Chapter 8 - CHAPTER-08: THE SHADOW OF THE FIRST AGE

The golden air of the Jade Groves was thick with the scent of ozone. After the reveal of his twin brother, Kanetaro felt like a man walking through a dream—or a nightmare. But Knowledge was a god of efficiency, and he gave the new pantheon no time to brood.

"Thy bodies are mended, but thy spirits are soft!" Knowledge proclaimed, his bronze monocle flashing. "If thou art to face the Eight Fingers of Kuro, thou must move as one soul. Prepare for the Divine Trials!"

1. The Gravity Well (Physicality)

Knowledge tapped his staff, and the ground beneath them turned into a heavy, violet-colored ore. Suddenly, Kanetaro felt like his blood had been replaced with lead.

"Whoa! Did someone turn up the planet's settings?" Kanetaro grunted, his knees buckling. "I feel like I'm trying to do push-ups with a mountain on my back!"

Beside him, Kaito was struggling to keep his spear upright. Even Daniel's "chill" demeanor was cracked as he crawled toward his fallen hat.

"This is the weight of thy responsibility," Knowledge chirped from a floating chair.

"Can my responsibility go on a diet?" Kanetaro wheezed, finally forcing himself to stand. "I'm pretty sure I just heard my spine complain in three different languages."

2. The Chrono-Sprint (Speed)

The gravity vanished, replaced by a maze of shimmering glass walls. Within the maze, time was fractured. Kanetaro dashed forward, only to find himself moving in slow motion like he was underwater.

"I... am... so... fast..." he droned, his voice deep and dragging.

Then, he stepped into a "Fast-Zone." In a blink, he punched a wall at Mach 2.

"OW! Okay, note to self: the universe has lag. This is like playing a video game with a bad connection, but the respawn is real life!"

3. The Elemental Chaos (Synergy)

"Teamwork is not a suggestion; it is survival!" Mother Nature roared. She began raining boulders of celestial ice from the sky.

Riya spun her new Thorned Rose Urmi, the vines lashing out to catch the boulders. "Kaito! Ignite them!"

Kaito hesitated, then thrust his Solar Flare Spear, turning the ice into steam. Kanetaro used his Sky-Katana to whip the steam into a blinding fog, allowing Daniel to pick off illusory Narasytes hidden in the mist.

"Look at us!" Kanetaro shouted, dodging a stray vine. "We're a regular circus act. If the god thing doesn't work out, we've got a bright future in the performing arts."

4. Sensory Deprivation (Intuition)

"The eyes lie," Knowledge whispered. He snapped his fingers, and a thick, magical blindfold covered their eyes.

Suddenly, Daniel began firing non-lethal moon-pellets from his Eclipse Revolvers. Kanetaro had to rely on his sixth sense—the displacement of air.

Ping! A pellet grazed his ear.

"Hey! Watch the hair, Sheriff! This armor doesn't come with a 'get out of a haircut' card!" Kanetaro started to flow, his body moving before his mind could think. He wasn't seeing the pellets; he was feeling the sky.

5. The Ego-Crusher (Willpower)

The final mode was silent. Each warrior faced a mirror made of smoke. Kanetaro saw himself back in the village, standing over the bodies he couldn't save.

"You're just an orphan playing dress-up," the smoke-Kanetaro hissed.

Kanetaro gripped his hilt. "Maybe. But the dress-up comes with a lightning sword and a team that's got my back. So, shoo. You're ruining the vibe." He slashed through the smoke, his resolve finally hardening into a diamond.

As the training concluded, the team collapsed near a fire of blue embers. Knowledge took a seat, his shadow lengthening into the shape of a gnarled tree.

"Kuro," Knowledge began, his voice a low rumble. "He was the God of Darkness. In the First Age, he was the companion to the Sky. But Kuro grew envious of the throne. He challenged the Sky God, yet it was the Sun and the Moon who stood in his path."

"Kuro did not just want to rule; he wanted to control The Omnipotent. You must understand—the Omnipotent is not a being with a face. It is pure, raw Energy. It is the frequency that hums in every atom, the light that powers the stars and the breath in your lungs."

Knowledge leaned in, his voice dropping to a whisper. "Kuro tried to track this Energy, to siphon it and become a god above gods. But his heart was discordant. He could not find the frequency of the Omnipotent because he was no longer in harmony with existence. He failed, and in his desperation, he turned to the God of Death."

"Kuro took a blessing of Yami—the Primordial Shadow—and fused with it. It gave him power, but it made him a ghost to the light. In the final battle, he was defeated and sealed within the String Temple. But Yami was too volatile to be caged with him. It was ripped away and sealed inside a silver vessel: The Sky God's Locket."

The camp went silent. Kanetaro slowly reached for the tarnished locket he'd worn since his birth—the one he thought was a cheap memento.

"This locket..." Kanetaro whispered, the metal feeling freezing cold against his palm. "It's the seal? I've been carrying the world's worst curse around my neck while eating forest berries?"

"It is the exact copy—the twin seal," Knowledge confirmed. "As long as it remains closed, Yami is bound. But Kuro's Fingers seek it. They need the shadow to rejoin the master. They do not just want to kill thee, Kanetaro. They want the key thou wearest."

Kanetaro looked at Riya, then at his brother Kaito, who was watching him with a new, protective intensity.

"Well," Kanetaro said, trying to find his wit despite the cold dread in his chest. "At least I know why I've never had good luck with jewelry. I'm not just the Sky God. I'm the universe's most dangerous locksmith.

As the fire died down to glowing embers, a strange vibration began to thrum against Kanetaro's skin—not from the locket, but from the air itself. He realized that if he was truly the Sky God, the master of the atmosphere that held all things, he shouldn't just be waiting for the enemy to strike. He needed to find the frequency Kuro couldn't.

"I'm not waiting for the Ninth or the Eighth Finger to find me," Kanetaro said, standing up as a faint, emerald-white light began to leak from his eyes. "Knowledge said the Omnipotent is energy—a hum in the atoms. If I can't find it, I'm just a guy with a fancy sword."

Before anyone could stop him, Kanetaro closed his eyes and reached out with his sixth sense, expanding his awareness past the Jade Groves, past the clouds, and into the very fabric of reality. The world around him dissolved into streaks of pure, vibrating light. With a sudden, violent pull, his soul was yanked upward, leaving the physical realm behind. He wasn't flying; he was becoming the current. He vanished in a flash of blinding white, embarking on a solo journey to the Energy's Realm, seeking the one power that could either save the heavens or burn his soul to cinders.
