Keifer's POV
The tires of the car screeched violently as Percy slammed on the brakes, bringing the heavy vehicle to a sudden, sliding halt directly under the blinding, clinical glare of the private hospital bay. The door was ripped open before the engine could even die. I emerged from the back seat like a force of nature, my powerful arms locked rigidly around Jay Jay's limp, pale body.
Angelo and Aries scrambled out right behind me, their footsteps loud and frantic against the asphalt, their faces completely hollowed out by pure panic.
A trauma team of top surgeons and emergency nurses rushed toward us, pushing a sterile white gurney forward, their voices overlapping in a chaotic blur of medical jargon.
"Lay her down, sir! We need to check her vitals immediately!" one of the nurses shouted, reaching out to take her from me.
But the exact millisecond her fingers brushed against the fabric of Jay Jay's torn hoodie, a dark, lethal snarl rumbled deep inside my chest. My grip only tightened, pulling her frail frame closer, flush against my chest. My bloodshot, pitch-black eyes snapped toward the medical staff, radiating an aura so cold and oppressive that the entire team instinctively took a step back, their breath catching in their throats. They recognized the look of an apex predator on the verge of tearing everything apart.
"Out of my way," I commanded. My voice didn't lift, but it carried the weight of an iron blade. "Lead the room. I am carrying her inside."
No one dared to argue. I marched through the sliding glass doors of the private wing, my heavy tactical boots leaving tracks of muddy rain and her spilled blood on the polished white floors. I didn't stop until I reached the center of the resuscitation unit. Carefully, with a gentleness that felt entirely foreign to my calloused, blood-stained hands, I laid her down onto the sterile mattress.
Then, the agonizing waiting began.
Hours bled into one another, stretching out like a slow, torturous execution. The clinical, rhythmic beep... beep... beep of the heart monitor was the only sound cutting through the suffocating air. I stood frozen in the corner of the room, a terrifying, motionless statue of pure vengeance. My tailored charcoal suit was damp, ruined by the storm, and heavily stained with the blood of the woman who held my entire soul. I didn't care. I didn't blink.
Angelo was leaning his heavy frame against the concrete wall across from me, his jaw clenched so tight the muscles in his face groaned, his hands balled into tight fists until his knuckles split open and bled onto the tile. Aries sat entirely broken on the floor, his head buried deep in his knees, his broad shoulders shaking with a silent, crushing guilt that was visibly eating him alive. We were all trapped in a state of suspended animation, waiting for the verdict on our queen.
Finally, the heavy double doors of the ICU clicked open. The lead doctor stepped out, slowly pulling his surgical mask down. His face was deeply solemn, his eyes reflecting a grave, heavy shadow that made my chest tighten into a painful knot.
"Mr. Watson... Fernandez brothers," the doctor began, his voice tight and hollow. "We have stabilized her vitals and managed to arrest the primary internal bleeding, but I am not going to sugarcoat this. The physical and psychological damage is severe. The sheer, unbridled brutality of the beating she took has completely shattered her body and mind."
My jaw clenched, a dangerous muscle twitching in my cheek as I stepped out of the shadows. "Tell me everything. Do not hide a single detail from me."
The doctor let out a long, heavy sigh, looking down at his clinical clipboard. "The physical trauma is extensive. She has fractured ribs, two of which have dangerously bruised her left lung. There is a severe concussion at the back of her skull from the initial, blunt-force impact that knocked her out, along with deep tissue lacerations stretching across her back and legs. But... that is not the worst of it."
He paused, glancing uncomfortably at the protective older brothers before forcing himself to lock eyes with my dead, unblinking gaze.
"The merciless, repeated kicks to her abdomen have caused severe, deep tissue internal hemorrhaging. Her uterus has suffered catastrophic, permanent structural damage. We did everything we could in emergency surgery to repair the tearing and stop the blood loss, but the tissue is entirely non-viable for gestation. She won't be able to carry a child, Mr. Watson. The trauma to her reproductive system is absolute and permanent. She cannot be a mother."
A choked, agonizing scream tore out of Angelo's throat, a sound of pure, unadulterated heartbreak that echoed violently off the walls. He spun around and slammed his fist straight into the drywall, shattering the plaster as hot, angry tears flooded his eyes. "Those bastards! I'm going to kill them! I'll strip the flesh from their bones!"
Aries didn't even make a sound. He just stared blankly at the floor, the realization that his sister's entire future had been stolen because he left her alone on a sidewalk completely breaking whatever spirit he had left.
I stood perfectly still. I didn't scream. I didn't break a chair. But the air inside the ICU room plummeted into a sub-zero, suffocating freeze. A dark, demonic wave of unholy wrath twisted deep in my stomach, so intense it felt like liquid fire burning through my veins. They had taken her father's company. They had triggered her childhood nightmares. But this... the fact that those three cruel bastards had deliberately destroyed her body's safety, that they had ripped away her future choices, her right to ever hold a piece of our love in her arms... it shattered whatever sliver of sanity I had left.
"And that is only the beginning of the complications," the doctor continued, his voice trembling slightly under the pressure of my gaze. "Because of the severity of the abdominal trauma, she is going to suffer from chronic, debilitating physical pain for the rest of her life. Her body will never fully absorb nutrients the way it used to, meaning she will be plagued by constant physical weakness and severe fatigue. Every single menstrual cycle will trigger excruciating, agonizing cramps that will mimic the trauma of this very night."
He stepped closer, his expression deeply urgent. "But her mind is in even greater danger, Mr. Watson. Being locked in that dark basement completely ruptured her childhood trauma. Her brain is stuck in a state of severe, panicked hyper-arousal. When she regains consciousness, she is going to suffer from intense, terrifying hallucinations. She will see and hear her abusers even when they aren't there. Her mind will twist reality into a waking nightmare. If she wakes up in the dark or thinks she is isolated, the sheer panic could cause her heart to fail. Someone must stay by her side every single second. She needs to hear a safe voice constantly to anchor her back to reality."
"Go back to the estate," I commanded, my gravelly voice dropping into a dead, hollow register that chilled everyone to the bone. I slowly turned my head toward Angelo and Aries, my eyes completely pitch-black and void of any human mercy. "Take Percy, Yuri, and the rest of Section E. Watch over her father. Make sure those three bastards don't die yet. Keep them breathing until I return. I want them to feel every single broken bone, every tear, and every ounce of pain they inflicted on her."
Angelo wiped the tears from his face, his expression turning into a mask of pure, homicidal resolve. "Consider it done. They won't get a second of sleep."
Aries stood up, his eyes dead and empty. "I'll make sure they beg for death, Keifer."
As the brothers turned and marched out of the hospital wing to execute their revenge, I turned on my heel. I pushed open the heavy doors of the private ICU room and stepped inside, shutting the world out behind me.
The room was completely quiet, save for the rhythmic, dull beep of the heart monitor. Jay Jay lay in the center of the massive white bed, looking incredibly small and fragile beneath the heavy layers of blankets. A white bandage was wrapped around her head, a nasal cannula provided her with oxygen, and her pale face was covered in dark, swelling bruises.
I walked over, my heavy boots making no sound against the tiled floor. I slowly sat down on the edge of the mattress, the bed barely shifting under my weight.
How will I tell her? How am I going to look into her beautiful eyes and tell her that her body was broken beyond repair because I was too late? Because I let her out of my sight? The crushing weight of failing to protect her burned through my veins like pure acid.
But as I looked at the steady line of her heart monitor, a cold, sharp realization stabilized my racing mind.
It's okay.
I swallowed the bitter taste of my own grief, my jaw clenching into iron as I locked my eyes onto her pale face. It didn't matter. None of it mattered as long as she was still breathing. If she could never have a baby, I would spend the rest of my life ensuring she never felt an ounce of emptiness. I didn't care about a legacy or an heir Keigan and Keiren here for that ,I only cared about her soul. She was alive, she was safe, and she was still mine. That was all that mattered.
Slowly, my large, calloused hand reached out to gently slide into hers. Her fingers were freezing, shivering slightly even in her sleep. I squeezed her hand tightly, leaning down until my chest pressed against the edge of the bed.
The absolute weight of her fragility, combined with the terrifying image of her bleeding on that concrete floor, finally cracked the iron walls around my heart. A hot, stinging pressure built behind my eyes. I didn't sob. I didn't make a sound. But a single, heavy tear escaped my eyelid, tracking slowly down the sharp angle of my jaw before dropping silently onto the back of her pale, bruised knuckles.
I raised her hand, pressing my lips firmly against her freezing skin, holding onto her like a lifeline in the middle of a collapsing universe.
"I'm right here, my heart," I whispered into the quiet room, my voice a broken, desperate rasp against her skin. "I'm not going anywhere. I will be your anchor. I will be your strength. Just open your eyes for me. You are safe."
Hours crawled by like an eternity inside that sterile, white room. The rhythmic, agonizing beep… beep… beep of the heart monitor felt like a countdown to my own destruction. I hadn't moved a single millimetre from the edge of the mattress. My large hand remained completely clamped around hers, desperately trying to bleed my own warmth into her freezing, shivering skin.
Angelo had returned from the corridor, his explosive rage spent, leaving him as a hollowed-out, broken shadow leaning heavily against the windowsill. His knuckles were raw and split, his bloodshot eyes staring blankly at the floor. Aries sat rigidly in a plastic chair in the far corner, his face buried deep in his palms, his broad shoulders hitching occasionally under the suffocating, silent weight of his own guilt. Percy stood like an untouchable iron sentinel right by the heavy wooden door, his arms crossed tightly over his chest, his jaw clenched so hard the muscles in his face were violently twitching.
We were four powerful men who could control entire empires, yet in this room, we were completely helpless, trapped in a dark abyss of grief. My mind kept looping back to the doctor's venomous words. She cannot be a mother. Chronic pain. Constant weakness. Every single syllable burned through my soul like pure acid. I kept staring at the dark, swelling bruises on her face, my thumb tracing the back of her knuckles as a cold, terrifying vow solidified in my chest. I don't care about a legacy, I thought, my jaw locking into iron. I will build a fortress around her. I will spend every single second of my life making sure she never feels an ounce of emptiness. She is my heart, and as long as she breathes, it is enough.
Click.
The sharp sound of the door handle breaking the silence made all four of us snap our heads upward in a single, synchronized motion.
The lead specialist walked back into the ICU, accompanied by a senior gynecological surgeon who hadn't been there during the initial emergency shift. They weren't carrying clipboards this time they were carrying a fresh, brightly lit tablet displaying a newly rendered sequence of deep-contrast, high-resolution ultrasound streams.
Angelo didn't wait for them to speak. He snapped, taking a frantic, staggering step forward, his voice completely raw, fractured, and trembling with a brother's broken spirit. "Doctor... please. I need to know. About what you said earlier... about her being a mother. Is it really... is there really absolutely no hope for her future? Is it completely impossible?"
The senior surgeon stopped, adjusting his glasses as he looked over the fresh data, and then he looked directly at Angelo, offering a firm, reassuring nod. "Mr. Fernandez... please take a breath. We just completed a secondary, deep-tissue scan of her lower abdomen now that the acute internal hemorrhaging has been completely arrested by the emergency medication."
Aries slowly dropped his hands from his face, his eyes wide, bloodshot, and completely frantic as he held his breath.
"The initial trauma from those merciless kicks was so severe, and the massive, instantaneous swelling around her uterine wall was so extensive that it completely masked the true state of the deep tissues," the surgeon explained, turning the tablet screen toward my dead, unblinking gaze. "Our initial evaluation was based on a severely inflamed view. But now that the acute swelling is beginning to drain, the scans are crystal clear. Her uterus isn't destroyed. The deep muscle tearing is localized entirely to the outer abdominal layers, not the internal reproductive organs."
The suffocating, icy grip that had been choking my lungs for hours suddenly stuttered. I leaned forward, my pitch-black eyes boring into the surgeon's face with a lethal, terrifying intensity. "Speak clearly. Cut the medical jargon. What are you saying?"
"I am saying it is possible, Mr. Watson," the surgeon confirmed, his voice lifting with a profound sense of relief. "Her reproductive system is remarkably resilient. It is actively fighting back against the trauma. If her body heals correctly, and if she responds perfectly to the advanced regenerative muscle treatments we are initiating right now, her reproductive organs will fully recover. She will be able to carry a child. It is entirely possible for her to be a mother."
A sharp, violent jolt ran straight through my spine. A heavy, silent exhale escaped my lips, the crushing, suffocating darkness that had shattered my sanity finally cracking open to let a blinding ray of hope flood my soul. Her future wasn't stolen. Her choices were still hers to make.
Angelo let out a ragged, broken gasp, a breathless, disbelieving laugh escaping his throat as fresh tears flooded his eyes. He threw his head back against the wall, his shoulders shaking with relief. "She can... oh my God, she can still have a family."
Aries dropped his head back into his hands, but this time, he let out a long, shuddering breath, the toxic weight of his guilt lifting by a fraction of a millimeter.
"But you must understand the absolute gravity of this situation," the lead doctor interrupted, his expression turning incredibly stern as he locked eyes with me. "Her body has been pushed to its absolute physical limits. To ensure those tissues heal properly without forming permanent scar tissue, you must take care of her so gently. No stress, no sudden movements, and absolutely no emotional trauma. For the next few months, she must be protected like the rarest, most fragile glass. Any severe spike in her blood pressure or another massive panic attack could reopen the healing muscles and make the damage permanent."
"She won't even hear a loud voice in my presence," I murmured, my gravelly voice dropping into a low, absolute vibration that carried the weight of a sacred, unyielding vow.
The doctors nodded respectfully, logging the final charts into the terminal before quietly slipping back out of the room, shutting the heavy door behind them. Percy subtly stepped over to the wall panel, adjusting the dimmer switch to ensure the room was bathed in a soft, low light with no harsh shadows to frighten her when she woke.
I turned my eyes back down to Jay Jay's pale face. The white bandage around her head contrasted sharply against the swelling bruises on her jaw. I carefully raised her hand again, pressing the back of her knuckles gently against my lips, my thumb smoothing over her cold skin with absolute, desperate devotion.
"You heard them, my heart," I whispered into the quiet room, the terrifying shadow kingpin of the world completely replaced by a man pleading for his woman's return. "Your future is safe. I'm right here, and I am never letting go."
