face. If they were going down, he was going to take her down with them.
He lunged past the fighting bodies, his heavy hand swinging backward before connecting in a brutal, open-palm slap right across Jay Jay's face.
SPLACK!
The force of the blow was so unhinged it ripped a choked, breathless whimper from her lips. Her frail, drenched body was tossed sideways, her head slamming hard against the cold concrete floor.
"It's because of you!" Arturo screeched, his face distorted into a demonic mask as he began to violently kick her in the stomach and back. "You brought this plague to our house! You useless, ungrateful bitch! You should have signed the papers! You should have died in that basement like the trash you are!"
"ARTURO!" Keifer's voice tore through the hallway—a primal, demonic roar that didn't sound human.
But Arturo was completely deaf to the warning, consumed by a frantic, murderous hysteria. He drove his heavy leather boot straight into her side once, twice, three times. Jay Jay couldn't even fight back. She couldn't curl into a ball. Her eyes flicked open for one agonizing, blurry second, staring through the fog of violence at Keifer's desperate, furious form fighting through the last of the goons.
Her lips twitched, trying to form his name one last time, but the physical trauma to her broken body was too much. The excruciating pain faded into a cold, heavy numbness. Her long eyelashes fluttered shut, her head lolled softly to the side, and she fainted into a deep, silent abyss, completely unconscious as the walls of the mansion finally ran red with the stepbrothers' blood.
Keifer's POV
I saw it. I saw every single frame of it in agonizing, terrifying slow motion.
I saw Arturo move toward her. I saw the impact as he struck her, and I watched, paralyzed by horror, as she fell against the concrete floor.
But he didn't stop there.
He continued his assault, every blow fueled by a cruelty that made my blood run cold. I saw the marks left on her, the signs of the struggle she was losing. I saw her try to shield herself until her strength finally failed. I saw the exact moment her eyes closed and her body went limp. He had continued until she lost consciousness, leaving her motionless on the cold floor.
The sight ignited a roar from the depths of my throat—a sound of pure, unbridled fury that echoed through the hallway. I didn't hesitate. I became a blur of motion, driven by a need to protect what was mine.
I reached Arturo before he could move again.
I grabbed him, my grip unyielding, and forced him to face the consequences of what he had done. He looked at me with sudden realization and panic, but I didn't give him a moment's peace. I channeled all my rage into a single, decisive strike.
The force of the blow was absolute. Arturo's eyes rolled back as the impact sent him crashing to the ground. He was out instantly, lying motionless on the concrete.
I didn't give him another thought. I dropped to my knees, my boots skidding on the floor as I reached for her.
"Jay Jay..."
My voice, usually steady and commanding, broke into a frantic whisper. My hands shook as I reached out. I was terrified. I gently slid my arms beneath her frail frame and pulled her up against my chest.
I tucked her head into the crook of my neck. She felt so light, her skin cold and pale under the dim lights. I didn't care about the state of my suit or the chaos around us; I only cared about her.
"Jay Jay, look at me. Open your eyes. Please," I begged, my chest tightening. I cupped her face, my thumb tracing her features desperately. "I'm here. Keifer is here. Please, just look at me."
She didn't move. Her eyelids remained shut, and her breathing was shallow. Her head rested heavily against my shoulder, showing no sign of waking.
"Jay Jay! Hear my voice!" I called her name repeatedly, my voice rising in a desperate command. The room fell silent as everyone watched, the weight of the moment hanging heavy in the air.
I tightened my grip on her, a low sound of grief vibrating in my chest. I slowly stood up, cradling her limp body tightly against my heart, my eyes filled with a cold, final resolve.
"Felix. Calix," I said, my voice dropping to a low, dangerous register. "Mobilize the private medical wing. Get the chopper on the roof now. We are leaving, and she is going to get the best care possible."
Author's POV
The chaotic sounds of the violent clash faded into a heavy, suffocating silence. The remaining mercenaries lay incapacitated across the shattered corridor, thoroughly subdued by the tactical efficiency of Section E. The air was thick with the scent of damp concrete, ozone, and copper.
Keifer remained on his knees, a towering silhouette of absolute, unholy wrath frozen in a moment of pure vulnerability. He held Jay Jay tightly against his chest, his broad shoulders trembling as he repeatedly called her name into the empty space. But her eyelids remained heavy and sealed. She was completely unresponsive, a fragile, broken flower caught in the aftermath of a brutal storm.
Heavy, hurried footsteps echoed through the dim hallway.
Angelo and Aries broke away from the wreckage of the stepbrothers, their hands covered in dirt and the blood of their enemies. Right behind them was Percy, his tactical weapon lowered but his eyes wide with an intense, protective panic.
The three men stopped dead in their tracks the moment they saw her in Keifer's arms.
"Jay Jay..." Angelo breathed, his voice cracking violently. The furious, screaming older brother vanished instantly, replaced by a terrified boy looking at his broken little sister. He dropped his weapon carelessly to the floor, the metal clattering loudly against the concrete, and stumbled forward. He sank to his knees right beside Keifer, his large hands hovering over Jay Jay's pale, bruised face, trembling too much to even touch her. "No, no, no... Jay anak, please. Wake up. Kuya is here. We got them. We got all of them."
Aries dropped down on her other side, a heavy, choked sob escaping his throat. He looked at her scratched, drenched legs and the deep purple bruises forming on her ribs where Arturo had kicked her. The guilt was eating him alive, clawing at his chest until he could barely breathe.
"This is my fault," Aries whispered, his face twisting in pure agony as he reached out, his fingers gently brushing a wet strand of hair away from her forehead. "I shouldn't have left you. I swear to God, Jay, I'm so sorry. Please just open your eyes. Kick me, yell at me, do your tantrums... just don't stay like this."
Percy stood right behind them, his jaw clenched so hard the muscles in his face groaned. He looked down at the limp, pale girl who usually brought so much chaotic life and noise to Section E. Seeing her this helpless—stripped of her fierce pride and bleeding on a freezing floor—sent a dark, chilling wave of anger through him. He glanced back at the unconscious, battered bodies of Zoren, James, and Arturo, his eyes darkening with a silent promise of absolute ruin.
"The perimeter is clear, Keifer," Percy said, his voice dropping into a low, rigid vibration to keep his own emotions from breaking through. "The private medical chopper is already spinning its blades on the clearing outside the estate gates. Felix and Calix have the trauma team standing by. We need to move her now."
Keifer didn't look up at them. His dark eyes remained fixed entirely on Jay Jay's face, his thumb gently tracing the blood trickling from her cracked lip. The sheer, suffocating gravity of his silent grief and anger made the air around them feel heavy, like a physical weight pressing down on their chests.
Slowly, deliberately, Keifer shifted his weight. He slid one powerful arm beneath her knees and the other securely behind her back, lifting her broken, shivering frame off the cold concrete in one fluid, fiercely protective motion. He pulled her flush against his chest, tucking her head securely under his chin as if trying to shield her from the very memory of this place.
He stood up, a terrifying monolith of pure destruction, holding his entire world in his arms.
"She isn't staying in this house for another second," Keifer murmured, his gravelly voice dropping into a dead, hollow register that chilled everyone to the bone.
He marched past Angelo, Aries, and Percy, his heavy boots stepping right over the broken glass and the damp transfer documents scattered on the floor. He walked out of the dim, suffocating corridor and straight into the pouring rain, his long strides carrying her toward the waiting medical team, leaving the ashes of her childhood trauma burning red in the dark behind him.
The heavy downpour slammed against the windshield of the black car as it tore out of the estate gates, its tires kicking up thick sheets of mud and water. Percy's hands were clamped hard around the steering wheel, his knuckles white as he drove with lethal, terrifying speed through the dark, flooded streets.
In the cramped, tense silence of the back seat, Jay Jay's fragile, broken frame was cradled between the two men who would burn the world to keep her safe. Her upper body was held flush against Keifer's broad chest, his powerful arms wrapped securely around her waist to anchor her against the violent swaying of the speeding car. Her head rested heavily under his chin, her skin looking sickeningly translucent in the passing streetlights, her shallow, rattling breaths barely moving against his tailored suit.
Her legs stretched across the length of the seat, resting heavily on Angelo's lap.
Angelo's large, calloused hands trembled as he looked down at them. The fierce, aggressive older brother was completely gone, reduced to a hollowed-out shell of grief as his eyes traced the deep, bleeding scratches and the dark, ugly purple bruises blooming across her skin where Arturo's heavy boots had landed. He gently hovered his hands over her ankles, wanting so desperately to hold her, but petrified that even the lightest touch would cause her broken body more pain.
Up in the front passenger seat, Aries sat stiff as a board, his unblinking eyes staring straight out at the rain-slicked road. His fingers were dug so deeply into his own knees that his nails were nearly drawing blood through his jeans. The suffocating weight of his guilt filled the front of the cabin like toxic gas.
"Drive faster, Percy," Keifer commanded.
His voice didn't lift. It was a low, hollow vibration that scraped against the tense silence of the car like iron shears. He didn't look up from Jay Jay's face, his thumb repeatedly brushing a wet strand of hair away from her blood-smeared cheek. His entire aura was dead, stripped of any human mercy.
"I'm pushing it to the absolute limit, Keifer," Percy responded, his eyes fixed on the road as he swerved brutally around a slow-moving truck. "We'll be at the private hospital wing in seven minutes. Calix already cleared the emergency bay. The trauma surgeons are standing outside on the tarmac."
Angelo let out a ragged, broken gasp, his hand finally dropping gently onto her shin. "Look at her legs... look what those bastards did to her. She was always so proud of how fast she could run, how she could outsmart anyone in Section E. And they... they treated her like trash." A hot tear escaped his eye, tracking down his dirt-stained cheek. He looked up at Keifer, his voice cracking with a terrifying mixture of sorrow and homicidal rage. "Keifer, she won't even open her eyes. I've been calling her name for twenty minutes. Why isn't she waking up?!"
"She's exhausted, Angelo," Keifer murmured, his grip tightening around her upper body, pulling her even closer to his heart as if his own life force could keep her breathing. "Her mind couldn't handle the trauma of that basement. Her body couldn't handle the blows. She fainted to protect herself from the pain."
"It's because of me," Aries suddenly choked out from the front seat, his voice tiny, fractured, and entirely stripped of his usual grumpy attitude. He didn't turn around to look at them; he just stared at the blurry windshield wipers. "I left her. She literally pushed me away so I could take care of Ella. She smiled at me, Keifer. She joked around. And I just... I drove off and left her alone on that sidewalk. If I had just stayed, if I had told her to shut up and get back in the car, those three monsters would never have been able to touch her."
"Aries, stop," Angelo snapped weakly, his own guilt clashing against his brother's. "We didn't know. None of us knew her past was crawling back out of the shadows."
"I knew," Keifer's gravelly voice cut through the brothers' bickering, instantly freezing the air inside the vehicle. He slowly raised his eyes, his pitch-black, bottomless gaze reflecting in Percy's rearview mirror. "I am the one who rules the shadows of this city. I am the one who controls every border, every shipment, every cell. And I let her walk into a trap."
He lowered his head back down, leaning his forehead gently against the top of Jay Jay's damp head. The terrifying alpha facade didn't vanish, but it twisted into a desperate, silent plea.
"She is my heart," Keifer whispered into her hair, his chest heaving with a heavy, broken sob that he refused to let out. "And I will tear down every single stone of this country before I let anyone make her feel this helpless again."
In his lap, Jay Jay didn't move. Her long eyelashes remained tightly sealed against her pale cheeks, her body shivering slightly against his warmth. But deep within her chest, her heart gave a small, steady thud, holding onto the safety of his voice as Percy violently swung the car into the hospital's private gate.
