"All units, prepare for battle!"
Captain-Commander Yamamoto Genryūsai Shigekuni's commanding voice thundered across the valley.
In an instant, hundreds of figures wearing black shihakushō emerged from the shadows of the ruins, taking position in mid-air and along the perimeter. Impenetrable defensive lines were established one after another across both the cracked desert earth and the open sky. With the positions of the various Captains acting as anchor points, individual Shinigami were scattered strategically throughout the sector, their knuckles whitening as they gripped the hilts of their Zanpakutō.
Their eyes scanned the perimeter with razor-sharp vigilance.
The sky above was pitch-black, illuminated by a staggering tapestry of brilliant stars. Tonight's night sky was exceptionally clear, almost as if the heavens themselves knew an apocalyptic spectacle was about to unfold on this ground. An immaculate venue had been provided for both factions in advance, the starlight acting as a natural spotlight that clearly illuminated the entire stage. A gentle desert breeze brushed past, making the dead leaves rustle as if nature were playing a somber background symphony.
In the center of the ruins, the Captains stood in a flawless, imposing line. Their white haori cloaks swayed gently in the wind.
Yamamoto tilted his head slightly, his single open eye locking onto the bizarre, masked figure standing among the elite ranks.
"Captain Kurotsuchi."
"You will operate the extraction."
"Understood... Captain-Commander," Mayuri Kurotsuchi stepped forward, his head tilting with a sickening, creaking sound as he spoke in his distinct, theatrical tone. "Though, for an operation this rudimentary, couldn't literally any lower-seat officer have handled it?"
Stepping over the scorched bedrock of former St. Fangan Village, Mayuri reached beneath his colorful robes and pulled out the ancient Contract of San Venganza that Byakuya Kuchiki had recovered. Looking up at the open night sky, Mayuri casually dug his long, yellowed fingernails into the parchment and violently ripped it in half.
RIIIP!
A torrential geyser of corrupted souls, heavily shrouded in viscous black mist, violently gushed out from the torn seal.
Thousands of ethereal specters scattered into the air, shrieking as they flew in all directions across the sky. The face of every single soul bursting from the Contract was twisted into a hideous mask of pure malice. It was painfully obvious that after being trapped inside the dark magic of the Contract for centuries, these souls had long since degenerated into feral, vengeful spirits.
In truth, the moment the villagers of St. Fangan had originally signed Mephisto's pact centuries ago, their humanity had ceased to exist. Murder, coercion, and betrayal had been their daily reality. Mephisto had deliberately manipulated the darkest desires of the villagers, successfully turning their home into a literal hell on Earth before sealing them away.
The newly liberated specters instantly felt the terrifying, crushing threat radiating from the Captains standing below. Not a single evil spirit dared to approach the center. Shrieking in terror, the black mist swarmed outward, desperately trying to flee into the surrounding countryside.
FLASH!
Just as the vanguard of specters reached the perimeter, several massive, towering walls of blinding white spiritual light erupted from the ground, locking the entire sector into an inescapable cage. Every single soul that slammed against the light was violently repelled backward.
"Everyone!" Chōjirō Sasakibe's voice echoed across the perimeter as he took operational command of the Lieutenants and lower-seat officers. "Maintain the boundary barrier at all costs! Allow absolutely no slack!"
"Yes, Lieutenant Sasakibe!" the officers shouted in unison, pouring their Reiatsu into the barrier markers. No one dared to hesitate for a single second.
Trapped within the spiritual cage, the thousands of evil spirits thrashed around frantically in the sky. Realizing they couldn't breach the barrier, their collective malice suddenly turned toward the lower-seat Shinigami maintaining the anchors on the ground below.
The swirling ocean of black mist in the sky suddenly reversed its trajectory, transforming into a massive, plunging spear aimed dead-center at the barrier line.
Right then, a delicate storm of shimmering pink petals began to dance gracefully upon the wind.
"Scatter, Senbonzakura."
Byakuya Kuchiki's cold, aristocratic voice rang out over the screaming wind.
The millions of razor-sharp blade petals floating in the air shimmered with a daunting, lethal light beneath the full moon. As the pink storm violently surged through the black mist, the corrupted evil spirits caught in the vortex were instantly sliced into microscopic fragments, their curses forcefully purified by the holy spiritual steel.
The black mist dissolved into a blinding shower of pure white light particles, cascading gently down upon the ruins of the village. The scorched, dead earth suddenly lit up with an ethereal, sacred glow as the pure spiritual energy soaked deep into the bedrock.
"Are these souls really just the remains of ordinary humans?"
"Impossible!"
"Just ordinary human souls..." a Captain murmured, watching the soil absorb the luminescent light, "...how could they possibly increase the ambient spiritual density of a coordinate by hundreds of times in a matter of seconds?"
"The intelligence we received was indeed accurate," another Captain noted, his eyes narrowing. "These souls might have once been genuine Holy Spirits or sacred catalysts... Only after being deliberately polluted by Mephisto's dark magic did they decay into what we saw today."
Standing behind Yamamoto, several Captains watched the miraculous transformation unfolding below, exchanging low-toned, highly analytical observations.
For the human souls of a single, tiny 19th-century village to possess enough latent spiritual energy to forcibly convert a mundane location into a Jūreichi (Heavy Spiritual Land) was statistically impossible. For such crucial, world-altering intelligence to fall into the Seireitei's hands so smoothly meant there was almost certainly a hidden, puppet-master hand guiding these events from the dark.
Yet, even fully aware of the potential trap, the Soul Society had executed this deployment without a second of hesitation—simply because the opportunity to anchor a permanent, high-density Jūreichi on Earth was a prize far too valuable to pass up.
"Look at the sky!"
An exclamation of utter disbelief rang out from the lower-seat Shinigami stationed on the ground below.
Whether it was the rank-and-file officers maintaining the barrier or the Captains hovering above, every single soul raised their heads, looking up toward the cosmos.
Countless, brilliant meteors were suddenly streaking across the night sky in a hyper-dense shower. The entire night sky across the northern hemisphere was illuminated as bright as mid-day, long tails of burning light piercing through the stratosphere with zero sign of slowing down.
This breathtaking, impossible phenomenon was not merely visible from San Venganza. Governments, observatories, and civilians across the entire globe stood paralyzed, staring up at the suddenly burning sky in absolute astonishment.
Inside the main NASA observation control room in Houston, Texas, every single staff member on duty was plunged into an absolute frenzy of panicked activity. Red warning lights flashed across consoles as phone lines from the Pentagon, NORAD, and the White House lit up simultaneously.
"Did the weather satellites pick up any trajectory data?!" the shift supervisor yelled, slamming his hands onto a terminal.
"There was zero atmospheric warning, sir!" an analyst shouted back, his fingers flying across his keyboard. "These meteors... they aren't physical meteorites at all! Their entry speed breaks all known laws of physics, and optical tracking can't capture a physical mass!"
Looking at the automated diagnostic reports coming in from their deep-space satellite grid, the entire staff was at a complete, agonizing loss. Every single orbital sensor was reading absolute baseline values.
According to the system hardware... everything was normal.
'How the hell is this normal?!' the analyst screamed internally, slamming his printed diagnostic report onto the steel desk.
He could already vividly imagine what would happen if he submitted an official report claiming the burning sky was "normal." He would be stripped of his clearance and blacklisted before sunrise.
'What am I supposed to do?! What am I supposed to do?!'
Just as he was on the absolute verge of a complete nervous breakdown, the heavy security doors to the observation room were forcefully pushed open. A large, formidable squad of S.H.I.E.L.D. agents clad in tactical suits swarmed into the facility, efficiently taking perimeter control of the terminals.
"Everyone, remain calm and step away from the primary servers," a calm, familiar voice announced. "S.H.I.E.L.D. is taking official jurisdiction over this event. Please cooperate fully with our team."
Agent Phil Coulson flashed his executive badge, walking straight over to the trembling analyst's desk and picking up the freshly printed diagnostic report.
"'Everything is normal'?" Coulson read aloud softly, a faint, knowing smile playing on his lips. He showed zero surprise or disbelief at the absurd printout.
If an astronomical event that completely defied the fundamental laws of human physics could be easily recorded by mundane civilian satellites, then S.H.I.E.L.D.'s classified existence wouldn't be nearly as vital as it was.
"Could you do me a favor," Coulson asked, turning to the stunned analyst with an exceptionally friendly, reassuring demeanor, "and pull up the regional high-density energy reaction logs for the North American continent over the past sixty minutes?"
"O-Okay!" the analyst stuttered, blinking in shock. "Just... just give me one second!"
Seeing that the high-ranking government agent hadn't immediately berated or arrested him over the useless report, the analyst felt a colossal weight lift off his chest. He hurriedly agreed to the request, treating Coulson as if he were a literal angel dispatched from heaven. That impossible telemetry printout had almost crushed his sanity under the immense pressure.
Coulson's calm, professional attitude allowed the analyst to rapidly regain his composure. He executed a series of rapid command overrides on his main terminal, and within two minutes, a fresh, highly detailed thermal and electromagnetic readout was printed out.
Coulson scanned the spiking graph, his eyes landing directly on the massive energy node centered over the exact coordinates of San Venganza.
'So it really is like this,' Coulson thought, his jaw clenching as he folded the paper. 'The Gods of Death didn't just purify a village... they just changed the spiritual gravity of the entire planet.'
