Ava's Pov
I didn't expect to see him again that day.
So when I stepped into the living room and saw Leon standing there, I stopped without meaning to. He wasn't sitting, just standing like he hadn't decided if he was staying or leaving, and for a second I just looked at him, trying to figure out if I even had the energy for another conversation like the one we just had.
Amanda noticed me first.
"He came back," she said.
"I can see that," I replied, my eyes still on him.
Leon didn't speak immediately. He just watched me the same way I was watching him.
"You didn't answer your phone," he said after a moment.
"I saw it."
"And?"
"I didn't feel like talking."
He nodded slightly like that made sense to him, then looked away briefly before looking back at me again.
"That's fair."
My mum shifted on the couch, glancing between both of us.
"Ava, are you going to let him stand there?" she asked.
I exhaled slowly and stepped aside.
"Sit."
