The afternoon sunlight spilled lazily onto the edge of the Forbidden Forest, where a group of students had already gathered near Hagrid's hut.
Third-year Hufflepuffs and Ravenclaws who had elective Care of Magical Creatures were chatting in small groups, looking around curiously.
Lynn arrived with his trunk, accompanied by Edgar and Ollie.
They were planning to find a good spot to set up the pot immediately after class.
"Good afternoon, Professor Hagrid," Lynn greeted him first.
Hagrid had been looking a bit sullen because Dumbledore "suggested" he shouldn't lecture on anything "slightly exciting," but as soon as he heard the word "Professor," he instantly beamed, his eyes crinkling into slits.
"Good afternoon to you too! Lynn, Edgar, and Ollie!" Hagrid looked at them. "Where's William?"
"William chose Ancient Runes and Arithmancy, so there was a schedule conflict," Edgar explained.
"He insisted we apologize to you on his behalf, saying he's very sorry he couldn't come to your class."
Hagrid waved his hands dismissively and said cheerfully, "Oh, no matter, no matter! I didn't mean anything by it. It's an elective; you should study what you like!"
He was clearly even happier because someone had thought of him.
"Alright, everyone!" Hagrid straightened up and clapped his hands. "Time to start the lesson! Follow me, and watch your step."
He led the way, and the students followed him through a small patch of grass to a relatively open and level area behind the hut.
There were some haystacks piled at the edge of the clearing, and in the most prominent position in the center sat a very sturdy-looking oak barrel.
Even from a distance, some students with keen senses of smell were already wrinkling their noses.
"Do you smell something?" a Ravenclaw girl asked, sniffing the air as she turned to her classmate.
The Hufflepuff boy beside her nodded and said uncertainly, "It seems like... alcohol? It's a bit like it, but more... pungent?"
Lynn only had to look at the barrel to know what was inside without even needing to smell it.
Edgar nudged Lynn with his elbow. "I'll bet you it's Anya in there, and Hagrid definitely used alcohol to trick her into being a teaching aid."
Ollie nodded silently from the side, indicating he would take that bet.
Lynn shook his head and said righteously, "I won't bet. I, Lynn, am irreconcilable with gambling and drugs. You shouldn't pick up such bad habits either."
Hagrid walked up to the barrel and patted its side, drawing the attention of all the students.
"Everyone, look here! Inside this is the magical creature we're going to get to know and learn about in today's class!"
Hagrid cleared his throat, unable to hide his excitement as he said:
"This is a very beautiful, rare magical creature that symbolizes purity and nobility!
They usually live deep in the forest, and adults possess powerful magic..."
After speaking, he patted the top of the barrel firmly. "Anya! Alright, stop sleeping. It's time for class. Let everyone see you!"
There was no movement from inside the barrel.
Hagrid paused, then suddenly pulled off the lid and peered inside.
At the bottom of the barrel, Anya was letting out soft snores, and a strong scent of alcohol wafted out.
She was clearly sleeping soundly.
"Anya! It's time for class! The sun is already shining on your backside!" Hagrid roared, banging on the side of the barrel with his hand.
Anya was startled awake.
Bang! Crash!
The sturdy oak barrel was smashed open by a massive force, sending wood splinters flying!
Anya shot out from the hole like a projectile.
"Leviosa!"
A precise spell hit Anya as she charged blindly forward.
Anya felt her body become light as her four hooves instantly left the ground. She floated half a meter in the air, wobbling, with nowhere to gain traction no matter how much she kicked.
"Let go of me! I'll fight you! Do you know who I am... Lynn?"
Anya struggled violently until her gaze focused on Lynn.
Anya turned her head away, experiencing a bit of a 'social death' moment.
"...Put me down."
Lynn suppressed a smile and waved his wand to lower Anya to the ground.
Hagrid breathed a sigh of relief, wiped away some cold sweat, and quickly tried to smooth things over:
"Haha, it seems Anya is a bit... overexcited today. Alright, alright, let's officially welcome—Anya, a beautiful female Unicorn!"
The rest of the class finally got back on track.
Hagrid used both words and gestures to introduce the Unicorn's habits, characteristics, and rarity in detail, as well as how to interact with them safely, emphasizing respect and maintaining distance.
The students listened with great interest, especially when they learned that Unicorn blood can sustain life but carries a curse, and that their tail hair and horns are powerful magical materials.
A few bold Hufflepuff girls raised their hands and asked, "Professor Hagrid, can we touch Anya? Just a little bit!"
Hagrid immediately shook his head like a rattle and refused sternly:
"No, no! Absolutely not!
Unicorns are only willing to let pure females they find pleasing approach and touch them, and even then, it depends on their mood at the time!
To ensure fairness in the classroom and for everyone's safety, no one can touch her today! Just look—a good look is enough!"
Anya paced elegantly to the side, occasionally glancing at the students.
As class neared its end, the students began packing up their notes while Hagrid gave his final summary.
Lynn quietly circled behind Anya and pulled a small crystal bottle sealed with a cork from his robes.
This was high-proof liquor he had brewed himself using grains grown with Abundance, combined with certain techniques; it had a strong, intense flavor.
He shook the bottle, opening the cork slightly to let a sliver of the extremely mellow and inviting aroma drift out, precisely finding its way into Anya's nostrils.
Anya's ears instantly perked up.
She cautiously glanced at the still-talking Hagrid and the other students, then gave Lynn an extremely slight nod.
The meaning was clear: Deal!
Lynn understood and quickly tucked the small crystal bottle into an inconspicuous little hollow in the grass in front of Anya so she could take it later.
At the same time, with quick eyes and hands, he reached out and snatched a clump of hair from Anya's tail—a whole bunch of shimmering tail hair was grasped in his palm, which he then nonchalantly stuffed into his robe pocket.
"Alright, that's all for today! Remember to go back and review the characteristics of the Unicorn. Next week we might study... well, we'll see next week."
Hagrid dismissed the class, and the students dispersed, still wanting more...
"Let's go, where are we setting up the hot pot?" Edgar asked excitedly as he stuffed his Monster Book into his bag.
Lynn carried his trunk and thought for a moment.
There were many places suitable for camping around Hogwarts, but it needed to have good scenery and be relatively hidden...
"Let's do it by the Black Lake," he quickly decided. "I remember a small wood behind a gentle slope near the water on the east bank. The location is good, sheltered from the wind, and has a view of the lake.
We'll set up a larger tent and cook the hot pot inside. That way, we won't have to worry even if the wind picks up or the temperature drops later."
"Great idea!" Edgar immediately agreed.
Ollie also nodded.
"William must be out of class too," Edgar pulled out his mobile phone. "I'll give him a call right now to tell him the meeting spot and have him come straight there."
As he spoke, he was already starting to dial.
"Sure, let him head straight over."
Lynn began mentally cataloging the supplies in his trunk.
Fresh vegetables, various meats and meatballs, several flavored soup bases he'd mixed himself, dipping sauces, drinks... Hmm, it seemed they were missing some dessert? Maybe he could make some on the spot.
Just then, Edgar had connected with William:
"Hello! William! You're out of class, right?... Right, right, the location is set, behind that small wood on the east bank of the Black Lake! Yes, the place where you can see that crooked-neck beech tree!... Alright, hanging up!"
Edgar briskly ended the call.
"Excellent. I'll go fishing to add something extra to our meal."
